Video: Rakim @ Highline Ballroom (8/13/09)

The R… the God Rakim may have kept us waiting more than a decade for another album, but perfection takes time, and if the god isn’t satisfied with his work, who’s to tell him otherwise? Last night, at the Highline in NYC, Ra gave us a taste of what he’s been so meticulously cooking up for his return. Earlier this summer we got to hear his first single “Holy Are You”, but on this Thursday night we were blessed with another track called “No Man Above” feat. Pudge. Watch the clip and enjoy.

After the jump, the BAWSE makes an unexpected appearance.

I can’t speak for everyone, and I don’t know how many midwestern cats you’ve had the chance to chop it up with, but niggas could care less what region the artist is from, we just expect fire music. It just so happens Ross put out one of the best albums of ‘09, and did the exact same thing with Trilla in ‘08. My niggas and I grew up on east coast hip hop, but nowadays there’s not really much coming out of that area worth checking for, it just is what it is. Too bad Max got sent up when he did, b/c he could’ve really done something as far as an NY resurgence.

street cats on the East Coast are conditioned into thinking Southern rap is better then what’s coming out from our own artists

    ^^^

therein lies the problem. most ny rappers feel they so ‘coporate hip-hop savvy’ that they dilute the real and inject the weak composite.

    conditioning and conforming. smh.

^ Sadly, I liked them ninjas nh lol. But they ate up Arista’s budget with all them Pharrell beats and didn’t recoup when that album flopped.

I know Marlon Wayans had a good laugh.

you’re a joke like Marlon Wayans, lame, and ain’t got no change

Whatever happened to Nas’ “Unauthorized Biography of KRS-one”- it was supposed to be the follow up to “UBR”…LOL @ the end of that jawn…”then he dropped…um…the Master or something like that”…..Rakim might have lost a step, but damn, his 1987-92 momentum is still carrying him, which speaks volumes about how dope he was….really, I even fucked with that 18th letter album…

Max gave Jim the illest intros…wrote the verses & the hooks…shoulda saved them shits for himself
    =====================================================================
Jim woulda never allowed Max to blow. Stacks woulda been the golden boy of ByrdGang. Max was the hookman & Jimmy’s ghostwriter.

“Drop That Top” was Max’s 1st ByrdGang records single. He was ready but got no push.

Apparently, he wasn’t getting any money either. If Jim woulda kept him right, Max wouldn’t have needed to rob anyone.

I take that back, Max is a street nigga. He woulda took that opportunity to make that extra bread whether he had money or not.

Harlem niggas be getting it by any means.

Obama gets 30 death threats every day, according to Ron Kessler, who recently wrote a book about the Secret Service. That’s a four-fold increase over the number that George W. Bush—the most reviled president in modern history—received. Secret Service resources are stretched thin, and every threat has to be investigated not matter how harmless.

He’s in the Fabolous boat. I doubt he’ll ever live up to his potential.

He has a better chance of making a classic with Sheek & Styles then by himself.
