Rik Cordero’s Inside A Change Wins Best Picture Award 2009 at the HBO Latino Film Festival

iac-premiere

A big congratulations is in order to a friend of the site, Rik Cordero & Three/21 Media, for bringing home the Top Prize at the HBO NYILFF:

Rik Cordero’s coming of age drama Inside A Change won the 10th HBO New York International Latino Film Festival’s (NYILFF) Best Picture Award as the event drew to a close over the weekend. Lead Actor, Ephraim Benton, who accepted on behalf of Rik Cordero, was presented with prize money provided by HBO and the Best Picture trophy.

“I’m shocked that we won, considering all of the amazing films on the roster this year.” said Cordero. “We created a simple heartfelt picture about the importance of family and I think it’s something audiences strongly connect with during these tough economic times. Even if you strip away all the heavy grassroots promotion we did, the film follows the same basic principle: Tell a good story”.

Three/21 Films thanks HBO, the New York International Latino Film Festival and congratulates the entire cast and crew of Inside A Change for winning the Best Picture Award. For more information about the festival award winners please visit here.

I can care less if you think I’m hating cause I rap, I would love to think that you’re the nicest nigga on earth, that would make me happier than not being impressed after downloading

    *no shots*

^eh, it’s definently not me thinking your hating, it’s just natural, since you being a rapper, your gonna instantly compare your work against mine, no jokes or anything, but I know these things, that’s why I never gave a second thought on sending you the mixtape period, no shots, but I know these things, trust me, I did the same thing you did.

I mean I don’t even know how to judge rap music anymore

This is just whatever, I don’t know

    I wouldn’t sign you

^that’s a good way to put it. every block has like 5-7 “hood rappers” who rap in a closet with acid pro and fruity loops talking about stories they never lived that will never get signed cuz they’re a dime a dozen (/end of run-on sentence).

no shots at joe I’m still DLing your tape as we speak to listen to it

  34. I Fux Says:

Marbury’s final moment in the book is one of the most heart-breaking in the text proper. Marbury’s father, Don, confronts Frey and asks him how much the Marbury family should expect to be paid for the right to put Stephon in the book. When Frey answers that it would be against regulations, the elder Marbury furiously cuts off Frey’s access to Stephon, saying he’s just making another excuse to make money off of his son without having to give anything himself.

The moment is devastating not just because of the audacity of Mr. Marbury, but because the book provides more than a few examples that his worldview is the correct one. Tchaka Shipp, the most heavily-recruited of the three profiled seniors, was constantly promised the world by coaches unwilling to deliver it. He eventually signed with P.J. Carlesimo of Seton Hall behind a promise of playing time; after being buried on the end of the bench for two years, Tchaka transferred to UC Irvine. Before the season started, he was in a car crash which ended his basketball career. P.J.’s last documented job was as the Head Coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder; at the time of the afterword to The Last Shot, Tchaka was doing pipe fitting work for $8.50 an hour.

“Russell Thomas” (his name was changed for the book), the team’s starting shooting guard, on-floor leader, and go-to guy in the clutch during the team’s PSAL championship run, was all set to go to UC Irvine on scholarship because of his finely honed shooting stroke and tenacious defense, but was declined entry when he failed to make the requisite 700 on his SATs. Despite becoming one of the most prolific scorers in junior college history and eventually getting his degree, Russell ultimately ended up being the book’s purest incarnation of tragedy.

After basketball, Russell was involved in a domestic violence incident with his wife, attempted to find God, attended church regularly, and even made a run at becoming a preacher of some sort before eventually living alone and homeless on the streets of California. At 26, he was hit by an Amtrak train, which killed him instantly. Many believe he threw himself in front of it.

for most of the movie clive was on his harrison Ford dude survivin in extreme situations steez.

well you saw how it played out. after old Russian guy broke it down to him, dude felt like he had no other choice or options. then the way that last scene played out was ill, because it was like: even if you kill this one nigga, it’s not gonna matter because the shit will still continue. so is it worth it to risk your future to murk this one dude as a symbolic gesture? then he ends up not having to…

  119. eskay Says:

also, that’s not the kind of ending that I would neccesarily call a crowd pleaser. in your typical hollywood popcorn movie, the whole bank would have been brought down by the government, all the evil execs would’ve got murked and everyone would’ve lived happily ever after.

  120. Apollo Says:

So while Shyne’s October 6th date to be released from prison is set, tomorrow is the day that he will learn if he will be paroled to post release conditions that will allow him to easily resume his recording career, or parameters that might prevent him from performing all of the duties necessary of a nationally-known recording artist.

“[We’re] trying to say [to the judge] ‘Enough is enough. Five years [post release supervision] is overly harsh and unnecessary,’” Michelen explained. “What I said in court on the 21st and I’ll say again [tomorrow] is the court needs to take into consideration how a person needs to make a living. And that punishing someone to five years post release supervision hampers people differently [based on] the way they’re going to make money…”

If Shyne is sentenced tomorrow to the full five-year parole term, he might not be able to leave the State of New York to tour, and would have to get approval to conduct almost every aspect of his activities as an artist.

“He’d need permission for everything,” Michelen explained. “And so that would really be a problem and be very restrictive on him.”

clive’s character. its been awhile since i seen it to be honest. but i just remember thinking the plot went south once the old man, who’d been sinister and loyal to the bankers all these years, just up and decided to confess and help Clive, who was then able to get close enough to this big dog to have a chance to murk him.

but it was a good flick all in all. and the twist at the end was definitely strong.
