Video+Audio: Raekwon @ Noisemakers

Good times were had at the 92nd Street Y last night. Rae told some great stories and gave some amazing insight into the Clan and one of the greatest albums of all time. The highlight for me would have to be when he broke down the shortlived beef between Wu and Biggie. One of the biggest and most dissapointing revelations of the night, was when Rae confirmed that Nas’ lazy ass didn’t submit a verse for OB4CL2 on time. Really Gnozir? I guess you were too busy wrecking your marriage. Rae made a point of letting us know that he wanted a Nas verse on the album, not just because it’s Nas, but because that’s what the fans want. He understands how important that shit is to us and how badly we want them to at least take a shot at recapturing the crack that was “Verbal Intercourse”. But nah, right? Gnoz had better things to do. That guy is on my shit list until further notice.

    Tongue-in-cheek
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Search Wiktionary Look up tongue-in-cheek in Wiktionary, the free dictionary.

Tongue-in-cheek is a term used to refer to humor in which a statement, or an entire fictional work, is not meant to be taken seriously, but its sarcasm is subtle. The origin of its usage comes from when Spanish minstrels would perform for various dukes in the 18th century; these dukes would silently chastise the silliness of the minstrel’s performances by placing their tongue firmly to the side of their cheek. The Oxford English Dictionary defines it as “Ironic, slyly humorous; not meant to be taken seriously”.

nah, I do though. I think he’s scarred of himself, that he won’t live up to his verse on the original. which is understandable, but no excuse.

  110. Rockabye Says:

oh no, I understood the verse perfectly, and it was dope, but Jay bodied him.

    Jay’s Black Repub verse > Gnozir’s

It aint like they are actually best friends. & it was kind of true. You can’t be mad at the truth. & how is it a shot at him?

I thought the best shots were based on truth.. *shrugs*

A shot is still a shot, whether he cared or not.

that’s not the point, he could have at least gave it a shot. there’s no excuse for that kind of laziness. I think Gnoz was scurred
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I’ve never seen you so up in arms about a verse not happening, let alone a Nas one. Even a Jay-Z track doesn’t get you this emotional lol

Also who’s to say he didn’t try to get the verse done on top of the other things he had to do? The Marley album isn’t even finished either. He seems to have a lot things on his plate and is dealing with one thing at a time.

Word. It overtook Big vs. Pac a little while ago.

  119. Iceberg Slimm AKA The Gold Medalist Says:

The whole hype behind OB4CL2 is just the title. He threw a remake or 2 in there to emphasize the point but we all know if he woulda came out with a new album with a brand new title it woulda got that Immobilarity (sp?) or Lex Diamond treatment. Im not doubtin it’ll be a nice cd but even Rae knows it wont be half as good as the original

Most of the time, but I meant that they were enemies & they became friends (sort of)

so how is that a shot. Its just a fact.

A shot is something like “that’s a one hot album every 10 year average.”

    LOL

  122. Joe 88 Says:

  127. Big_seth aka Waffle Iron$ Says:

OB4CL2 should be good in comparison to most of the Newer Wu albums.

maybe not the original. The intent seems to be on getting the Wu relevant again, not actually topping the other album. Besides Ghost, none of them have had any success for a while.

He probably thinks that getting the old fans hyped can lead to more Wu love all around… pause.

  128. Rockabye Says:

  131. Eighty's Baby Says:

Nas got bodied by EVERYBODY on “John Blaze”.

I’d also argue that besides the line Mega claimed he gave him (life’s a bitch but god forbid…), he also spit the weakest verse on Affirmative Action, it was still dope tho.

    ^^^^^^^

Are you serious? Nas verse on John Blaze set the shit off

My stripes show like regiments, military intelligence

Go ask my pre-school, even talk to my old principal
He’d tell you how you I used to pack a No. 2 pencil

In the school staircase, cuttin class, passin my reefer
In my own class, operation return, they tried to say

And although some might use the production credits as reason to get hype, just remember Busta Rhymes has been using the same type of prodcuers on his last few albums (Dilla, RZA, Dre) and no one’s gotten excited over him.

Nas didn’t get bodied on John Blaze.

In fact, that’s been one of my arguments as to why that track should be in the top 10 of greatest posse cuts ever and in the top 5 for most underrated tracks ever.

If you think about it, no one really came weak on that record. Even Joe was decent on it.
The only weak shit was Mack 10 showing up in the video as a Garbage Man and I call that typecasting….
