  19. rex hussla Says:

Former two-division world champion Vernon Forrest was shot and killed Saturday night during an attempted carjacking, promoter Gary Shaw said.

“It’s 100 percent confirmed. He’s dead,” said Shaw, who had two stints as Forrest’s promoter. “I will say this about him — he was a decent human being. His work with kids, I think people knew how much he cared for kids, underprivileged and mentally challenged people. He was a real decent human being outside the ropes.”

WSB Radio in Atlanta first reported the shooting, citing a police spokesman. Forrest, who was 38, was an Atlanta native. He was shot seven or eight times as he chased at least two men who had tried to steal his Jaguar as he put air in his tires at an Atlanta gas station, Lt. Keith Meadows said, according to the radio station.

But Forrest had a gun and confronted the men, police said.

“The victim and suspect became involved in a brief foot chase,” Meadows said. “At some point, gunfire was exchanged between the two of them. The victim was shot at least once in the head.”

…. listen I’m not defending Game’s antics, but if you don’t want to talk about someone a good way to go about it is to well not talk about them, Jay knew what he was doing when he said that shit, he knew how people would respond, and thats the thing I would love to hear hov rapping like hov, but he constantly disappoints now and it is frustrating cause of course I’m gonna listen of GP, but it is always a let down ….

I don’t know how to stan that hard…

… it has nothing to do with budden, it has to do with him making sub par music, Jay cut joe off a long time ago, I still bumped jay heavy even rocked with kingdom come even though that was pretty disappointing now that I look back at it, but a.g. and the shit he has been releasing since then is just not that good, the only verse he killed in years was maybach music, he killed that shit ….

… not for someone that you expect to kill verses, thats what I expect from jay and I’ll agree with your general statement for a commercial point of view, but I’m a lyrics head I want to hear rappers kill their verses, but thats just me. I think the last 2 songs jay dropped was dope, now it’s the songs he was dropping last year I didn’t like, like “jocking jay-z” no one talks about that no more cause it was trash, and the “Aint I” song timberland did, waaaaaaaaaack, I was expecting things to get worse, but “DOA” and “run this town” is that piff. You can’t expect a veteran to play like he’s still at his pinnacle, but a back to back 40+ point night is still a back to back 40 point night, ask jordan, either in a bulls jersey or a wizards jersey

  94. sol fraze Says:

The problem is that it seems like Jay-Z (in particular, but a lot of rappers in general) can’t rap well about much other than moving dope. Thats the contrast between Kingdom Come and American Gangster. Coke rap Hov is more convincing than post-Coke rap Hov. It’s the same thing with brothers Thornton, if there was a nationwide crack rap ban, I doubt Til the Casket drops would be anything worth checking for. Or at leasts that’s the impression rappers are starting to give. I know Jay is deeper than that, but he’s not doing a very good job of proving it.

I think it’s about time Hov drops the “no pen” schtick at starts actually crafting his verses. The stuff he’s done recently, it’s pretty obvious he’s not writing much, and its not a good look.

    Jay-Z of RD/Blueprint/Black Album >>> future Jay-Z (hopefully) w/ pen >>> Jay-Z currently “not writing down” mediocrity

  95. sol fraze Says:

Hov is starting to set a bad example for rap cats as far as what is expected lyrically from MCs. He’s still THE JAY-Z, no matter how wack a verse he drops, but he is starting to tarnish his legacy. Jay-Z used to raise the bar as far as what dope lyrics were, at least in the mainstream (hell he WAS the bar)…. and now he’s passing that responsibility to Wayne and Kanye…. smh.

  96. Joe 88 Says:

Maybe we’re not listening to the same songs, “DOA” & “Run this town” is hot fiya, and I was the main nigga down playing jay-z latest music (c) “jockin jay-z, but the last 2 songs released was great. Maybe he’s not in his prime, but he isn’t below his standard either.

I LIKE the songs as well. They are good SONGS. I’m talking about the quality of Jay-Z’s verses. He is spitting very little compelling material, and this is disappointing when the Hov of a different era had gems in EVERY LINE. Nowadays its like we’re lucky if theres one gem in the whole verse, or even the whole song. Nobody wants to see that from Hov. Nobody wants to see the legend HOVA get outshined (not murked but definitely shown up) by Kanye who was never really THAT good of a rapper before this year, lol.I’m starting to feel like I could jump on a track and give Jay a run for his money. That’s when he stops being the legendary, untouchable Jay-Z, and starts being just some old dude who is decent on the mic.

If there is ever a day where it is “irrelevant” for an EMCEE to kill verses, that is the day when hip hop truly has died. I respect Hov for making incredible songs. But I can’t respect him as an MC if this is what he is content with putting down when he gets on the mic. If he wants to be considered just an “urban songwriter” thats cool with me and I will stop expecting lyricism. But as long as dude is still calling himself the “God MC” I’m gonna be expecting heavenly verses, ya digg?

  137. sol fraze Says:

That’s the only logical explanation I can come up with for Jay doing what he is doing right now. I don’t really think that Hov can’t tell a good verse from a bad one, as mentioned before. I don’t think Hov is INCAPABLE of writing good verses, because every now and again he will drop something good. How else would you explain Hov’s inconsistency despite his talent. Either he is so blind/egotistical that he can’t evaluate the quality of his own work (there is definitely a case for this), or he is just being lazy and dropping corny/wack rhymes because he wants to be one take Hov/MC No Penz, and that happens to be the b.s. that came out.

I personally am pretty sure HOV knows that his verses on Run This Town we’re anything spectacular. “All black everything…. all black everything” is almost Mike Jones territory. Hov knows better.

Me not giving a fuck about spelling >>> You being anally retentive about something that isn’t important when you understand what I’m saying >>> mattress > matress >>>>>>> Spelling beef

  138. why? Says:

Before 2004 HOV was at his best and you can say he was one of the top 5. After that retirement b.s he just got dull yet still had some hits but after ’04 he can still be considered in the top 10 but not in top 5. Right now the dude is getting at that point where ok he is just getting old and I think after BP3 he will realize he’s gotta get into that head honcho status, keep on mentoring rappers he thinks has potential, and step away from rapping for some time but still do everything else that makes him successful. Dude is living good right now and should just officially settle down. If he keeps on releasing albums people will really start to get bored of Jay and will forget about his greatness until he does something in the future that will have people talking about him and who knows how long that would take. That live nation contract crap is ridiculous.

After 808’s Yeezy definitely proved he is a good rapper which he always was. If people weren’t ignorant fucks they would be able to see that he is one of the best in the game today and they gotta realize this dude will most likely surpass big brother someday really soon (5th album) if Jay continues to release songs like the ones after 2004. Maybe Jay might just pass the torch very soon anyways.

Rihanna’s voice ain’t that bad. People just hating cuz her shit is what 15 year old kiss fm listeners spazz over. It ain’t her voice that makes the song ok it’s just everything excluding Kanye. Anybody notice how Kanye’s verses on other artists songs lately are better than their own? Run this town is ok but not great.

but if Nas ain’t on the level of hova, a gold album iz enough, even great nowadays… sorry but it’s a fact, nas ain’t a mogul so please
cuz if Jigga i$ on the top of the world $orry but just platinium ain’t as great as his Mogulness and hundreds millions deals, watch the order
Lil Wayne, Kanye, T.i and Eminem, Fiddy and after jigga’s sells…
