I’m talking about life, and all I hear is “he keep talking about crack”/People keep talking bout Hov take it back/I’m doing better than before, why would I do that

I’m talking about progress, I ain’t looking back/I just run the track, try not to get lapped/People keep talking about Hov left them flat/Trying to rewrite history, lets talk about facts/Dame made millions, even Jaz made some scraps/He could have made more but he ain’t sign his contract/As far as street guys, too submersed in the crack /Thats how the game goes, I don’t owe nobody jack/Am I wrong if I don’t want nyggaz to sit up on my lap/Cause I don’t have a beard and Santa Claus ain’t black

    WOW!

ok so first of hov is that dude. while i don’t agree w/all of his business moves, as an emcee he

    1. moves the crowd
    2. makes cream
    3. (which could be viewed as 1) he’s the master of ceremonies. and that embodies a wide spectrum depending on who’s attending said ceremony (i.e. Glastonbury, seeing conditions in Africa)

and as a fan of the culture, even as disposable as some of the less celebrated purveyors of the culture make it to be…..i can’t be mad at that.

so him addressing niggas now @ his current level whether to boost his sales or just to be doing it gets my approval cuz if anything it re-energizes the culture as a whole. you’d be remiss to argue that cuz he’s damn near forty and still setting the standard for it. if you can put someone up against him that is lemme know. i’d like to know who that is myself, and don’t mention anyone who’s affiliated w/him cuz thas just a win for hov and his influence on the culture.

i remember when hip-hop started to shift from its afro-centric sensibilities to hardcore rap and purist cried foul. fats forward a lil bit and common sense made a remark about it in ‘i used to love h.e.r.’ and people on both sides of the fence took to it like butter on bread. then doper music came from that. nowadays that its mostly business people don’t care about reflecting on the culture anymore. the substance is of minimal standards and the vibe is wyle tepid. shit like this gets people talking and creating just for the fact that the illest to ever done it has years of wisdom which he can both impart and not take to serious @ the same time. thas HIP HOP.

and in hovs case, as has been proven countless times, that shits a lay-up.

it’s not that serious homie, it’s just MY dose of hip-hop understanding.

  11. Darth Cipher Says:

Kev dropping the real… the point is, Hov can do it, period… he’s got that kind of respect where he can do it, whether you approve or not, he can and will and does do it, because it’s more then just a couple lines for shock value, it’s the deep roots that we’ve all seen it spring from… this shit is GOOD for hip hop, Jay has always been good for hip hop with whatever moves he makes, it’s always been forward progress, it’s always been big, in your face, chess moves that get people talking… whther you agree or disagree, which is what’s happening now, he can do it
