Video: Curtis Explains His Process With Timbaland

via MTV

Well, it’s not really cheating when you have producers such as Dr. Dre, Timbaland and Polow Da Don working on your album. Fif is stacking the deck for his current incarnation of Before I Self Destruct. Fif is on his third different production of the album, and he said the third time’s the charm.

“I feel like my album is as close to perfect as it’s gonna get,” 50 told MTV News last week. “I’m reaching the point to where if I have to continue to write it, I’ll be overkilling it. That’s why I gave myself other writing assignments, like the War Angel [mixtape], like the ’90s [tape] Sincerely Southside Part 2 and our actual G-Unit mixtape I’m doing with [Lloyd] Banks and [Tony] Yayo.”

Fif said reconnecting with Timbaland for Before I Self Destruct has been a unique experience. “When me and Timbaland go in, a lot of times it’s a compromise,” Fif said. “He’s doing things that’s a little different production-wise from what I would usually do. Like ‘Ayo Technology’ — you never heard me rap with that cadence. That beat was actually for Justin [Timberlake]. It was golden, some sh– he had on the side, and he gave it to me. I went and did it. Justin laid the hook to it.”

Timbo will go in the studio and mumble a melody and tell Fif to pen lyrics with that flow, which 50 said is easy for him. “I could put lyrics to any melody,” the G-Unit General said. “I can write a rap song, I can write an R&B song, I can write whatever type of song. If you put a note on it where I can hear it, man, I can write that. We did that, and that’s how I came up with that new cadence for ‘Ayo Technology.’ We did that a couple of times while we was on there working [on Before I Self Destruct]. It’s fun that way to have him participate with me.

“Even if you ain’t got the words,” 50 added. “You’re up there, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.’ Tim will be like, ‘I can’t believe that. He was able to make everything I just made a noise into a real cadence.’ I seen him take pens or pencils into a cup and put it into a shaker. I’m sure nobody else has shaker sounds like that. … I seen some interesting things from Timbaland.”

Polow also worked on the new album, but he had music prepared for 50 before the MC came to the studio. Before I Self Destruct drops in September.

This is the place I think I am probably going to end up buying. $180,000 for a 2004 3 level, 3 bedroom, 3.5 bathroom with balcony deck, 1 car garage townhouse. Dont ask me about the color of the walls, I am going to re-paint them and add hardwood floors since I like hardwood.

    ^^^
smh, that same townhouse in jersey is $310,000.

^ Yea thats how much its worth. Places here are dirt cheap now. Its crazy

Donovan McNabb is mad overrated … he was only an elite QB when he had an elite receiver (T.O.)

meanwhile Favre done went to (and won) Super Bowls and Conference Championship games with random niggas like Robert Brooks and Donald Driver and Antonio Freeman … and pedophile Mark Chmura …

niggiz forget how the Jets was playing for home field advantage until Favre’s bicep tore up …

^^^Yeah Todd Pinkston, James Thrash, and Freddie “I’d like 2 thank my hands” Mitchell were definitely the best receiving corp of this decade. I think Mcnabb is underrated, everything he has been able to do with a rotating cast of bum ass niggas (minus TO) is remarkable.

You will be on the road and you’ll all of a sudden see houses. There’s like 10 houses on that block for sale, all bank owned. Its in a white community so its safe

I’ll give u that. That type of bitch shit will never be forgotten. Still, i remember the years prior to the Reid/Mcnabb era and any Philly fan who wants either of them niggas to leave is trippin.

  24. The Shot Clock aka servin through my burglar bars Says:

Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg will sentence Brown to five years of probation and 180 days of community service, in the form of labor. While some will complain that he got off with “only” probation, the disposition in this case is harsher than my 30 years of prosecuting batterers had me betting it would be. In the average first arrest of a 20-year-old man with no criminal history and visible means of support—forget R&B star status—most cases are reduced to misdemeanors with a probation period of less than one year.

  25. Joe 88 Says:

Dre I thought you was gonna stop calling 50 curtis?

    War Angel is good music

  26. ( o )( o ) Says:

where is this “Perfect Life” lp?

^ I was asking the same thing. Havent heard much about it. I read this earlier tho over at the rumors in AHH:

Well, like many people, I was looking for Charles Hamilton’s album drop yesterday. It did not, unless you have some nefarious inside connection. Anyway. Where is he? I’ve gotten several email asking this question. Well, I heard he has been hiding in Detroit, where people are least likely to find him! AHA! Terrible joke and no that’s not it. I head CH is – quite simply – laying low. He’s given up on twitter from what I understand and has pushed back his CD indefinitely. So, that’s all I know. I have been told if you can find MC Lyte…you may be able to find Charles Hamilton.

  27. CiCi The Intern Says:

  29. TheCo!!inB Says:

McNabb’s problem is that he doesn’t have a inners mentality. skill set aside you can see he doesn’t have that drive it takes.

  30. London Bloke Says:

    ^

The Hamiltonization Process was the child of the Papooseization process…

    where is this “nacirema Dream?”

London Bloke Bet: They find Amelia Earhart alive before the “nacirema Dream?”

^it got pushed back because he added Pax, BIG, Proof and Jimmy Hoffa as exec producers. He knows all their families.

  32. R.J.Orion Says:

    Randall Cunningham’s 1 year in Minneapolis > Randall’s career in Philly …

he should have gotten a ring … (15 – 1) … set all kinds of single season records at the time …

fuckin Gary Anderson misses a 37 yard field goal (at home in a dome) to lose the NFC Championship game … and he hadnt missed NO KICKS all year …

i still get a little sick when i recall that game …

Yeah. I know stockton (none). I grew up in Sacramento.

My sister got a house in Sac that was worth 500,000 & now its worth less that 250,000.

CA is doing horribly, but it might be a good time to buy for cheap.

  36. Sir Fakely Deep Says:

what he said about rappers trying to dress and act like the audience they’re TRYING to attract was a perfect point. 50 knows what he’s talking about.
