i respect the way you said that Es.

Would anyone agree that Monch is a better musician then? Desire was a musical masterpiece with sprinkles of legendary raps on it.

rap never was or never will be ALL ABOUT LYRICS, when ya’ll realize this you’ll understand that your opinions was bias & out right crazy

I love to hear crazy insane lyrics, but there’s more to rap than just metaphors & big words bunched into a 16, as far as putting words together canibus >

but he isnt a top 100 rapper

  13. Joe 88 Says:

^Real talk dawg, NIGGAS BEEN SAYING THAT THE WHOLE TIME

    Joe,

I’ve been preaching this to the nah choir for the past 2 or 3 years, and they don’t wanna see the light…..I’ve came up with mad arguments and theories but people believe what they want to believe.

I’ve centered the argument to a suitable form in lyrical language that they would understand, but the people here just don’t get it.

Lyrics is not a trump card…Nahright followers only think there is one way of rapping…hence why pharaohe monch is a statue or memorial for what they believe in.

  21. eskay Says:

    >>what does Jay do/have better than P. Monch? Swag?? lol. but really.

he makes songs that transcend a small group of lyrically minded fans.

I kid Boosie, but what he’s saying is true to an extent.

Monch could never rock an arena.

does that mean he’s not a great rapper?

of course not, but it means Jay is an all around better rapper.

  22. PW Says:

  28. eskay Says:

Kanye is a good example of lyrics not being the end all be all. when he dropped College Dropout, I didn’t respect him at all, and I refused to listen to the album. but then I did and I was blown away. because Ye is far from the best lyricist (although he’s gotten way better since), but he understands what it takes to make amazing music. what he lacked in lyricism, he made up for with dope beats and choruses and concepts.

Everything you named as in flow, voice, delievery, nuance mannerisms of rapping, voice inflection, breath control, and YES SWAG….Pharoah monch makes music for a small group of book club members that wear scarves and chucks with square glasses, who profess to knock niggas out and get rowdy…

Stop saying your favorite rappers are better then the best rappers just be different…its sickening

    >you don’t think so? I think Bis is Top 100.

^You also think nautica is hot, shows alot about your opinion, lol j/k but forreal, I couldn’t put canny in a top 100 because his body of work to me isnt very impressive, when I think about some of the shit I like about his music I always think about a few freestyles, his DMX vs canibus mixtape, & that’s where it ends, no one wants to hear about how nice you are in every rap. He has no versatility

    >>only bammers like Boosie and Joe88 continuously insist “it’s not all about lyrics”

^It never has been all about lyrics, rakim will blow rev run out the water lyrically, but when it’s all said & done, Run DMC will be ranked higher because of the people they touched thru there music, and that’s what rap is all about, reaching the listener, we can rap about the same thing, you say it in a lyrical way I say it in a way that everyone can understand it & guess who’s the better rapper?

Like Boosie said ya’ll use being lyrical as a trump card, but truth is, no one cares about how neat the present was wrapped if what’s inside the box is bullshit, you can razzle dazzle a few with words, but if your not saying shit, your a bum with a educated mouth (pause) (c) Omillio sparks

^^^see, esk, I disagree. I felt like that was his best album lyrically, Late Reg was his best album production-wise. (but everybody loves Graduation, so I don’t really get it)

  52. Boosie Says:

Do people realize that most of the worlds music is centered around some sort of dance culture?

When did it become not cool to dance? Only in hip-hop has this school of thought been exported through the minds of the pseudo-intellect. They stopped dancing because it was seen as a ritual for the white man, when in actually thats what we do…

ALL African music is dance music
Latin american music is dance music
Arabs hop and skip to bollywood beats..

Only the people who “escaped” from the shackles of the south, determined it was not cool to dance with accompanied music and instrumentals….

South ALWAYS had a history of chants and dance culture…while the northerners displayed a form of decorum and civility with “intellectuality in their music…

There is no coincidence why there are different types of music….Read history and understand it and you’ll be enlightened

  53. A tribe called quest aka The Luke Perry of Nah Right Says:

There is a hip-hop lyrics myth going on…People scream lyrics lyrics…but in reality their musical choices are not even lyrical, or its a smokescreen for what they really believe in.

Yes but in all reality….from the islands to west africa and throughout all parts….this is what we do…we dance…how many african documentaries where you seen that white dude or broad in cargo shorts and hiking boots sitting on a tree stump watching 10 year old girls jitter and jook around a fire pit?

why are people so embarrassed by dance songs? how is a dance song cooning?

But isnt the whole continent of Africa cooning when they jump around a snake in the fire with their face painted up?
