eskay gets quoted at wall street journal.com’s article on asher roth:

“One of the first outlets to spotlight Mr. Roth was Nah Right, an influential hip-hop blog. Founder Ashmi Rawlins, who goes by Eskay, says it was Mr. Roth’s name that first piqued his attention. He sampled YouTube videos of Mr. Roth freestyle rapping and “was pleasantly surprised,” he says, citing the unconventional content and flow of Mr. Roth’s lyrics.”

funny, a hip-hop blog is only “influential” to the rather anglo WSJ when it bigs up a white rapper. LOL.

    no shots at the WSJ

    well, maybe one shot.

    or a fusillade.

LOL @ asher thinking accepting white rappers “can make hip-hop global” (he might have missed the fact that black people made hip-hop global on their own merits).

“As he continues his bid for credibility in rap, Mr. Roth has warmed up to discussing the role of race in the genre. “If we can start in hip-hop and accept people for who they are and what they’re talking about rather than the color of their skin, we can turn it into a global thing,” he says, adding, “Hip-hop is a beautiful place for asking more questions.”
