  9. Rockabye Says:

yea, drake definetely went in on that. im feelin this asher roth track too. Ultimately i think Drake will outsell Ashers album. I think Ashers is gonna go gold though.

    ^

Drake could go gold in a week with some BET/MTV promo and a video with Wayne. He’s an album artist, too, so long as he doesn’t go too deep into the R&B noodling that sunk So Far Gone at times.

Asher’s going gold eventually. Dude can spit.

this song is dope and very necessary. He had to address the elephant in the room sooner or later.

But here’s the thing: He is and isn’t Em. And that’s the point of the song.

Anyone who’s around that age (I’m 19, Ash is what, 21?) is going to have had one of their first experiences with hip-hop be one with Em. And that’s not a bad thing: Technically, Em’s a great rapper.

Ash just so happens to be in his lane lyrically (rhyme schemes and source material), thematically (I don’t give an eff lyrics, though from a college kid), and sonically (their voices, we all know, are virtually identical).

So he’s got to defend himself against the comparison and stand on his own two. If you view Ash only through the prism of Marshall, you’ll never like him, I promise. But step out of that and look around a little.

As I said, dude can spit.

Also, If ashers only problem is being compared to EM… Eminem of all rappers.. than he has nothing to worry about. Gorrilla blacks problem was being a Biggie clone and a horrible rapper. Thats practically a sin

*Remembers Flex chewing out Gorilla black on air, shit was hilarious*

…Yeah… But ummm… No… Carbon copies ain’t never been cool. If 5 yrs from now a dread head thats overly tatted, kisses men & raps like he thinks he’s from mars, hits the internet hard (nhjic) ,his faggot ass won’t deserve a pass either.

    Bottom Line…

If Asher is becoming like Mickey Factz all he’s doing is becoming a entrepreneur, releasing good music and playing great live shows..

Carbon copy? Go listen to a few Asher songs. The difference between being the Oxycontin addict from 8 Mile and the suburban kid from wherever the hell Asher’s from is significant.

Ash mocks Jay-Z on a song, too. That takes stones Em ain’t got.

  24. FaMs! Says:

White boys in rap is like Black guys in a preppy White party

….admit one, and Em is back for a minute.

    Harsh reality tho’

“hey, here’s a concept that works / 20million other white rappers emerge
it would be too many fish in the sea/ but still fill empty without me

I’ve heard his songs. I’m not 1 of these niggas that just hates for no reason. Asher Roth is not entertaing IMO period, point, blank. Just a corny white boy with big dreams. Mocks Jay? All that “please somebody pay attention to me” shit dosen’t even deserve a comment.

fishsticks joke >>>> asher roths existence

    entertainment wise

  28. jrp14 Says:

He didnt really diss jay, just said he made a mistake by not taking him…which he did, seeing that Asher has one of the most popular songs in the country, and I have no clue wtf a pittsburgh slim is…..and em and asher are about as similar as jay electronica and mf doom

  29. S.S.BlockBurner Says:

Asher can keep the most famous ppl in his mouth but being a nobody while doing so ensures there will be no next season.

    *see super head’s career*

A white kid rapping about college…hooray

A black kid making this shit…..unmarketable

He had a hot song. Just a little too crude.

Kanye rapped about college. Kanye’s entire first two albums are framed around the metaphor of college. Look how that turned out.

    ^^^^^^

The fuck??? Seriously what is it you smoke all day, I want to know…cuz it must be insane. A black kid did do it…his name is Kanye West, and he’s the most successful artist alive at the moment. Who gives a fuck if he is white, get off that shit…if you dont like his music thats fine, but there’s no reason why there cant be more then one white MC. If a black golfer was tryin to get on people wouldnt be like, “fuck you we already got our black guy”…smfh

I ain’t feeling this at all. Regardless of his color, where he is from, whether he sounds like em or whatever.

His lyrics and flow are mediocre at best.

    ^

    Cot. Damn.

“School Spirit” has a chorus talking about stepping. “We Don’t Care” is a fake graduation speech. “Spaceship” could be a job at the university bookstore.

    Kanye glorified college, too.

I’m pretty sure Asher dropped out as well, look it up

    ^

Sure as hell isn’t in school right now.

You just want to start fights, start fights.

Don’t be surprised when you’re alone in the corner, yelling to yourself.

  42. S.S.BlockBurner Says:

Curren$y = fresh, something new, unexpected content from an N.O. artist

Kid Cudi = nothing like his music soundwise, infectious 1st single

Wale = Nice beat selection for his previous work, good flow, above average lyrics

Charles Hamilton = unbelievable work ethic, quality by the quantity,

Asher Roth = “Stop it u guys i’m not em” “Jay dropped the ball not signing me haha” “that party last night… didn’t fuckin matter so why am I talkin about it?”

  43. Danielson a.k.a. Dat Mixed Race Nigga Says:

    RAWTH!

  44. BrooklynNY Says:

    This shit is wack.
I dont know any white people who fuck with this

  45. princeofthecity Says:

corny, ems corny too, raps gone soft yall

sure a white rapper who can rhyme words while talking about stuff they see in their everyday lives (or even stuff they fantasize about *see any white trash rapper myspace page living in moms basement, dreaming about being hard and blowing up) can be marketable to a certain extent i guess, because the reality is that thats who is buying hip hop music these days, the same kids.

that dont mean jay should sign him, quality control, asher roth isnt really a rockafella type of artist is he?

the glory days of rap were when the majority of white affluent people werent listening to rap, and so the real street rappers were on top, now the top marketable type of artist is shifted to flashy, rich, bling, and dont forget white rappers. why? because thats who is listening to rap now and thats who is spending money on it now.

i want to go back to the glory days personally.

  46. Tom Says:

damn prince so hip hop was only cool when it had no white influence at all? a little racist to me. black people are in everyhing only white people did but two white guys try to rhyme in rap, oh no we cant have that. sorry but ill take asher over a lot of these fake thugs in the game rite now. i remember about 84 when a white guy started one of the biggest record label. they signed a white trio that rocked the 80s and 90s.
