Not to jump in (nh), but there was a grip of kids that showed up to the Nah concert just for the CH performance & left. probably just as many for Bob. These kids were hyped. there was not that many people in there at one time, but during his performance it seemed like a bunch showed up.

^Honestly, I think the Nas/Jay fiasco was the beginning of the demise of the East Coast reign on a mainstream level.

    ^^
Really? That’s interesting because I always thought it keep it on life support for longer than it would have been. But I see what your saying (I think) that the wave of “beefs” that came in its wake really lowered the East Coasts’ stock.

^Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m sayin’. And as much as I enjoyed 50’s relentless verbal beatdown on Ja Rule (though his first album was borderline classic IMO, sue me), him gettin’ signed to Shady was the nail in the coffin. After that, beef dvd’s, Youtubes, etc. skyrocketed yet the content and actual music was nill.

You need to listen to the critics too, homie. I admit, you can rhyme. I’ve yet to hear a song from you that I tought was dope. You know what…that’s a lie. The “It’s Still Tha Row” remix was ill. And that was early 2000. The advantage Budden has over the rest of Slaughter House. He may not make music like he did when he first got on, but knows how to craft a song. Royce too, on a lesser level. That’s what i feel Crooked I is lacking. That & a personality

^But KOCH is not a major (on paper) though many would say it’s run like one. They don’t do A&R and artist development.

And for the record, J. Prince (head of Rap-A-Lot) built that model long before KOCH existed.

By the time snap and shit came along, there was no resistance to the South (and I’m not necessarily saying there should have been). That resistance was what kept NY on top for so long.

^ in that regard its all derivative- fuck, its all cyclical – the pendulum swung “rootsy/socailly aware” in the early 90s, was too far “gangsta rap ” in the late 90s, its swung too far to “bling party” rap in the early millennium, now its cycling back to a more “organic” look sound, all influenced by one another.
and as far as saying the same thing- motherfucklets been rapping, sognibgm talking about the same things in every genre of music since the beginning of sound, just new voices get added to the fold, all retelling the same story to a new generation of listeners

    That was for a check

    ^^
Nope. Jay was diggin them niggas music (or at least had the foresite to know they were going to blow up). Which is why he let Juve rock on a hook on a follow up to a five million selling album, and why he introduced Juve to Foxy Brown, so Juve could hop on Chyna Doll.

ny music got stale and its only so long one can be hot. Nothing last forever. Point blank period end of discussion. Rome eventually fail. You commenters wanna dissect everything of what went wrong but fail to realize, it was going to happen anyway. Get over it.

He was trying to appeal to the southern market by hooking up with cats that the South respects. If he liked Juve like that, why limit him to a hook?

I think the real problem is that east coast rappers got hip to the financial incentives/disincentives and therefore stopped working hard to make classic and near-classic albums. They saw how Masta P, Lil John, CMR, etc. were blowing up with club-ready beats, basic lyrics and albums full of club-bangers and hits but no coherence or depth, and reacted accordingly.
