Paranoid, Coldest Winter, Heartless, Welcome to Heartbreak are the best songs on 808’s, Robocop was ill b4 he changed it but all of those songs except Paranoid and Coldest Winter have horrible vocals

    ^^^

say you will is the best track. . . but street lights will undoubtedly change the game.

    ^
not bcuz its classic though just because its Kanye

  2. Rockabye Says:

I think 808s is going from good to very good with potential for greatness for me. It’s not really my style of R&B (give me Ne-Yo any day over Ye for that, his album this year is crazy good), but it’s damn good music.

I’d also love to hear someone go in on the 808 instrumentals.

Or, uh, because it’s a really great song. I watch Grey’s Anatomy (about as AYO as it gets, I know, but I watch it with the girl) and they closed the last episode with the whole song. Powerful stuff, my dude.

COME ON DAWG “classic” im a hiphop head but i can enjoy a R&B record now and then but 808 is a bad R&B record,Kanye cant sing, the production is pretty good ill admit that… Ye’s singing and the songs concepts are NOT good i just cant understand why people cant see that its not a good album R&B or hiphop alternative or whatever genre people catorgorize 808…i guess it says “Kanye West” on the CD its impossible for Ye to record wackness

    ^^
First off, I said “borderline”. No question Kanye can’t sing, but the vocals didnt bother me even when I thought the album wasnt that dope (I didnt like the album at first at all really). To me, the song concepts are what elevates it. It’s not a perfect album at all, but I don’t think classic albums have to be (again, I’m not saying 808s is a classic right now). And Ye’s can definetly record wackness, the shit with Wayne is testament to that.

Not a great song, sorry it isnt, Not a fan of Grey’s Anatomy but i was flickin through and saw a show called Nip/Tuck playin Flashin Lights for commercial, thtas a better track, Honestly Kanye has gotten to the point where he can record himself eatin Cheetos and it will be considered brilliant

808s is not r+b whatsoever, people just say that cuz ye’s black and he’s singin

808s is not r+b whatsoever, people just say that cuz ye’s black and he’s singin….:it’s really pop though, and that’s the way he intended it to be. Kanyes production game is just amazing to me, and the fact that his sounds changes damn near every year really is underrated…what other producer has done that and stayed relevant? He may not be able to sing like jl, but there aren’t too many people who can put together albums and sounds the way ye does.

    ^^^

But is IS more R&B-tinged pop than anything else. He’s got subtle hip-hop and more overt electronica influences in there, but it’s a lot of R&B tropes, and it’s really a breakup album, which is an R&B staple.

  9. Nanyanen Says:

pinnochio story is a turd of a song. im glad the whole album wasnt songs like that.

i watch greys. and what? w my girl, though.

The break up album is a staple in pretty much every music genre except hiphop.

lol, nah, that grey’s anatomy shit is what made me say that. . . . i watched the clip, and it just blew me away. . . no homo. . . what a perfect fuckin song.

….. what else do you call it then ? you definitely can’t call it a rap album it has one rapping verse ( jeezy ) the rest is autotune, most R&B is done over rap type beats now anyway, if it’s not R&B what do you call T-Pain’s music ?

  14. Nanyanen Says:

    *counts rings*

  15. Mr. Papagiorgio Says:

pinocchio’s story is fucking amazing, knock it off.

you gotta actually listen to what he’s saying. . . . i think that’s the reason kanye is a great, game changing artists. . . he actually has something to say!

  16. b-ease Says:

I thought “Street Lights” was pretentious bullshit when I first heard it. It sounded like he was going for a U2-esque epic but the song rang hollow.
I didnt hear enough in the lyrics to justify the heavyhandedness.

Upon further listens tho, I think that’s the point. The song isnt meant to relay a point or message, its just supposed to sound like getting a cab at 5 in the morning in NY, tired, still kind of drunk, and watching life while thinking about yours.

Or it might just be pretentious bullshit. I go back and forth (ll) in my mind about 808s.

why do you hafta label it????

just call it “music”. . . . really good music.

if you try to label it, that’s when you’re like “oh, this sucks b/c it’s supposed to be [insert genre], but it don’t sound like it.”

  18. landLORD Says:

yo Ty ?… whassup with your boy #4 ?.. he looks mad shaky today … and Lynch & Jackson is stepping on niggiz throats out there …

  19. Rockabye Says:

If you can’t see that a LOT of this album is influenced by “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which Ye played for Donde at a lot of GITD and other tour stops, well, then…

  20. landLORD Says:

Dan Dierdorf just said “there was a lack of backside fill”

    … A-yo, nigga …

  21. the real truth Says:

If Kanye does drop a new album this summer, i think its reception will relle prove if 808’s is a “classic” (no way in my opinion) or a failed experiment

  22. eskay Says:

“Jackson gets great penetration, but there was a lack of backside fill in that gap”

    ^aaayoooo

  23. eskay Says:

    lmao

  24. b-ease Says:

    ^^

T-Pain’s music and 808’s are not in the same genre. 808s sounds more like Beck than anything T-Pain.

808s is an alternative album (TV on the Radio, Radiohead) with some hiphop, R&B, and electronic influences.

Dude can rap, dude can produce a little bit, dude has a Sonic fetish…but whether he’ll ever be a viable commercial artist was based on him getting enough buzz to pop. Interscope tried to market him to the Soulja crowd, screwed it up, alienated the blogs, and now is back at square one.

It’s a shame, because he may end up Wale’s 2008-09 equivalent: great music, but no album to cop.

Speaking of, is Wale dropping anything in the next six months?

  37. Dr Flav Says:

(good artistic effort + significant passage of time)resililent quality = classic. I aint never heard of no classics being determined in three weeks regarding anything be it movies, clothes, cars, ect. The term is being devalued. Singing Kanye is classic hip hop huh? ***Pops in Yo Gotti “Back 2 Basics” cd and chuckles.***

  38. jrp14 Says:

I said 808s is pop, way more pop then r+b, using autotune doesn’t make you r+b…radiohead used autotune far before t-pain was doing his roger troutman
