Bush Pardons John Forté

john-forte.jpg

Wow, I didn’t see this one coming at all.

A Grammy Award-winning rapper and music producer originally sentenced to 14 years in prison for smuggling cocaine is one of 16 people receiving pardons or reduced sentences from President Bush.

John Edward Forte of North Brunswick, N.J., a graduate of the elite Phillips Exeter Academy prep school who later became a producer for the rap group The Fugees and released two albums on his own, was caught in 2000 at Newark International Airport with two briefcases filled with $1.4 million worth of liquid cocaine, according to court documents.

He’ll be home on December 22.

I wonder who lobbied W. on his behalf?

Props to Rami for the tip.

Dubya is a funny dude. I know how this happened. He and his uber rich friends was drunk at his crib. They played a game where each of ’em had to write down a nice gesture that Bush could do for the States before he bounce. After the hat went around, George had to randomly dig in the hat and pick one. His selection said: “grant a Black entertainer his freedom.”

    The rest is history.

    Welcome home John Forte.

    quotes:

Senator Orrin Hatch, singer Carly Simon and her son James, were among the people who advocated for Forte’s release.

“Now is the perfect opportunity for John to be given the chance to provide positive benefits to society through his considerable musical talents,” Hatch wrote to Bush in a January 2007 letter.

my take: he must have bougie connections. i mean look at this cat. he went to exeter. that’s the most elite high school in america. this cat ain’t from the slums, he made a mistake and had the right folks pull strings for him. it’s how america should be but sadly, only the elite have such connections that can get them out of situations like this.

pathetic…… drugs are bringing down inner city communities and people celebrate that a guy that brings in over a million dollars in cocaine is set free… why to have your priorities straight. 96. Brett Says:

Happy to see John Forte freed, although it won’t change my low opinion of GW.

Mumai, on the other hand is a MURDERER and should rot in jail forever. I know that this may not be the radical chic thing to say, but he has no business being freed.

  97. Z Says:

WOW! Bush is up to something!

  98. THE UNDERWRITER Says:

Dang. Prep school connects. Phillips Exeter graduated Bush I and II. Forte got a full scholarship. Confirmed lesson of the day: Who you know determines what you get.

    And justice for all.

  99. Greg Says:

Carly Simon doesn’t have enough clout to get at Bush. It was Senator Orrin Hatch more than anything – it was reported that he specifically wrote Bush a long, detailed letter about why Forte should not be in prison – and if he should, that he had already done enough time. From the comments, seems not too many heads know about John Forte and the circumstances surrounding his incarceration….which is disappointing because they only positive that can come from such huge, first-time offender mistakes likes this, is that others learn from it and when to say no to “friends” who want you to do their dirty work.

I’m happy for John – he was a burgeoning talent before he got locked up – and a real gentleman, in a rap music world filled with dickheads.

  100. OILY JOHN Says:

THIS DOES NOT SEEM STRANGE TO ME, LET’S ALL REMEMBER THAT “W” WAS BUSTED IN MAINE, I BELIVE FOR COKE POSSESSION, OF COURSE THIS WAS SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET BY HIS DADDYS MONEY, JUST AS THAT DRUG USER RUSH LIMBAUGH’S ADMITTED DRUG USE WENT WITHOUT PROSECUTION. ALTHOUGH HE ADVOCATED FOR YEARS, “LOCK THEM UP AND THROW AWAY THE KEY”, HIPOCRITE ASSHOLE THAT HE IS. NO IF YOU HAD THE POWER TO PARDON A DRUG USER, DEALER, SMUGGLER, THAT YOU MIGHT GARNISH CONNECTIONS FROM FOR YOUR OWN DRUG USE, WHY NOT, NO ONE CAN TOUCH THE POWERFUL. AND THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HAS PLENTY OF EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT THIS CLAIM. “SNORT ON W”.

  101. Dillon Says:

what’s with the Bush/coke cracks? Just because he pardoned someone with drug charges doesn’t make him a drug user. Clinton pardoned over 100 people and over 10 percent of them had drug convictions.(http://www.usdoj.gov/opa/pardonchartlst.htm)
