    >>jay elec is a dope lyricist with a dope voice who picks nice beats to rock over, i.e. a dope MC. he deserves the credit he gets. if someone likes it, they like it, that doesn’t mean they’re “dickriding” (which is the gayest slang term of all time, by the way…not that I’m discriminating against people’s lifestyle choice. lol).

blah blah blah, I never said jay wasn’t dope, I just don’t understand how ya’ll think that song is soooo incredible. and I think it’s a good song, but it’s just standard Jay Electronica fare to me.

***Co-sign…there’s still dope music out there, you just gotta know where to look, but I mean, there was an insane level of productivity, back in the days, the old school had these artists in their prime, just to name a few:

    Marvin Gaye
    Stevie Wonder
    Issac Hayes
    Barry White
    Gladys Knight
    Aretha Franklin
    Donnie Hathaway
    Michael Jackson
    Luther Vandross
    the Temptations
    the Isleys
    Smokey Robinson
    Parliment Funkadelic
    James Brown
    Rick James
    the Commodores
    Kool and the Gang

even their second tier artists- Gregory Abbott, Jeffrey Osborne, Peabo Bryson, Ready for the World, Atlantic Starr, etc, were dope…

**and that’s what I’m saying- you could do an exhaustive list of dope old school acts, and still leave off genius acts- the stylistics, the Chi Lites, Earth WInd and Fire, Pattie Labelle, etc….it was almost like an embarrassment of musical riches, seriously….it’s a fucking shame that R. Kelly’s at the top of the heap-not that he’s not a genius, but because he has no formidable competition….

I think that their should be a tier system for sampling classic R&B/Rap/Rock etc songs. Basically, the higher your tier #, the more artists you have access to and the more classic songs you have at your disposal. In return, you pay the proper sampling fees and agree to do a verse/produce/promote their new material at a reduced cost or pro bono.

    Debate.
