Video: Kanye West – Love Lockdown (Live on Kimmel) + 808’s & Heartbreak Listening Reviews

Ok so, last night in L.A. Kanye held the listening party for 808’s And Heartbreak. No, I didn’t go, it’s not that serious, although I wouldn’t have minded being there to witness the 40 naked girls. Hit the jump for some links.

808-session.jpg

Myspace’s A Place For Hip-Hop has a somewhat detailed account of the night, complete with paraphrased quotes from Kanye:

“Would you judge a grandmother’s love? Give it 2.5 mics out of 5?… If I wanna rap, I’ll rap. If I wanna sing, I’ll sing. I told Jay, LA Reid and everyone at my label that I needed to put this out right now, I’ll have another album in June, but this has to come out right now…”

And the FADER also offers a quick rundown:

After waiting in a loading area with an open bar and a DJ, we walked up a driveway illuminated by florescent lights to a darkened room where approximately forty nude women, most of them wearing face-obscuring masks seemingly made of faux lamb’s wool, stood in the middle—black girls in the front, white girls in the back. Then the entire album played without introduction or explanation. The women were backlit by glowing lights—mostly red and purple, sometimes strobing, often pulsing and sporadically illuminating.

So yeah, this is album is basically going to be Electric Circus meets The Love Below.

  27. Phil Says:

This “album” will be a completely embarrassing, overblown, ego-driven pile of warm peanut mulch. A complete fiasco in the making. It would probably be more interesting as mixtape, lol. But, whatever, Kanye Stans can start wetting themselves now.

  57. Kanye West - “Love Lockdown” On Jimmy Kimmel Live (Video) « 2dopeboyz Says:

[…] Spotted at eskay’s. Also, the preliminary results are in regarding Mr. West’s 808’s & Heartbreak listening party. Here’s a quotable from FADER magazine: “As for album: yes, it’s almost entirely sung by West, aside from one verse by Young Jeezy on “Amazing” and a duet with Lil Wayne; yes, it is sung almost entirely through Auto-Tune; yes, some people are not going to be sure what to make of it, but we applaud West’s decision to step off a creative ledge wearing a jetpack that no one else is sure will actually work.” […]

  62. LOL Says:

dude wishes he was thom yorke lol

  63. shhlisten Says:

I think people here are going to be surprised by how it sounds. I was there last night and the album is very electronic and all sad. There are beats that sound like Bjork and Justice. All vocoder voice throughout. He raps maybe one verse of one song the rest is distorted vocoder singing. Wayne and Jeezy are each on a song. I’m still undecided on my opinion. Need to listen again.

  64. nunya bizness Says:

This will be his best yet. Only child dealing with the death of his mom and the craziest of Hollywood.
