    >mostly the same yeah, but those same people will also be the ones determining if soulja boy was or wasn’t a one hit wonder …

^Understandable. We never fucked with mainstream anyway, so why should we let them determine who’s who, & why should we give a fuck what they say? They might say he’s a one hit wonder, but we all know that’s not true.

ok hold on hold on. i think the problem here is that in some sense Ty is equating falling off with being a one hit wonder. like naughty by nature fell off. afro man was a one hit wonder.

ok maybe i’m confused (no young buck). perhaps five years from now people won’t be thinking about souljah boy. thats absolutely fine with me. BUT imo, this statement “he is not even close to a star of any sort” goes way too far. Mims is a one hit wonder who is not even close to being a star. souljah boy has moved beyond that level.

… yeah well again I have a habit of over exaggerating things, it’s what I do…. this convo started with Joe talking about if gucci mane could blow up so could max b. and then I took him to task on his definition of blowing up, it morphed into the same thing about soulja boy and him being a ” star ” I still don’t consider him a star because the majority of people who know who he is, don’t take him seriously and don’t look at him like a star, to say he is nowhere near one is a stretch because to the kids he is but thats it and kids are fickle love you one day hate you the next and he has nothing to fall back on after that, does that fit a very loose meaning of a star I guess you could argue that but a star and a pop sensation enjoying his 15 minutes are 2 completely different things to me

also yeah I’m done with this too as we seem to be pretty much on the same page here like I said earlier the problem is more a problem of semantics and how we each define something

No one takes Kim K or paris hilton serious, but there stars. I think this is going back to “if mainstream accept you, your a star, but if only hip hop embrasses you, you just another joe smo” If you can recognize this nigga soulja boy when you see him on the streets then he’s a star, it’s different levels of being a “star” like movie stars, internet stars, etc, I know, but people know who he is, he’s a household name, so that should qualify him as a star

.. I’m saying some people will do that yeah and those are the people who ultimately as a collective determine what makes a one hit wonder list, but many people would consider naughty a one hit wonder group same with onyx, not because they fell off but because when they hear the name naughty by nature they only think of OPP, now they had other big commercial hits as well like hip-hop-hooray and feel me flow etc etc, but your avg, non old school hip-hop fan won’t recall any of that they will recall OPP though, I’m not saying these people are right but thats how it goes …

again I’m not stating what I think my guidelines for one hit wonder are I’m just explaining why i think, based on the past branding of one hit wonders, whi I think soulja boy will be placed right in that category

I can see what Ty is coming from. My thing is there is a diffrence between a one hit wonder (J Kwon) and then someone who fell off, who had mad hits but is nowhere to be found (Ja Rule). Souljah Boy right know is doing his thing. Yes he has many hits (to some people..lol) But he will always be remembered for that “one hit”…”Superman that Ho” or whatever the fuck it is called. All his other hits may get the ringtones..awards…but nobody will care about it later on down the road, but unfortunately, I do admit “Superman that Ho” will always be remembered. I mean you have weather people doing that shit..lol

Just my in put (pause), now back to happy hour at the club waiting for this debate to kick off and the breezies to come strutting through.

    *daps all and hugs Shanti*

…. point taken, on the Kim K paris hilton part ….. so yeah in that sense he is a star on their level, but look at how his name is used and mentioned throughout hip-hop, it’s used as a joke so you can be known but if your known to the majority more as being part of a running joke and some poppy fad than does that make you a star ? or just a famous clown of sorts, co-sign on the different levels of stardom and I guess in some senses to some people he could qualify as that but to me naw, also soulja could walk up to himself and introduce himself as soulja boy and I wouldn’t recognize him ….
