^It’s possible, I never thought fiddy would blow up like he did when I was listening to 50 cent is the future in 02′ but it happen. Never thought soulja boy was gonna blow, but he did also (n/h). That’s how it always goes, a rapper blows up, then everyone be like “I knew that was gonna happen” the writing is on the wall, nothing is different with max, he got street cred, he went to jail, he has beef, & he got some hot crossover songs, it’s very possible, & I think it’s gonna happen real soon. All he needs to do is merge with the south on a few tracks, get the south to co-sign him, & it’s a wrap

I don’t see why it’s so hard for people to belive max got “it” (n/h) the nigga made “ballin” if he kept that song, he would be a star now. If chingy can blow up, max can.

… people fail to realize 50’s success was a perfect storm, between his getting shot 9 times, his beef with ja and his singing ( all real rap fans were sick of it and would of sided with anyone who came out dissing ja for singing so much ), his mxitapes and of course the biggest factor of all the Dre beats and even bigger the Em co-sign, because he was telling all the millions that bought his shit that it was ok to go buy this guys shit and it worked ….

… Soulja boy blew up ???? so your definition of blowing up means you just have to have 1 hit ? Soulja boy is a one hit wonder the field of music is littered with soulja boy corpses, that kid is on like minute 37 of his 15 minutes of fame, his shit is over it’s a good thing he got that shot at GZA and them while he could because no one will listen to anything he has to say now ..

.. word I guess I just don’t toss around he ” blew up ” ( pause ) that easy, 50 blew up, Em blew up, hundreds on different cats crack TRL each year most of them fade away, some hang around but to blow up means your a full blown star commercial success and all that, now you know that shit means nada to me, doesn’t mean your talented or not talented but when talking about how a rapper ” blew up ” ( pause again ) 50 and gucci mane are on completely different levels …

^What he said. Just because your singles after your first one isnt as big or didn’t have the impact your first one did doesn’t make you a one hit wonder, if it was like that then 50 would be one since he hasn’t had a single bigger than “in the club”.

And yeah, soulja boy blew up, he still dropping singles of his first album which went platinum, that “donk” shit is from his first album, he made rap history, & he got mofo’s from all angles dissing him, you know you’ve blown up when old heads get out of there rocking chair to diss you

  66. no more ty big's just call me Kenard Says:

Vanilla ice blew up & he only had one single too.

… see again this is where our definitions vary, when I say blew up it can’t be just one song or for one year you have to have a long lasting impression to blow up, when something blows up it takes over and dominates until everyone else can get their shit together and rebuild to get back on equal ground, one hot song does not do that, Lean Back was one of the hottest/most played songs ever ain’t nobody ever say Fat Joe or terror squad blew up, thats one hit wonder status, think Kriss kross, skee lo, tag team, all them dudes had waaay more than one song but only 1 you can named over a decade later and the same will be said for soulja boy if crank dat even lasts that long

  67. Joe 88 Says:

    @Ty

Okay our definitions of “blew up” are a lil different.

    >Soulja boy is beyond over, he is not even close to a star of any sort,

^He just did the beat for bow wow “marco polo” which is a hot single (not to us, but on 106 & TRL) he produced the beat for “his” first artist “V.I.C” and he’s got a few endorsement deals. I wouldn’t say he’s over with just yet

Anybody know the song that is playing at the end of this trailer..

  69. b-ease Says:

    ^^
I’m not saying he had other songs, I’m saying that nigga had other hits. And he’s the first debut rapper to go platinum in minute. That’s not Afro man status at all. I’ve defended this kid enough now, my dignity can’t take many more hits. But still,

    Donk>>>>>>

“not close to a star of any sort?” no-sign, i understand not liking his type of hiphop, but facts are facts.

… ok let me clarify, no more of a star than kim kardashiien or paris hilton, in fact he is less of a star than them and they do even do shit, he is known because of one catchy jingle, so where those motherfuckers who made ” who let the dogs out ” that shit still gets played in sporting events around the world but does anyone know who they are ? can you name any other songs they made ? no of course not and that is what soulja boy is, your just to deep in the forest to see the trees (c) woody page

.. no thats my point though, the common listener won’t remember shit about 50 but his poppy shit but he became so big he had a following of sorts, those die hard fans will remember way more about him than the avg. Now soulja boy doesn’t have those fans, yeah he might have had a couple pre teens as fans but kids that age change their taste in everything almost daily, when you blow up strickly on some youth shit your almost never gonna stick around because you got a very short window of time to hold these kids attention, before the kids even finish the album they are like why did I ever like this garbage, this is the system that is set up I didn’t make the rules I just explain them …

    @ ty

hey hon. question: do u listen to the radio? souljah boy is still on it. alot. and like b-ease said, dude went platinum. kim kardashian and paris hilton are inaccurate comparisons. we are talking hip hop stars, not just celebrities in general. i’m not a souljah boy fan either but he’s definitely not a one hit wonder and he’s obviously a star. i think you may be out of touch with whats going on out here because you prolly don’t watch bet or listen to the radio. the internets would have you believing mickey factz and crooked i are the actual hip hop celebs (no shots at either rapper) but thats just not the case.

lmao, I can honestly say I have never, at least knowingly, heard any other soulja boy song other than crank dat, you and joe were the first ones to ever even mention the name of another soulja boy song in my presence, again he is liked by the young’ns their stars go in and out of style quicker than anyone, teenagers are the most fickle fans cause their tastes changed daily, if you ” blow up ” but do it to a teen audience you will not last long enough to be remembered as anything other than a one hit wonder, think back to everything that was considered a one-hit wonder in your lifetime and now think how many of those songs you liked ? Yup thats right almost all the ones you liked was when you were a kid and didn’t know any better you just liked catchy bullshit, times haven’t changed it’s the same thing

  85. Joe 88 Says:

I feel what your saying Ty, but that doesn’t apply to soulja boy, one hit wonders usually only have one song that hits #1 on the charts/106 etc, but I remember his song “soulja girl” & “Yahhh trick” hitting #1 also, “superman” might be the song you remember him the most for, but that don’t mean he hasn’t had success with his other singles, just go to youtube, type in soulja boy & look at how many hits all of his videos get a year after “crank that”

  86. Shanti Says:

    @ ty

hey hon. question: do u listen to the radio? souljah boy is still on it. alot. and like b-ease said, dude went platinum. kim kardashian and paris hilton are inaccurate comparisons. we are talking hip hop stars, not just celebrities in general. i’m not a souljah boy fan either but he’s definitely not a one hit wonder and he’s obviously a star. i think you may be out of touch with whats going on out here because you prolly don’t watch bet or listen to the radio. the internets would have you believing mickey factz and crooked i are the actual hip hop celebs (no shots at either rapper) but thats just not the case.

    __________

…. a) no I don’t listen to the radio b) I’m not really disagreeing with you guys, our disagreement is on some semantics shit really, you guys are too close to him still being on top to realize he is going through the same cycle as every one-hit wonder does….. I just think he will still fit in the category of one hit wonder, in 5 years I promise thats all he will be thought of as, if that even. yeah my Paris Hilton and kim kardashian comments aren’t about hip-hop but fine stick with hip-hop how many people were bumping petey pablo and shit like that like crazy, what about coolio all those types of rappers, their songs were huge and dominated more than crank dat ( at least to my recollection ) but ask someone what they think about them now and what do you get ? yup they call them one hit wonders

shit ask someone who isn’t a die hard fan about naughty by nature i
gauran-damn-tee they say they are a one-hit wonder too and that will cause me to smack them silly, same shit can be said for Onyx and countless other rappers that are way better than soulja boy

  89. Joe 88 Says:

    >muah @ joe 88. my day was alright. how was yours?

    ^*melts*

    >oh and joe88 i’m not sure max b is gonna blow up unless the tides turn and the south is not the premier region for rap music.

^Now that you said that, I changed my mind, j/k. I think max can get love in the south like how 50 cent & the dips get love in the south. He just needs good music & a few co-signs

    >have u checked any of the B.O.B tracks es has posted on here?

^That’s the singing dude right? Naw, I just heard him on T.I album, what’s his style like? (n/h)

  90. no more ty big's just call me Kenard Says:

and for the record I harbor no ill feelings towards soulja boy let him get his 15 minutes and milk it for all it’s worth but you can’t tell me he will go down as anything more than a one hit wonder to the majority of people, because realize it’s the majority that determines if your a one hit wonder and if you people think soulja boys fans now will care about anything he is doing in 5 years than well I don’t know what to say, but his fans now will grow up and move on and your avg. person will recall nothing more than crank dat by soulja boy 5 years from now that = one hit wonder

  91. Shanti Says:

Ok but Ty, Coolio and Petey Pablo are still on a different level from Afro Man. I mean, your margin for one hit wonders keeps widening.

  92. Shanti Says:

^That’s the singing dude right? Naw, I just heard him on T.I album, what’s his style like? (n/h)

^^He’s actually a rapper who sings hooks as well. He kinda reminds me of Andre 3000 mixed with Devin the Dude. He definitely has a Dungeon Family kinda sound. You might remember him from his radio single, “Haterz Everywhere I Go” or some shit like that. I didn’t really like that song but it got him radio play so I think that’s why he made it.

  93. ODEMIC Says:

    *shrugs at Joe88’s list*

that makes him even more of a one hit, cuz chances are he wont be able to top his debut numbers.

If “i’m so horny” or that “i like big butts” song debuted in this day and age they may have done those numbers.

still one hit wonders tho, lol.

  94. Joe 88 Says:

    @Ty

But the people who think those dudes like “naughty” & “Coolio” are one hit wonders aren’t real fans of hip hop, so yeah, there gonna feel like that, but to a person that music is 90% hip hop there not gonna feel like that. I can name hits from “Petey” & “Coolio” that’s not what people will remember then for, cause they had em.

Besides, the people that would call naughty by nature & all them others “one hit wonders” are the people we rebeled against since rap blew up, so there opinion doesn’t count, lol

…. but thats in the youtube age, if you provided multiple links for all the old on hit wonders you would of had the same thing, people in out society want instant gratifcation, we are essentially trained monkeys, again I can’t think of any off the top of my head but I remember seeing lots of lists of one-hit wonders when i thought the people were crazy cause I could name multiple songs by said artist but the fact of the matter os 5 years later there was this one or maybe 2 songs the majority knows and the rest only the die hards know, in 5 years I guarantee you don’t remember any other soulja boy songs, so you knowing them now is all well and good but it won’t stick and you don’t care too make it stick, the majority of the world feels the same if they aren’t already closer to me therefore he is on his way to being remembered as a one hit wonder

  98. Joe 88 Says:

The same people that would call naughty by nature “one hit wonders” are the same people that called rap a “fad”

    Real talk

    @Shanti

I remember that “haterz everywhere” song, a lil bit. I check for him, but only because you co-signed him. lol

  99. ODEMIC Says:

if people who dont normally listen to Hip Hop like your hip hop song, you have a hit.

anything else is just a joint that your fans think is nice. but its not a hit.

  100. Shanti Says:

ok maybe i’m confused (no young buck). perhaps five years from now people won’t be thinking about souljah boy. thats absolutely fine with me. BUT imo, this statement “he is not even close to a star of any sort” goes way too far. Mims is a one hit wonder who is not even close to being a star. souljah boy has moved beyond that level.

Ok but Ty, Coolio and Petey Pablo are still on a different level from Afro Man. I mean, your margin for one hit wonders keeps widening.

…. well cut me some slack you’ve been around long enough to know I just open the flood gates and type whatever comes out, i don’t wait around for better examples, but also the margin for one hit wonders is very wide, and my other main point is also not all one hit wonders deserve to be labeled as one hit wonders but they are just the same and I see no way that the kids who are listening to him now will continue to care about him, because they will do what kids do and move on to different interests and artists, whatever becomes the next big thing which should be happening any day now, the biggest thing holding this back from being official is no one new has come out with some new corny catchy dance/jingle yet but, when they do you can bet it will be soulja who ?

  103. Joe 88 Says:

^50 will never top his numbers from “in da club” is he a one hit wonder? Ja will never ever ever ever top his debut numbers, is he a one hit wonder? Just because you can’t top your pinnacle doesn’t mean your a one hit wonder, it just means you had a banging year.

… exactly and both them dudes had made other songs and albums, and people listened to all of it, they had mad fans and especially 2 live crew had a cult following but now they are considered one hit wonders by the main stream, somehow I don’t think soulja boy is gonna overcome what they couldn’t

  106. Joe 88 Says:

anything else is just a joint that your fans think is nice. but its not a hit.

^So “fantastic voyage” & “gangsta’s paradise” wasn’t crossover hits? people who didn’t listen to hip hop liked both of them, but niggas is still willing to call coolio a one hit wonder, what part of the game is that?

.. mostly the same yeah, but those same people will also be the ones determining if soulja boy was or wasn’t a one hit wonder …

  109. Shanti Says:

ok hold on hold on. i think the problem here is that in some sense Ty is equating falling off with being a one hit wonder. like naughty by nature fell off. afro man was a one hit wonder.

I know erybody got a nigga like Capo in they crew, that nigga wit his heart on his sleeve, always asking if a certain nigga looking at him wrong, be getting drunk as fuck, ready to ascertain his position or what not, just a real street nigga

Erytime I see him on, it’s pure entertainment, him and Game, them niggas just got personality to spare (n/h for all you insecure niggas)
