Video: Chuck D & Snoop Dogg on Living Legend

This time around, Youtube’s Living Legend honors Chuck D of Public Enemy and Snoop Dogg. I caught onto this the first time around when they did the Rolling Stones but didn’t really have the patience to watch 30 or so clips. Luckily for hip hop fans with short attention spans, they made about a third of the clips for two times the artists. In the player above, you can watch all the testimonials from the likes of Afrika Bambaataa of the Universal Zulu Nation, MC Zion from the Zion I, Los Angeles Congresswoman Maxine Waters, David Aaron (Snoop’s engineer), Chairman of Prisoners of Conscience Committee Fred Hampton Jr, Boots Riley from The Coup, Black Thought, music promoter Darryl Brooks, ?uestlove, Executive Director of the League of Young Voters Biko Baker & Western Union‘s Damani. More testimonials and fan questions will probably be added later.

The point of this whole campaign is for curious fans to record a video response no longer than 30 seconds with a question for either legend. The only advice I can give is don’t waste any time because once Youtube features these videos, it’s a wrap, so you basically have a head start right now. Actually young chris came into the game sounding like Jay-z….Only after state prop and rocafella started kicking it a lot in the studio, hov used some of that whisper flow from chris…..

But young chris studied jay..and flows like jay….People are so quick to try to diminish another man’s accomplishments….They all rapped together and was in the booth together, so of course they are going to take somethings off of each other…

Jay birthed lupe’s flow and swag….and many others…

that kid noe is not bad though…..sounds like the old jay….I can’t hate.

    >>If Jay’s doesn’t bless officer Ross with a verse are we even talking about this song?

Nope, because “Maybach Music” is Jay-Z’s swag. Jay actually does the Maybach Benz justice in real life and in his verse.

Ross was rhyming about D-Boy stuff while Jay was rhyming about Picasso’s, Rembrandt’s, and Rothko’s.

    ^^^

The media is controlling what is outrageous to Black people nowadays…nonetheless, satire is what New Yorker is known for, but if you didn’t know that, the cover comes off as the most out of pocket shit ever…

Yeah I know its satire….see my post above yours….Most black folks don’t read the New Yorker….and Don’t give a damn whether its satire or not….It just plays upon stereotypes of what most white folks think of them…

I just thought it was funny…..But people are up in arms, and maybe rightfully so….This whole “political satire” thing is getting white companies into trouble…

They tried this same incident with tiger woods and the editor got fired….when keep it real goes wrong…

  25. PHENOMENON Says:

Ahhh, even so, I see absolutely nothing offensive about the caricature. The Obama Kool-Aid drinkers will get aggy regardless.

The satire is based on the immense amount of Obama’s questionable attributes. I see no jabs about race. His die-hard “fans” will pop sh*t about it though.

what makes you think your level of offensiveness is better than other people’s….You act like if you alone aren’t offended then its alright….People have a right to be offended regardless of what you feel….

Me personally I’m not offended…cause this doesn’t pertain to my life….But I can understand why in general people will be offended…….People don’t give a damn about satire these days….

  36. PHENOMENON Says:

I’m just expressing my opinion. My opinion being people make something out of nothing.

The reason I have this opinion is because I saw nothing racial about the caricature. The satire depicted in the drawing was based solely events relevant to politics. [Baring that I missed something.]

It’s not about my level of offensiveness because I don’t see anything to be offended about at all.

Lol at this cat, sitting on some ammo, waiting for my response….That’s why I answered the way I did….People are predictable…

Nah it’s more than that….you’re just looking at the surface of the picture…I’m delving deeper into it….

When I said the word “it’…. It was pertaining to a collection of drawings and stereotypes of the past as well as this one…

See this aint the first time that something like this has been done….too many times has some “liberal” company made a point by mirroring racial subtleties only to make it backfire on them….Look beyond the surface..not just at the picture.

^ yeah the woods/noose thing and… what else is in this collection? im curious to see where you draw the line between satire and offensive, because i’m pretty sure the NYer cover is a satirical portrayal of how the bible belt views obama, not blacks at large, not say that they dont have negative views of blacks, which is what you seem to be saying, but thats a larger issue altogether and not really whats being discussed here.
