The New Common Album = 100% Kanye Free
Lonnie shared some details about a few tracks from his next album Invincible Summer with Billboard, and also revealed that Kanye won’t be working on the project.
“Kanye was focusing on his ‘Glow in the Dark’ show, so he hasn’t been able to make it to the studio to weigh in,” Common says. “But it worked out well, organically. The Neptunes & Mr. DJ came up with a fresh sound for me.”
Judging from some of the song descriptions, I’m guessing ’90’s era Common purists are going to be just as unimpressed with this than they were with Finding Forever.
Here’s a partial track list:
“Universal Mind Control (U.M.C.)”
“Make My Day” feat. Cee-Lo
“Punch Love”
“What A World” feat. Chester French
“Changes”
“Party Shit”
“Dreaming”
“Runaway” feat. Santogold
UPDATE: Rolling Stone also has a preliminary review

lol @ Dem
May 1st, 2008 at 12:49 pm
chicago has two sounds
that down-south/midwest crucial conflict/twista vibe
and then that common/kanye soul vibe
No ID created the second one out of whole cloth
because no ID was yeezy’s mentor, common’s later work sounded like a continuation of his work with No ID, so naturally i loved it
i am intrigued that common won’t be working with kanye because the sound that the two of them create together (PAUSE) is dope imo
as for neptunes, i think com will sound dope over their beats
they know how to adjust and fine-tune the sound to fit the artist, and com has a really wide range in terms of beats he can rip
as always one thing you can guarantee is that the shit is going to be dope (please nobody mention electric circus LOL)
May 1st, 2008 at 12:50 pm
wack title. album might be sus. Tho Common is dope, this album is going to be a real test for him.

Does the Neptunes still mean No Chad? That asian dude is the real imo. Cuz What I heard was Chad had nothing to do with Hell Hath No Fury and some of the beats were bare compared to the first Clipse album, which had haymakers and monumental sounding shit of course Grinding notwithstanding
*daps all in attendence* *does hoodrat things*

commons always been wack

Kanye West is so much better than The IneptTunes—don’t bite my name for Pharrell and Short Round—that it’s practically criminal. Don’t give me any of that sentiment for the Superthug days of those two either because that song was crap. Common’s still signed to GOOD Music and I’m sure Ye will have some input. Also, Kanye choruses are like a billion times better than Neptunes Choruses.
May 1st, 2008 at 1:19 pm
Yeah, Neptunes w/o Chad is an adventure to say the least. Hopefully with them just doing the N.E.R.D. project, they’ll feel like working with each for a while.
May 1st, 2008 at 2:29 pm
lonnie is buggin…
he should just make sure chad is involved…
pharrell alone is a fuck up

I guess everybody forgot what a hot track Come Close was. That just happened to be a Neptunes beat. But since that was on Electric Circus everybody wants to forget about that album but it had a gang of gems on it, among them were 2 Neptunes tracks, which he released as the A & B side of his lead single.
Chad most definitely did produce Hell Hath but he also produced half of Ashlee Simpson’s new album. Is he still the truth to you wishy washy ashy ass nigs up in here?
Can’t wait till you nigs jump on the bandwagon when this is released. Believe me, there will be plenty of room.
May 1st, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Pete Rock, Premiere, NO I.D. are all great producers that Common can work with. Neptunes are bootay!!!
May 1st, 2008 at 3:30 pm
I don’t get how kanye and common worked together last 2 albums and made some dope material and then boom “kanye was focused on the tour and couldn’t come to the studio.” I mean that’s what happens when an artist is under an artist it seems. People ignore the fact that it is a conflict of interest. I hope the album comes out dope but i’m just like why destroy whats been working so good and the excuse is so lame to me.
May 1st, 2008 at 4:20 pm
i agree on “Come Close,” that’s better than pretty much everything else i’ve heard from that album.
Pharrell did “Hell Hath” by himself, production’s credited to “The Neptunes” but Hugo’s nowhere in the writing credits. same with most recent “Neptunes” beats
The Neptunes are (were?) one of the dopest production teams around, and it seems to me like some of the hate they get is just based on a lame anti-pop/synth hip-hop head attitude, but Pharrell’s been going downhill with the solo beats lately, so if Hugo’s onboard here it’d probably help
May 1st, 2008 at 4:42 pm
this is only commons ep though its called endless summer this is not his LP the believer….that will have kanye they have already completed a few tracks common said a month back
May 1st, 2008 at 5:04 pm
Sounds like “Electric Circus” all ova again…..
May 1st, 2008 at 9:04 pm
i hope he gets a couple Primo beats then.
im fucking with Chester French too. they got a good sound
no Kanye West on the album is risky
May 2nd, 2008 at 1:11 am
i liked the common/ just blaze chemistry…
also cant go wrong with premier, that chemistry always works.
