Rolling Stone Preview of Nigger

The new issue of Rolling Stone includes their Spring Music Preview and they have a short blurb about the mythical Nas album.

…Polow Da Don, Stargate, and Cool and Dre contribute beats to the disc, which includes "Be a Nigga Too" (a play on the Dr Pepper jingle), the Fox News-slamming "Sly Fox," and "This Is Not America," on which he raps about sexism and racism in the U.S. "This album is like talking to your child about sex," says Nas. "It’s uncomfortable, but it’s important."

As much as I don’t want to play that game where we pretend like this album is ever dropping, I have to say that I wouldn’t mind hearing the Little Homey take on Fox News using a medium he’s comfortable with.

I can appreciate what son is trying to do with this album. At this point in his career he’s trying to do more than make “hot” songs.

  7. G-Harp The Producer Says:

I think it will be released, with a different title and little substantive subject matter. Basically none of the three tracks mentioned.

I never even saw that aspect, but it’s probably closer to the truth than anything.

I hate the guy as much as anyone, but Bill would chew Nas’ ass up. You can only beat Bill if you’re a better debater (Sharpton) or a complete douche (Cam and Dame). Nas is pretty inarticulate for someone thats obvioulsy so intelligent. No way he could leave with dignity.

Bill’s an idiotic asshole but I’ve seen enough Nas interviews to know that nass can’t speak intelligently; off the mic he sounds like a retard.

    anticipating the album….

*sits back and continues to watch the hate of nas’ “business sense” by random bloggers*

  38. HAHAHA Says:

WOW…Look at the producer list for this album. Fool & Gay, Homo The Thong and Faggate. NaS has gone off the deep end. He’s washed up and must have some 19 year old A&R picking his beats and is perfectly fine with it. When I heard about DJ Khaled on there I nearly puked. NaS is trash. Nothing like what he used to be.

By the way, Polow The Don jacked two premade loops from Apple’s Garageband to make the latest Usher beat. That is sad. To think he’d not get called out on that is amusing.

  39. Prophecy_Projectz Says:

I dont see nothing too wrong with it. People act like Nas is some new artist who needs buzz. All his albums go gold and plat and his last joint was a #1 debut. I just think he likes to flirt with his multi personas and this is clearly crazy Nas from the Stillmatic/Summer 2002 Hot 97 meltdown almost lol.

At the end of the day, whats wrong with hearing Nas get political? Most political and concious rappers aren’t that coherent and a little phony, but we love it cause its rebellious, crazy, funny yet entertaining. So its cool with me. Im sure it will hurt his promo abilities (picture him doing the rounds on TRL, Late Show, 106& Park with this) but lets see.

As far as when the album dropping, why has this gotta be the new Detox? I didnt think he was releasing the album in the 4th qtr 07/1st qtr 08 anyway cause Nas always drops albums every 2 years in the 4th qtr ( usually), so I didnt believe it when he said it was coming out at this point anyway, he just needed that buzz I guess.

If its past December 2008 and it doesnt drop, then I will ask whats up? But until then, everything is on schedule.

It will probably called The N or something. Personally I thought when Bol called it “The Dreaded N Word” in a poll of upcoming albums, that it sounded like a quirky title to stick with it. Keep the content and call it that in an almost tounge and cheek manner.

Cool and Dre is cool and I heard Toomp and the Hitmen are on it and thats cool. Jay Electronica is cool too. Dont know about Polow and JD. But I would like to hear a Just Blaze batch of cuts. I dont think Alchemist, Primo or Large Pro will be on it but it would be nice if they were.

Chill my Niggas, Nigger will come. Just in the 4th qtr.

Now that Detox on the other hand….

You sure? Cause the album did its business and sold decently in this market age (700-800k) which is better than like 80% of the rap game and he’s always got some attention when an album come out.

  80. Prophecy_Projectz Says:

For real I thought Carry on Tradition, Let there be Light, Who Killed it, Where are they now and Hope explained the Hip Hop is Dead theme.

I see what he’s doing though. He’s taking conversations and themes and putting them out there for people to debate themselves. That Hip Hop in its purest form.

Like even before he named his album Hip Hop is Dead. You had people talking about how rap was “dying” or “selling out”. It seemed to be at the peak in 04/05 when NY rap was quiet and sales started to slow down. So to further galvinse the whole him signing to Def Jam, he put it out there. He said on the album why he felt some parts are dead but also how it could live on and left it to you as the listener to interpret the situation

With Nigger, I guess hes gonna do the same in light of the Imus situation things like Oprah calling out Hip Hop and Jena 6 and things like that and just encompass it all in one album, give his opinons on social and political issues and then leave it you the listener.

I dont get why people never look at it like this?
