Lil Wayne May Vibe Cover + Excerpts

Here’s Dwayne on the cover of the May issue of Vibe and some excerpts from the feature.

Wayne on his love for making music:
I love the studio. It feels like going into a classroom, you know you didn’t study everything, the test gets in front of you, and you’re like Damn, I know all the answers. That’s how I feel when I get in the studio, like Damn, I know all the answers.

On his addiction to syrup and suffering from withdrawal:
You will literally feel it going in, like Pepto-Bismol shows in the commercials. It pissed me off Because I couldn’t get off it. I can take pain good but that wasn’t pain I could take.

His response when questioned about his lifestyle:
Don’t judge me until you meet me.  And you know when you gonna meet me?  Never.  So don’t judge me. Don’t worry about my health because what you doing?  And when you tell me what you doing, I bet it ain’t half as great as what I’m doing. I smoke, drink, and do what, who, and how I want and I’m going to keep doing. And I’ma die the way I want. And that’s that.

On his legacy:
I wanna be a Bob Marley.  I wanna be a Tupac. Their lives mean so much. I wanna mean so much after I’m gone.  Y’all still gotta do shows, tributes, dedicate 20 whole minutes to me on every show. I want that.

His response when asked if he’s scared of death:

F— no.  I¹m more afraid of life than death. I don’t know where you going when you die, so I ain’t too scared of that.  I already know what’s poppin’ around here.  It’s scary out here.

Lil Wayne on wanting respect as an artist:
I still feel like I’m not being respected. I still feel like I don’t have the crown.  I still feel like there’s something I have to do that hasn’t been done.

    MAKE A CLASSIC ALBUM?

    A CLASSIC SONG?

    CLASSIC VERSE?

    CLASSIC LINE?

    A CLASSIC QUOTABLE, AT LEAST?!?!?!?!?

THIS GUY HAS NOTHING. JUST A CLUSTER OF SONG’S THAT “SOUND” HOT.

    JAY-Z SAID IT BEST.

” I THINK LIL’ WAYNE IS EXTREMELY TALENTED. I THINK HE’S ONE OF THE MORE TALENTED ONES OUT THERE.”

“I MEAN, EVEN MORE SO HOW HIS DELIVERY IS THAN WHAT HE SAYS.”

“YOU KNOW, I DON’T THINK SOME OF THE THINGS HE SAYS SOMETIMES ARE THE GREATEST THINGS.”

“BUT THE WAY HE DELIVERS IT…………….MANNNNNN.” – JAY-Z

I THINK WAYNE IS AN OK RAPPER BUT I THINK YOU HAVE TO BE OUT OF YOUR MIND TO THINK FOR ONE SECOND THAT HE IS ANYWHERE NEAR THE TITLE OF “BEST RAPPER ALIVE”.

TO THINK THIS, YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE IGNORANT.

    IGNORANT OF:

    1) JAY-Z’S PAST WORK
    2) NAS PAST WORK
    3) EMINEM PAST WORK, AND MANY OTHERS.

WAYNE CAN’T SEE ANY OF THESE PEOPLE LYRICALLY AND WOULDN’T SURVIVE A SERIOUS BATTLE.

  15. sleep Says:

He wants to be bob marley so he got dreads. He want to be. Tupac so he tatooed cash money across his belly. He know deep down he wants to be jay-z above all. Wtf he means he knows all the question so I’m guessing c3 will be a classic if so I can’t wait cause I haven’t heard a classic album since get rich and die trying.niggas nowadays call every good album a classic cause its good don’t mean its a classic.

I love the internet I haven’t bought a hip hop magazine in over a year cause eskay post all the shit good look mi amigo.

  16. Melchizodok Says:

    Co-sign phenomenon
Wayne is not lyrically deep at all. I said it before, if i was in the studio all day long saying the same thing, I’ll be called the greatest mc alive also. I’m sorry, This dude a homo thug, If U don’t retaliate on what 50 said, U gay, then those condom ads? Dude just gotta good delivery, rhyming over east-coast beats! He’s redundant and stupid as fuck with his drug problem! I got no espect for this nigga, steering kids the wrong direction seriously.

  17. sleep Says:

Come on guy stop with the whole steering kids the wrong way bs. I came up listening to the gansterest(not a word I know) shit but I’m working a getting my masters now and don’t break the law(weed should be legal). Sorry if these kids are so f-ing dumb they imitate every rapper. Lil wayne should put”georgia bush” about hurrican katrina on c3 cus that was the best song of that kind of his career. Look @ the way kanye put a song that was 5yrs old on graduation and fact is that the average person that buys the album probably never heard your mixtape and if they did they wouldn’t care as long as its good.if I took all wayne mixtapes of the past 2 yrs I could piece together a classic album. I think mixtapes is the reason we don’t have a lot of classic albums because people are sceard to put a hot song from their mixtapes on the album.

He might have a idenity crisis, but on the music tip, he’s following no blueprint, he just does him. Keep that cup close wayne, keep the blunts lit, keep doing those lines & do you.

… perpetuating and glorifying terribly negative stereotypes (drinking lean, faggotry, pimping hoes) to make money (especially when you are ALREADY paid) is COONING; which does a complete disservice to one’s own culture and … to a certain degree i overstand cooning to get in the door (as older entertainers had to) … but Wayne, Snoop and Flav are some of the worst kind of sellouts …

    MAKE A CLASSIC ALBUM?

    ==============================================

True, he needs a classic. Carter II was cool, but it ain’t that.

If Wayne dropped a classic on the Ready to Die, Reasonable Doubt, illmatic level, nobody could question his status. Until he does that, he’s just the latest dude to be on every magazine cover and have a guest spot on a lot of tracks. He may have potential, but shit, so does Oschino from State Prop.

Only a classic, or the continued absence of one, will settle the Wayne argument.

  30. miltee Says:

Seriously though, when Wayne’s at the top of his game, he IS one of the greatest alive. The problem is that’s about 1% of his work. If you look at how he bodied that “Hollywood Divorce” track with Outkast, he murdered them on their own shit. Not just flow wise, but content too. And Kast are legends.

Also more recently, that Rich Boy remix. When Wayne’s on his spit he’s shittin on rappers.

  31. Joe 88 Says:

    >>>>if I took all wayne mixtapes of the past 2 yrs I could piece together a classic album.

    ^Co-sizzle

  32. miltee Says:

Go listen to “Amen” by L’il Wayne, on one of his mixtapes, and tell me that doesn’t shit on 99.9% of Hov’s catalog.

  33. Plug Says:

… but Wayne, Snoop and Flav are some of the worst kind of sellouts …
    —————
how did snoop and wayne sell out? Snoop has a semi-positive show on TV displaying good family values. Wayne has always been on lean. I dont condone the kissing. but wayne reps his hood to the fullest and tried to put his boys on. he still making music for his original fans, he still gives you free music every 3 months. If anybody sold out it was Jay z

  34. Joe 88 Says:

If Wayne dropped a classic on the Ready to Die, Reasonable Doubt, illmatic level, nobody could question his status.

^If wayne dropped a classic, people would STILL find a way to discredit him. They would say, “oh his album was hot, but it still had lollipop on it”. Truthfully, it doesn’t even matter no more if he makes a classic album because his followers are gonna love it reguardless, & his haters are gonna hate it reguardless. People already made there minds up on how they take wayne (-) either they love him or hate him.

  35. landLORD Says:

^^^ If anybody sold out it was Jay z

    ———————

… also true … he sold out on a whole nother level … as in, sold his soul …

  36. sleep Says:

Snoop, wayne, monique, katt williams are bafoons but I can’t put wayne into that category

  37. Joe 88 Says:

I feel like a black republican, toat a mac in the public, act so southern, die for my brother & money

  38. Soul Clapper Says:

Go listen to “Amen” by L’il Wayne, on one of his mixtapes, and tell me that doesn’t shit on 99.9% of Hov’s catalog

    ===============================================

    ^ Woah.

Wayne seems to be one of those rappers that people either love (nah) or hate. Nobody seems to think dude is just okay. Except me, that is.

The way I see it, his high points are pretty high, his low points are pretty low. I was listening to his guest spot on Ye’s album today, and I thought that shit was horrible. Woeful to the point of embarrassment. But then “Tha Mobb” came up on my iPod on shuffle 30 minutes later, and that is a classic Hip Hop track in my eyes.

  40. landLORD Says:

… the reason i added Lil Wayne is because i actually admire his rhythmic skills … but he seems intent on stunting the lyrical growth he started to show on Carter 2, and right after … he seems capable of so much more, but seems to revel in self-destructive behavior, and increasingly assinine lyrics …

The only go by what they see on BET. Like thats all there is.

^But when you entertain at the expense of destroying a culture of people then you should be held accountable. That’s Black peoples’ problem now: we do anything under the Sun to “entertain” and make a dollar to follow in the footsteps of the Draco (crakkkas). Then our only sound arguement for defense is, “well, when white people do it… ” Why in the hell are we still worried about what THEY’RE doing? Our culture and their culture have two different affects on us as beings. For one, they have no culture. Everything that they’ve ever accomplished has been stolen, perverted, and regurgitated back to the masses as somethin’ “orginal” where they are just “having fun”. It has no purpose so they write it off as “just having fun” and continue on with their lives. Everything that Nubians created had a significant MEANING, even though we have signed the crakkkas contracts and now (mis)use it as just entertainment for our own personal monetary gains and their enjoyment. Rhyming/MC’ing, dancing (tap, modern, stepping, etc.), singing, and all other means of physical “talent” all have meaning in our history. It wasn’t just for the sake of sayin’ things to be sayin’ it. Am I entertained by our talented kin? Of course. But at what point do we stop and think about what’s being put out there and tryin’ to offer somethin’ of substance to help self and kind. And though I have disdain for Wayne as an artist because I think he’s wack, I’m not holdin’ him soley accountable for the destruction as a whole. But since he’s the topic/thread of discussion, then I will continue to beat the brakes off of the dead horse well-after he has stopped breathing.

And as I just mentioned, MC’ing/Rhyming, singing, dancing, are more than just rhythms and words. They are tones and vibrations and they’re used to send certain messages. The Devils want control of our art for a reason. I suggest yall take heed…

If you say Wayne is a legend…you dumb.

I’ll admit, he’s one of the best that the game has to offer RIGHT NOW, but a legend? Nah cousin. He has way too many strikes against him. We have at least four counts of confirmed swagger jacking, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Examples include biting Jay’s flow up hard, biting Clipse (mainly Pusha T) ‘dopeboy swagger’, STILL on Dipset’s dick, and now he wants to sing like T-Pain. Shit is way past ridiculous now.

Don’t get me wrong, I think dude can definitely spit. But original, he is not.

I agree with one of the earlier comments, Wayne has already peaked lyrically. And the wack shit he’s been dropping lately is evidence of that.

I love when people bring up the “swagger jacking” and the biting. Kanye does it, Jay-Z does it. They all “bite”, they just put their twist on it. Lil Wayne gets all the shit for it though because he says he is the best rapper alive. For some reason people have something against Wayne that is absolutely ridiculous. He is a good rapper, just because he doesnt talk about selling drugs and murdering people for fun it doesnt mean he is not hard, or a legend. He uses metaphors and his rhymes are so creative. Most of his songs are about women and money. Welcome to hip-hop, either you brag about you have/lost or you are a stonecold drug dealing killer. I would rather people talk about what they have/lost and enjoy the lyrics. Wayne is good, and you know what….he probably will go down as one of the best. His lyrics are evolving (in a good way) and with followers like Drake and the rest of young money, he will continue to stay in the spot light. He is becoming the man who brought him into the game (baby). He is starting to mentor Drake, and soon Drake will take over wayne. That is a long way away, but mark my words: Young Money will stay in the spot light. Kanye, Jay, Jeezy= rappers that will go down as the top, with young money ofcourse. No matter what you guys think or say its the truth. This blog proves it, you guys all took your time to talk shit or show love about wayne. So even if you hate him, you are supporting him. This post along with the others shows his popularity. He represents mainstream, underground, and straight up good rap. Everyone complains he has no classics, he doesnt care. The dude has so many mixtapes and leaked singles, why do you think his albums are always just good? Everything he puts out is to great, so when his highly anticipated album comes out he make it for the fans.
