Most youngers out here dont even listen to rap…Just Grime & Yard Music.

Our influence is Jamaica, not America

^what ever the music, it still should have a revolutionary core before all out Gangsterism. A true Gangsta anyway becomes part of the system, and makes the changes necessary from within. So all the tough guy gun talk is fascinating but baseless surface babel.
    ——–
    soul says:

But to say that bruh’s over here are acting ‘gangsta’ all of a sudden and to copy cat the US, that’s wrong. Wrong and a touch ignorant too.

^ Ok I’m from England too born there. Still got family there, seen multiple DVD’s all gun talk. You have a booming Urban film market pure violence. Why all this now. I have yet to here any unity hip hop songs like those of the past.

    ******************************

So, let me get this straight. Your saying:

-Yard music doesnt have a revolutionary core???? MORE revolutionary than Hip-Hop???

-Your judging London off DVDs??? SMH.

Gangtserism has always been a forefront of LDN culture. From the 70s & 80s in the East End to the gang wars of the 90’s. This didnt start recently. Its actually calmed down recently. Check films from the 80s to see what I’m talking about. Do your homework blud.

    >>I have yet to here any unity hip hop songs like those of the past.

    ^^^^

The biggest UK song of last year was a song called Black Boy, that was ALL about unity. Do your homework, your sounding like Tony Blair right now…

  24. catch22 Says:

  28. Soul Clapper Says:

    lo k Says:

where can I find some good grime?

    ==============================================

Really, I don’t know. It’s not my scene. I don’t dig the bullet-proof vest in the club look. But from what I can tell, no Grime worth copping is available in records shops. It’s all heavy underground, homemade shit that kids pass around or hear on pirate radio stations, they might pick up a promo 12″ or two here and there, but you’re not likely to find a Grime section of CD’s in Virgin Megastore, except maybe the Channel U joint.

Maybe Romez knows more about that music than me.

Last weekend I saw kids “live in the flesh” doing the hipster thing. They looked fucking ridiculous. See, if you do it right, you can dress in that hipster style and actually pull it off. If you’re famous, have a stylist and someone who can tailor your clothes to fit you the right way. If you just try to pull it off with random articles of clothing from Goodwill and your closet, shit can ugly real quick. Theres almost no room for error when you try to do the hipster thing.

  38. lo k Says:

@RIGZ/SOUL – yeah… I don’t usually look for major records stores for my music anyway… Since I’m not doing the college radio thing anymore, I’m not as quick to run to Fatbeats or any of the other record stores to get the latest stuff that hasn’t been sent to me…

I saw Sway a year or two ago in the city… dood had some heat… he passed me a mixtape of his where he goes back and forth with Sway from the wake-up show… funny shit…

I know pirate radio is huge out there… I remember hearing something about how cats were making beats out there using playstations and what not… i’ve always been a jungle enthusiast… I love me some mid 90’s ragga and jump-up… it’s all about the bass…

    What hipster rap really is:

It’s nothing more than a post packaged form of Back pack rap, with updated funk beats and upbeat sounds. This time they are not really talking about conscious mumbo jumbo, but the everyday man with street life and parties and bullshit combined. It straddles the line between conscious and street.

Now the hipster movement adds swagger to their rhymes which separates it from the back pack rappers, and they also add swagger to their clothes. The only thing is that these cats are still rapping like they are in 92-96, and it comes off bland and uninspiring.

They are recreating a new age hip-hop retro movement which is straight trash. These are the dudes that get no bitches in highschool that try to rap. The difference is that they want all this swag but there is none in their lyrics and rhyme style. It still comes off as the same old saturated shit, That has been done to death. They are recreating anything new.

The back pack movement was a hot New and creative movement, it differed from the gangsta style. This hipster movement is just a copycat.

I understand everybody has their reason to push these cats, get their name out there, etc….and I can’t knock that…..but don’t over do it. To the point that if someone doesn’t like them he’s closed minded and shit. Please. To me this shit don’t even exist and I can’t listen to it for more than 12 seconds cause it does nothing for me….but I’m not gonna sit here and say that.
Don’t be mad cause people do like this.

  79. RIGZ Says:

    I predict:

As soon as there is PROOF of intelligent life-forms that aint from Earth, Scientologists are gonna take over the world…

They’ve already got people of influence in place…

Mark my words. Remember i said this shit.

hipster rap > 90% of hip hop right now

    *straight face* (c) nation

  81. catch22 Says:

LF: everytime i see that commercial with the dudes riding bigwheels on the downhill course, it makes me want one again. anyone else had a big wheel back in the day. those were ill.

  82. The Truth... Says:

    >>>You dont have to be a gangsta to rap. But if you a herb you shouldn’t rap either.

—-What makes them better than 90% of hip-hop right now? They are not even better than 15 percent of hip-hop right now to me.

  85. frank lee speakin Says:

does anyone else think this is the stupidest name for a rap group since rumpletilskinz

  86. yaboy Says:

yo the majority of hiphop right now sucks balls… mad people putting out just some straight up garbage…

  87. PHOENIXXX Says:

I’m happy the industry is dead and nobody’s really selling records in rap anymore

2006 saw a nice amount of platinum albums

2007 saw maybe 3 platinum rap albums and a lot of gold albums

2008: no one will reach gold by the end of they year. at all. except MAYBE Eminem if he drops.

cats is starting to see that rap aint easy money no more, and dudes will start putting their all into their music. or atleast trying to prove that they make good music. people been saying for a while that it’ll come full circle, come back to being about the art

    It’s happening, slowly but surely.

  88. Joe 88 Says:

I catch you while you shopping for kicks, surprise bitch!

  89. lo k Says:

@RIGZ – what do you know about David Icke?

  90. Mark Twain Fame Says:

I can dig that the truth…

I aint sayin you closeminded if you dont like it…I’m sayin to the cats that prejudge and talk shit even before they listen to the music and the skills, they just see some dudes with some glasses (which are nerdy I guess…unless the dude really has to wear them joints for a good reason like…to see!) and some weird clothes/fashion sense and they assume man they wack, they suck, now thats some bullshti to me…see what I’m sayin.

  91. khal Says:

some of you niggas in the comments need to go over to realtalkny or some shit. the fact that you guys wanna call something hipster or whatever is one thing, but you guys missed the mark totally on tanya morgan. keep sleepin’…

    nice up for this eskay

  92. I MEAN YUCK! Says:

    Woo-Hoo!!!

    More Gay Emo Hipster Rap….Zzzzzzzz!!!

  93. m dot Says:

the fact is this….everything is cyclical

whether you call this “hipster rap” or not, it will, just like everything else, come and go….
the point of music/art/anything creative is to inspire discussion…that’s how you create longevity and keep yourself relevant. so now it’s up to Tanya Morgan to continue to put that music out there to keep people talking and decide whether they want to create their own niche or be a part of someone else’s niche….i wish them the best of luck in this crazy industry
