The best rapper is your favorite rapper….cant we just all get along?

Some people like fruity pebbles and smacks, and some people like Captain crunch and cinnamon toast crunch….And others prefer corn flakes and grape nuts….

I’m just glad there is cereal….and I’m just glad that there is music that I like.

    ^^^^^

There IS no best rapper. Just favorite rappers.

    Other than that…

The cereal analogy was one of the funniest things I’ve read on NR for some reason. The sincerity in the last line was priceless…

…. I think he is a damn good actor, he played the hell out of that role IMO, true it’s not too much of a stretch from being a rapper but still, I was glad to see Slim Charles get him though, cause the motherfucker was a snake and Slim was always one of my favorite characters, he was mad loyal and always was thinking about shit logically and rationally and the scene from season 3 when he was telling Avon ” if it’s a lie then we fight on that lie ” when talking about people assuming Marlo killed Stringer was a classic wire scene

.. theres more too it than just being yourself though, timing screen presence all that shit comes into play and is not as easy as it seems, true it’s an extension of what he does with rapping but there are plenty of rappers who can’t come close to making that transition ( DMX, Ja, Beanie and freeway etc. etc ) now Common Mos Def and Pac were probably the 3 best shit Pac played a cop and a dope fiend and played them well …

Food and liquor > The Cool,

F and L comes off more natural. The Cool seems like he didnt balance vibing to the music with thinking about concepts, i.e. heavier on the thinking. The Cool probably took more work, but at the end of the day its music. I guess it depends on what you look for in your music, but both are quality albums.

naaw but its the way he went about it.. I hatet 2 admit it, but I kinda stopped fuckin wit young Wasalu Jaco based on that sh*t.. and acutally, STILL heven’t listened to the Cool yet

  100. CiCi The Intern Says:

***Exactly…but I guess, @ one angle, it’s better for the masses to read garbage than nothing at all- these rapper scribed books are no worse than celebrity autobiographies, or pulp fiction novels…besides, with no rapper books, we wouldn’t have “the World According to Pretty Toney”, lol

    ^^^

I don’t have a problem with hip-hop lit, street lit, hood lit, whatever you want to call it. There was, and will be, always a place for that in black literature period. But my issue is that publishers, major publishers, are only publishing black books like this or like Black erotica because the shit sells. It’s retarded. Black people read more than that. If you look at Toni Morrison, BeBe Moore Campell (RIP), hell even Terry McMillian…they could WRITE. Ninjas can’t write anymore

The cool isnt that bad it’s just not as cohesive…But there are more than a few good songs on there. Sometimes his lyricalism gets in the way of actually creating music…But His flow is very listenable….

Even though it has a higher percentage of weaker songs, I dont think the best songs on F&L are as dope as the best songs on The Cool.

    ====
for me the good songs on the Cool get better with each listen, but the weaker songs have gotten worse for me or remained stagnant. there’s a handful of tracks on it that are straight snoreville!

I never saw anything wrong with what lupe said about tribe….Does he have to listen to them?

… when your performing a tribute to them than yes, if you don’t listen to them don’t accept the invitation and forget the words, also if it wouldn’t be such a big deal if his whole style didn’t sound like a direct descendant of tribe, see : Paris, Tokyo …
    ___________________________________________________________

I dont think he is a direct descedant of them….He has a mellow pattern of making rap music, but I dont think it’s similar to Tribe…

I think people associated him with tribe cause there are some external similarities….But tribe music has been in existence before them and many people have made mellow rap songs…

It’s like Uncle murder and MOP are similar, in that they are consider loud hardcore rap, but I neccessarily would say they are the same or a direct descendant….

  113. icon (trillbert arenas) Says:

@ CiCi- my favorite authors are John Edgar Wideman and Marita Golden, so I gotta co-sign…black lit has lost a step- half of the book covers either have some nigga with dice and a gun, with a title like “da game done gone bad”, or some chick in a bikini, “the baller’s jumpoff”…I thought Kenji Jasper “Dark”, “Dakota Grand” was a standout in the genre, though…

@ Fux- they’re giving your boy Nick Young some props, for his game last night….(none)
