    ___________________________________________________________

Are you fucking serious?? How do lyrics apply to rap? Isn’t that 50% of what hip-hop is?

It’s cool, I know you’re as stubborn as me when it comes to these disagreements on this site hahaha…I respect your opinion because I know others share your same views.

But Talib makes timeless music, he is not a rapper…he’s an ARTIST. When hip-hop has crumbled to the ground, been beat to death by every happy-go-lucky-baller/hustler who decided to rap when he was 23 to make some money, years will pass and people will be checking for lyrics by Kweli, Mos Def, etc. etc. because they are outspoken and LYRICAL about their surroundings at the time.

No fucking club/dub/love/thug shit…that shit doesn’t stay hot for more than two months, all that shit is DISPOSABLE.

It’s like Reggae music, anybody I know who checks for Reggae doesn’t listen to newly released artists. They check for the old Roots smashes from way back in the day. Those artists still tour the world and get that show money. Wouldn’t you want your music to have substance and stand the test of time?

    ^^
i can understand/relate to/feel the content of the wire… i just didnt think that the first season was well made (cinematically). it wasn’t filmed, edited, produced as well as a show with that content could be.. so i never got passed the first few episodes.

    [edit] Future projects

Simon is also producing and writing an adaptation of Generation Kill for HBO with Ed Burns.[45] Simon has written a teleplay about bluesman Muddy Waters that has not been produced.[3] He has mentioned plans to write another book; potentially about the rise of drug use in the 1950s and 1970s.[4] Simon continues to work as a freelance journalist and author, writing for The Washington Post, The New Republic, and Details magazine.[27]

Simon is collaborating with Eric Overmyer again on a project about musicians in post-Katrina New Orleans.[33] Overmyer lives part-time in New Orleans and Simon believes his experience will be valuable in navigating the “ornate oral tradition” of the city’s stories.[33] The show will focus on a working class neighborhood and will be smaller in scope than The Wire.[42][33] HBO have commissioned a pilot episode of the series but it has not received a “green-light”.[42]

Simon told Baltimore’s City Paper in 2003 that someday he plans to write another book.[5] “At some point I’m going to put down this crack pipe of television and go back and do another book or something,” says Simon.[

    ____________________________________________________________

The answer is NO…50% of hip-hop is not based on lyrics…Lyrics is a part of the whole…NO rapper has ever been popular, sold a lot, or respected based on Lyrics alone…

You believe that Talib makes timeless music because he makes conscious music…Conscience music is just as disposable as the thug/party bullshit that you claim…Only a small sect of People are checking for Talib right now, and years later he’ll be a footnote as a guy who carried the high lyrical ability during a time of snap n’ dance…

Conscience music can be just as trash/garbage as club/thug music….If you can rap and display knowledge, passion, lyrics, artistry from any background then it can be remembered ….no matter what the subject matter is…

See we have gotten caught up into subject matter too much….It’s not in the subject matter in itself it’s the over saturation of the subject matter that people get ancy and irritated over….

So The Wire did it again, David Simon is a genius

I just did a tribute post for the greatest show ever made anyone wanna check it out, I’m gonna do more posts on the actual finale and the fates of the characters in the next couple of days but for now my goal is too try and reach everyone who has never seen the show and make them see the light and go back and watch every last episode and thats what this post is all about, there has never been a show as real or in depth as The Wire and I don’t care who you are or where your from you can most definitely relate to the show and it’s characters. There also has never been such a rewarding show in history, seriously the pay offs and the emotional roller coaster the show takes you through are absolutely amazing.

If you have never seen it or only watched a couple episodes please for your own sake ready my post and hopefully you will realize the show is about much more than you think and if you still won’t watch it then my job still isn’t done and I will continue to beat you over the head with it until you wake up and see for yourself.

just click on my name to check it out, it might be long but it’s worth it I promise if you let yourself check the show out you will love it even if you hate TV in general cause thats just the point The Wire doesn’t follow any normal TV formulas or scripts it sets it’s own standards and feels as real as TV can

But really, it comes down to the drum, and your flow. if those two things are tight, you could talk nuclear physics and people would get with it. but the niggas thinking on those higher levels put too much stock in it. that’s why jay chose to appeal to a larger portion of the audience.

Nah, I have been taking a step back from inside the world of hip-hop and seeing what all this really means….

I’ve been trying to apply a methodological basis for why lyrics have become the crux of rap to rap elitist, when it was not based up on from the start…

I’m also trying to figure out why Rap is the only art form where “High lyrical ability” is the measure of standard for respected songs- where as other genres of music, the high lyric ability was not displayed but the altruism of the words and the meaning had a definite impact on the people.

In other genres, the message was more important than the actual elongated spellings of the word…And thats what I’m trying to explain.

Kenard what overall theme did you get from the final episode

^the more things change the more they stay the same?, thats what I got

one junkie cleans his act up, and a new junkie is born
I dru*g d*aler falls from grace, one is in line to fill the void
    cop retires, others are promoted
stick up kids dies, a new one is born

politics is chess. your power pieces depends on how much dirt you have on the next man. The way things are will never change. The Design of the system is so deep and mechanical, that it can not be touched. The momentum is so great that it sucks up even the uncorrupted and innocent.

    ^Alien moment sorry.

    * spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet ignore these words *

yessir thats definitely the theme here, you got Bubbles cleaning up his act and finally being allowed up those staircases right as Dukie falls into the life of an addict that he was born to become, you have Omar dead and buried and Kenard being carted away but you have Michael now taking over his spot as the stick up kid with the shotty ( Michael always was Omar in training and I never realized it until the final episode but he was always about himself and his family, never wanting to be a part of anything else whether it was declining Marlo’s hand outs or putting in extra work for Bodie and as snoop said in the second to last episode ” you never were one of us and you never will be ” well yeah it appears Mike agrees and thats just how it wanted it, probably my favorite and the best example of it though is Sydnor sitting in Judge Phelan’s office in the same chair McNulty sat in, that started the entire show off. McNulty sat in that chair in the very first episode talking about how the bosses aren’t doing what needs to be done and the criminals are being allowed to continually operate and work their way around the law and there is nothing being done about it, it showed that after everything the show has showed us, everything the city has been through all the lessons that should have been learned, it’s right back where it started, FUCKED stuck in a vicious cycle that will never change until the entire system is brought down and rebuilt

One thing about The Wire is you can’t judge it one 3 or 4 episodes because the beginning episodes of the seasons are just setting things up for the end and future seasons, everything is connected in way more ways than you can imagine, and like I said if you think it’s a show about cops vs. drug dealers you are selling the show mad short because it’s about the decay of American cities and who is really behind it all and profiting from it, it’s by far the realest show there ever was and doesn’t even feel like TV, trust me if you go back and start watching it by the end of season 1 you will have changed your mind as the show doesn’t start getting real good until around episode 9 of season 1 …..

Heat coach Pat Riley announced Monday that Wade, the All-Star guard and 2006 NBA finals MVP who has battled left knee pain throughout the season, will not play in Miami’s final 21 games this year.

The move was expected, although its timing—with so much of the season still to play—was mildly surprising. But Wade missed Miami’s game against the Golden State Warriors on Friday because of knee stiffness, telling Riley at the time that it pained him just to get out of bed.

The next day, Wade looked strong playing in Atlanta. But with all hope of the playoffs gone, the Heat—the NBA’s worst team at 11-50—and Wade decided Monday that the time was right to give the franchise’s best player additional time to heal and rest.

but the Ncaa is gonna be crazy as well, never has there been such a wide open season, anyone can win it this year, don’t be surprised to possibly see multiple mid-major teams in the sweet 16 maybe even final 8 ( teams like Drake or Butler should not be slept on by any means )

O yeah i warned you guys I’m on a warpath so I’m gonna keep re-posting this comment also I had to re post it so it was on the front page of alumnah so here you go again, but this will not be the last time you see this posted today

  262. icon (trillbert arenas) Says:

LOL..Gil’s hating on Nash, a little, but he speaks the truth….

It’s like if you compare Steve Nash to John Stockton, you won’t even look at Steve Nash and Stockton never even won MVP. We did the numbers last year when they were talking about Nash maybe winning three MVPs in a row and I was like, “I don’t even think he has better numbers than John Stockton.” So we went to the books. And we saw how good Stockton was. He was in the top three in three-point percentage, steals and assists every year. I was like, “WOW! And he didn’t even get close to winning one MVP.” My teammates were like, “Because he had Karl Malone,” and I was like, “Well, Steve Nash has Amare.” Nash averaged 11 assists, while Stockton averaged 14! Steve Nash is hard to guard, so I can only imagine how hard Stockton was to stop in his prime.

I remember when I played against him for two years, I hated him. Aw man, he pick and rolled, he shoved, he grabbed. I was like, “Leave me alone. Sub me out, coach.” I was like, “I’m closer to Steve Nash in assists than Nash is close to John Stockton in assists.” We did the math. To catch John Stockton in assists, Steve Nash would have to play at least 12-14 more seasons dropping dimes at the rate he’s at now.

Malone stormed into his agent’s office, slammed his fist on the agent’s desk and vigorously complained about his picture not being on the Wheaties box instead. After all, Malone said, his down-home, truck-driving persona was more popular with sports fans than MJ’s elitist appeal. Besides, Malone insisted, he was much better looking than Jordan.

Far be it from me to judge the comparative handsomeness of The Mailman and His Airness. I will venture, however, that six gold rings certainly made the latter’s fingers better looking.

… people must realize jersey is the most expensive State to live in, between insurance, houses, taxes and property values, not to mention Gas and food yeah it’s not as expensive as NYC but thats cause theres such little room in NYC, theres a reason jersey is the most densely populated state and also costs the most to live in…. and commuting is about as expensive as living in the city now anyway cause of all the tolls and rising gas prices and parking in NYC….

yo i THINK i see what you sayin.. but for this:

the message was more important than the actual elongated spellings of the word…

    ^^^
if that is so, wouldn’t the SUBJECT MATTER being expounded upon actually matter, after all? and therefore refute your prior assertions from above..?
    ___________________________________________________________

Of course the subject matter can be expanded on….But the key is how?…..Expound can mean delve or further elaborate….Does it neccesarily mean elaborate with elongated vocab to make you seem smart?….

An elongated spelling of a word- Is broken down to simplified words to explain the meaning of the elongated word….We place a higher status to quantify that this “song” is one should listen too, because of the high level wording.

But High academia words and music SELDOMLY mix…..Music convey’s emotion, the most true and tried messages are short, simple and sweet and to the point. Not that you cant have high academic words, but it has it’s proper place.

Any subject matter in itself is basic knowledge….We give high level wording to different meanings based on languages from another. So any word can be broken down into a simplified form.

So If I was to say the word “microbiology” To some that would mean something elongated or high academic, to some not so but for example sake lets roll with it…….micro= small……bio= life…..ology= study of….Therefore we conclude that microbiology is the study of small living things.

So therefore YES you can expand your subject matter, you dont neccessarily need to format high level wording in your music, but it doesnt neccessarily make you smarter or lyrical than the next person who expounds on it in a intelligent and more simplified way.

Ok well, I wasnt neccessarily trying to place you in that category…It’s just that in the standards of hip-hop we as a whole give more status to a particular song that some deem as “lyrical” than one who isn’t…

That was mostly to rex hussla which he equated me of not particularly liking talib as being dumbed down….which I have never seen a study that equated intelligence with what type of music you listen to…

True, And AZ to me is a very dope rapper one of my favorites of all time….But what makes him great is the Juxtaposition of what I was talking about…He was able to speak with such clarity and acuity on a topic that was seen as low-life and low class…

His flow and timing were impeccable, but the way he patternized and positioned his words is light years ahead of Talib….The way he verbally flipped his words…He gave you a bit of simpleness…Then high level wording all at the same time….His versatility was comparable to none….and Yes he did have swagger with it too….and Talib is missing that….

Among who?……If you already have a low IQ and listen to tony yayo, then those people had decreased brain function before they listened to him…..Listening to him MIGHT perpetuate even lower standards but Its not the causal of Low IQ….

Tony Yayo is from the ghetto or hood or whatever you want to call it, so those who are from those areas might be affected by it….

But Rap music does not have that affect on Surban to rich white Kids…To the point where they are uneducated with a low IQ .There are plenty of Doctors and Lawyers and teachers with Ph.D’s that listen to Tony Yayo….

Tony Yayo only perpetuates or accelerates a process, he is not the causal of the process.

    The Game Still in Jail

Contrary to previous reports, rapper The Game is currently still behind bars. Although website TMZ.com previously reported that the MC had been released from the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, his manager Jimmy Henchmen confirmed to XXLMag.com that he is still in custody. The confusion over the Black Wall Street head’s release apparently arose from jail records that listed him as having been released late Sunday evening (March 9). While he did in fact leave the Twin Towers facility, he was moved to another facility for safety reasons. According to Henchmen, Game’s camp is still anticipating his early release due to over crowding in Los Angeles jails.
