Badu had better watch out that I don’t catch her on the humble, she could be scratching her ‘fro wondering how the hell she got wifed up by a Bricky ninja if she ain’t careful word to Billy Billz. I would smash and leave the gunk in the fro to add that little bit of frizz to the situation.

But NY cats made it famous and they talked about it also…Maybe its just not done in an intellectual or with more acuity than you were used to hearing…The linguistic variation of expounding on cars rims and bitches is not thoroughly present in a lot of rappers…But the subject matter was talked about even in the west coast dominace, but done with more artistry.

    LMAO….Look at max b’s picture

  18. EnglandRepresent Says:

Yeah Mike Jones and Paull Wall fucked up the image of the South in terms of lyricism with their standard ‘woodgrain grippin, won’t catch me slippin, lane to lane switchin, on 4 4’s tippin’ bullshit.

lol, funny though, I actually liked that song, mostly due to the beat and bass line. shit that song would knock speakers. Even though it was garbage lyrically.

  23. Two-Times Says:

when you a member of dipset and you release a song called “Dipset is over”

    you completely lost

    co-sign
songs don’t always gotta be lyrical to be good

  26. Boosie Says:

Just cause you aint “lyrical” dont mean its garbage…You can be lyrical and garbage at the same time….
During the lyrical ages of hip-hop, it was more of a phenomena to say 6 syllable words a line, and also during that time it was a political movement that was happening as far as the Krs-one Rakim and public Enemy….

Music goes in cycles, its not stagnant….The saturation of lyrical ability wore thin because it got old and stale and everybody was doing and a new style thus shifted…

But when Puff came through with Mase an em…That opened the flood gates, so the south is essentially doing the same thing that the east coast was doing..but it comes off in a more tackier way.

Contrary to popular belief…This was bound to happen..You cant say what music is better or what music is trash..It’s all art..You can say that some people have more lyrical dexterity in their lyrics, but sometimes you just wanna lay back and chill and not have to cipher what this cat is saying.

  27. EnglandRepresent Says:

Oh now you see Norie and P Stacks you got me twisted (none). I wasn’t referring to the Tippin on 44’s song I just made up those lyrics to show the garbage generic lyricism of the South during that period. That particular song knocked heavy. It’s just that every joint in that era had those ‘woodgrain grippin, sizzurp sippin’ lyrics in it. And that’s what got ninjas thinkin the South was wack cos it all sounded the same.

  28. cMac Says:

I just moved from Lawrenceville,a GA a few months ago. That juvenile thing is sad.

  29. EnglandRepresent Says:

That Bun B interview over at ahh is official. Dude is an intelligent cat, that’s pretty rare in rap these days.

oh no doubt, I understand what you mean. I think the thing is that NY and early West Coast lyricists could talk about rims/cars/everyday grimy shit and make it sound good because they infused good lyrics/flow/metaphors etc into the songs. On the other hand the new south talks about the same thing, except using garbage flows, pre school lyrics/words, hardly any metaphors and yeah…You pretty much get my point.

But co-sign boosie, it def ain’t gotta be lyrical to be nice. I listen to the most lyrical of shit but I enjoy a simple good song that hardly has any lyrical shit just like I enjoy a no plot having shoot em’ up movie sometimes.

  31. sleep Says:

why were all the haters saying I get money is not lyrical, even thou that was hot song…
