EW Preview of Rising Down

EW heard a good portion of the new Roots album and they’ve put up a track-by-track rundown.

”RISING DOWN” (possible alternate title: ”Humdrum”) Guest rappers Mos Def and Styles P join Trotter in unleashing a slew of dystopian imagery over heavy, atmospheric synths. ”It’s not an intro, but more an introduction to the topical theme of the album,” Trotter says. ”Mos kicks it off from one perspective. My verse is about global warming and how the world is all haywire. And Styles P is rapping about prescription-drug campaigns, the stuff they advertise on TV, all the crazy side effects. We’re all dealing with different aspects of the state of the world.”

^^^Not to long ago, I was arguing with someone about Rick Ross being lyrical. I heard some mixtape cuts that really impressed me. Who else has used thus in a hook?

Good to see Malik B. back in the mix with the crew. It looks like he’s only appearing on one track, though I wish it could be at least 3 of them. I’m not feeling the presence of both Saigon & Peedi but hey, what ya gonna do?

Looks like a solid 12 tracks so I’m definitely ready to get my hands on a copy. Good look on the link.

didnt peedi tour with them for like a year as an “unofficial” member? that song (Long Time) was dope as fuck. Based on the article, sounds like it might be “Things Fall Apart” pt. 2
