    There’s a Raekwon interview up at hiphopdx.com.

He says Cuban Linx 2 should be out “by Summer next year”.

    ====
LOL!….seriously, all I can do is laugh about this now. Summer next year really means 4th quarter of next year or early 2009. Raekwon lost.

It’s like there’s two worlds now—the real world and online. People care so much about how much so-and-so [sold in their] first week. I remember a time when nobody cared about that. Just because you didn’t have a good first week doesn’t mean you’re not gonna have a successful career. Look at Jill Scott. She sold 7,000 records her first week and then went on to sell a million. Information is definitely fucking these kids up, man. I used to care what they said online. I used to read something like, “Skillz is washed up, he’s nothing but a ‘Rap Up’ dude.” Then I realized that I was arguing with a 14-year-old from Arkansas and it made no sense.

^lol & Co-sign, but I still think skillz as an overall MC is below average.

^Mannn, you’re gonna be hard pressed to find material of him rappin’ like that. His first two albums, Confessions of Fire and S.D.E., stay in that lane (”Let Me Know” is still one of my favorite songs… Digga flipped the Monday Night Football intro into a beat). You’re gonna have to check Clue’s old mixtapes for that style of rap he was on.

Cam feat. DMX, “Pull It” = top 10 street songs ever

It didn’t make the COF album though, and ended up on the Woo soundtrack. Smh

^Yeah, a lot of these teenage idiots only know him frmo Come Home With Me and everything after that. But the mid-20’s and older cats know that if you wasn’t a Cam fan back in the 90’s, then most of what you’re listening to is watered down garbage. His cut “Glory” with Nore is one of the best tracks ever. He used to smash all of those freestyles. I remember on that Funk Flex vol. 3, he and Charli Bmore rapped in abbreviations for the whole freestyle. In retrospect, I’m pretty sure he penned Charli’s verse.

Seriously Siete, I’m worried about the Wu in general. Other than Ghost, all the best work from the Wu recently has been from the extended family… dudes like Cilvaringz and Bronze Nazareth. I thought the Meth album was terrible (although I acknowledge a lot of people liked it. They didn’t buy it, but they liked it!)

I mean, how cohesive will 8 Diagrams be when RZA’s having to virtually hold a gun to MC’s heads to get them to tape a 16 here and there? Is Ghost phoning in verses or is he in the studio with the rest of the Clan?

  49. icon (trillbert arenas) Says:

    From Unkut:

few new things from the Bronx Bombers….just heard six cuts from the next Show & AG project. Show is rocking more samples than his recent stripped-down minimalist beats and AG is sounding good, so hopefully the finished product will help erase the mental scarring I’m still carrying from hearing the solo thing The Giant did with all those shit-brick LA guys…

Speaking of Madlib, he continues to make more annoying shit than winners, and if this track from the Percee-P album is any indication, I think I’ll stick to “Kickin’ Flavor Wit My Man”. That has to the fifth track I’ve heard him flip same verse. Did Perc stop writing new verses when the nineties ended or something?

Diamond D, who at some stage transformed from the “best producer on the mic” to a big ballin’ tough guy called D-Squizzy (not that I’m complaining), has released two street CD’s in recent years. Continuing the 45 King action I thought I’d throw this Mark James produced joint up. Not sure if he’s got any new stuff in the pipeline though.

OC featured a slick song with Sadat X at the end of his Hidden Jewels CD, with any luck his My Soul To Keep album that’s due later this year will be more on that tip than Smoke and Mirrors, which wasn’t doing much for me in terms of music.

^I knew you was gonna type that, lol, it hit me (nh) as soon as I hit submit comment. He did kill nature tho, i’m a fan of both of those niggas, but it was like sauce was waiting for the moment nature came @ him sideways, I could imagine how happy sauce was when he heard the diss. SMH @ Kay slay saying @ the beginning of the some “Fuck you doing to that lil nigga man?” lol, but in nature defense, his debut album was better than sauce money’s, nature’s album stood the test of time, while sauce album didn’t age too well

^Yo, I don’t even remember how the beef started. This is back when I had my first laptop and I was downloadin’ madd shit from Audiogalaxy (had over 700 songs) and I came across a few Sauce freestyles (he got one over the Mobb Deep “Getaway” beat that’s straight LAVA). Next thing you know, I’m listening to this one freestyle and heard that verse and damn near fell out my chair. Why did the beef even start? And leave it Slay to instigate some shit. But you’re right about the albums, because I copped Sauce’s album (again) off of Amazon last year (for under $1), listened to it, and was like… wtf?! The BEATS is what make it so outdated. I mean, I used to like Digga, Duro, and Dame Grease production… but that shit was saturated with it.

I hope somebody takes his album and add some fresh beats to it and release it as a mixtape or somethin’.

Nature won, album wise. But that verse definitely drop-kicked him over the turnbuckle.

^Ahhhhh, I DO remember that Sauce verse that mentioned in the beginning of that paragraph. Yo, in all honestly… Sauce was a better lyricist than Jay, imo. But he, a.) was fat, which wasn’t marketable (according to the labels) after BIG died, b.) murked himself with that wack production on that 1st album, and c.) his Roc ties woulda helped him… but I don’t know what happened between him and Jay. I assume they’re still cool though because he showed up for Jay’s Reasonable Doubt concert.

In the end, he still won because he ghostwrites a lot of shit, i.e. I’ll Be Missin’ You for Puffy… who still owed him royalties a few years back for that song.
