I think TyBiggs just mad that 50 got some love in NYC…
    It’s all good…

  10. Big Homie Says:

I seen pics of this last week and it looked like he got love. Props to Eskay for the video.

Avalon is actually a dope spot. I went NYE 2007 and it was crazy.

  11. Two-Times Says:

    “…New York City!!!!..”- Yayo….

    Here we go now…

  12. 911 Says:

Didn’t look that bad, wasn’t great either. I see what your implying Esk…if that had been jay, nas, wayne or kanye….you wouldn’t have been able to hear anything. sad. really.

  13. Two-Times Says:

Avalon is actually a dope spot. I went NYE 2007 and it was crazy.

^ It seems like a small spot…or is that just the camera angle…

  14. k-rob aka guy brewer Says:

am in flatbush and all i hear is “i get money” yall must be on drugs if yall think 50 is hated in nyc.
nyc just wants him to make shit like this so they can bootleg it and bump in they rides.this is a song for nyc and the hood.now he can do this all day, but not if he wants to sell records.he can make hood shit like d-block, but why do that when your in it for the money. if gully songs were selling 50 would be ther best at it period.half them niggas on stage is from bedstuy them yayo nigga and the rest is far rock and south dumouts. queens is poppin right now especially in southside is g-unit all day over there.dont let these blogs and rapper fool you, come see for yourself.

  15. Two-Times Says:

50 said you will hear him and jayz on eminems next album

    article at @

^^ 50 & Jay & Em all on the same song…damn… they better come with fire…. it would a good look

  16. Paperstacker Says:

But the way some dudes pull bitch moves and look like they’re giving birth when some dude tripped them is pathetic

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

lmao, that shit is annoying, especially when they do it every 10 seconds. I mean getting tripped up is one thing, but these dudes act like they dislocated something, then 2 minutes later their up like nothing happened. smh

I watch the World cup though, shit is interesting. MLS=garbage though. I get fox soccer channel with the other cable channels so sometimes once in a blue moon when I’m flicking through I don’t mind watching Brazil for international matches, or Chelsea/Manchester when its the club matches, don’t know anything about the rest of the other teams though.

  17. EnglandRepresent Says:

    Brixton > NYC

  18. 911 Says:

or if that had even been 50 five years ago…hip hop changes like the seasons though. I think 50 will continue to tail off because the image that he and Interscope made for him has boxed him in. I mean is he really going to have to find a confrontation every time an album is due to come out for promotion. Spark when he started…

For his legion…everything typed in this back with the 911 on top is MY opinion not yours. Smh.

  19. Killa Jones Says:

thas club avalon in manhattan, went there for prom …shyt was wack..you could pick up some white girls if you like.

  32. Paperstacker Says:

it was about 50 monkeys on the stage though…but the gorilla had glitter on his vest…

  35. EnglandRepresent Says:

  36. State of Grace Says:

Will do Eng (what’s her name?), but does the fight situation change if it’s Raiders fans? They’re some gully motherfuckers, throwing D batteries at people’s heads and shit

Will do Eng (what’s her name?), but does the fight situation change if it’s Raiders fans? They’re some gully motherfuckers, throwing D batteries at people’s heads and shit

^^Amy, won’t give out her name on a blog bruh but she’s a cute white chick with dark blonde hair and dark skin. The fight situation does’nt change, D batteries ain’t shit. If the Chelsea Firm get hold of you them fuckers put a knife up in your mouth in between your teeth, push that shit hard against your mouth which gives you big cuts either side of your gob. Then they smack you upside the head so the cuts either side of your mouth tear. Its called a ‘Chelsea Smile’ cos you’ll need 50 stitches either side of your mouth. D Batteries vs Chelsea Smile? Raiders fans lose.

  39. State of Grace Says:

That’s funny, whenever the Brit I work with goes off about Man United, I always say “fuck that, Chelsea’s harder, Man United are soft cunts” and he gets all mad, I’ll have to bring up the Chelsea Smile. A cute white chick in Vancouver, that shouldn’t be too hard to find, shm.

  40. E AKA THE REAL NORIEAGA Says:

At least Curtis didn’t film his NY video in front of a greenscreen *cough* Nasir *cough*

  41. E AKA THE REAL NORIEAGA Says:

^^smh @ shm……….I’d give you more info dude but I’m not up for puttin her shit out here on a blog, plus I don’t really want no random nigga from Nahggers to be runnin up in my ex’s!!!

Mate, fuck Chelsea and fuck Man Utd, you tell that Manc ballbag that Tottenham aka The Yid Army is whats really good.

  44. State of Grace Says:

goddamn it, that’s the second shm I’ve done today, I either need to be less blunted or more blunted. No worries about not wanting to publish shit on a blog, and I’ll let him know about the Yid Army. He doesn’t listen to rap so a few weeks ago I played him some really Southern shit and laughed my ass off because he couldn’t understand a word. I’m gone for real now

  45. Two-Times Says:

Greenscreen is actually cheaper than shutting down a whole street and getting mobile equipment to some hood…

This is for you aspiring mc’s in here:

    Hey,

I work at Slicethepie, a music company that enables unsigned Artists to raise funds to record and release an album.

We launched 4 weeks ago and already Gilkicker from Portsmouth(UK) and The Alps from London and The Skies from Reading(UK) have raised £15,000, with a lot of media attention building around them.

As part of our launch, Artists are invited to submit 3 tracks for free which will get over 50 reviews from dedicated music fans, the best rated move forward where up to 20 will receive £15,000 to record an album, which would also bring them into the spotlight with a lot of press and industry interest in them.

Due to a big demand we have opened an Arena solely for RnB/Hip Hop/Urban Artists to enter.

There are limited places for this round of financing, if you are interested you can register for free at http://www.slicethepie.com, create an artist profile and enter the RnB & Hip Hop Urban Arena 1 on the Arena tab on the site.

    Thanks for your time.

    Sarah

PS Sorry if you get this twice there is a couple of us searching the best urban artists – we may duplicate!

Really, telling the world how rich you are is inherent to Hip Hop. Busy B and Cold Crush did that shit back in the day, Rakim, Kane and G Rap did it too. But Jay’s Imaginary Player was more subtle than I Get Money. I mean, just look at the titles. Plus, Kool G Rap, Ant Live and Extra P were talking about “Money In the Bank” in 89/90 and 50 hasn’t updated that idea one bit. Totally unoriginal, and no style.

I think Kanye knows it’s politically correct to say Weezy’s the hottest right now.. He–along with every other rap fan older than 17–knows Jay’s the greatest breathing, even if he’s fallen off a bit.

Besides, if Weezy flat out said “Fuck Jay-Z”, Kanye would ride for his boss. When Jay addresses it, Kanye will fall in line. Kanye’s pop fanbase is formidable, but him stabbing Jay in the back will alienate his hip-hop fans and put him into faggot ass 50 territory.

Here’s something to think about regarding Jay. If Jay dropped an album in the late 80’s like most rappers his age would he be relevant right now?? I mean he is 37. Most rappers that old came out with their first album between 88-90. Would he be as irrelevant as LL, Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, De La? Instead of dropping in 88 he didnt’ drop til 96. I think that made a big difference in him maintaining his relevancy up until now. What do you’s think?

^I dunno man, Jay really switch it up over and over. LL came with the same ish and was mad when niggas rejcted it. Now he’s tryna switch to gangsta mode. Difference with Jay, is that he’s really good at morphin’ into whats hot at just the right time.

Right up until last year. J/k

^^ Good question. I always thought about that too. I visioned a Big Daddy Kane vs Jay-Z if it happened

    ===============================================

    Good points, good response.

Jay admitted to being heavily influenced by Kane. Jay actually appears on the posse cut “Show & Prove” with Big Skoob, Sauce Money, ODB and Shyheim from Kane’s terrible Daddy’s Home album. I can’t see they would ever have battled.

But in 88-89 Kane was my favourite MC. In 96-2001 Jay was. How was basically the new improved Kane.

    ======
I mean LL is only a year older than Jay and his first album dropped in 84. LL’s time just ran out like 8 years ago. He just expired. I think if Jay came out around that time the same would have happened to him. Jay switches it up but he manages to talk about the same thing in 100 different ways, but his content is not that vast. If Jay came out in the 80’s his reign might have ended in 96 instead of just beginning…lol.

The 500 Hats of Weezy F. Baby

This was originally crafted in response to the latest post in Billy’s Lil’ Wayne smear campaign. I was going to just post it as a comment over there, but really, I think we’d all do better to flesh out larger arguments on our blogs rather than batting wings with the fruit flies. [1] Besides I can’t floss my photoshop skills in Billy’s comments…

Billy – it appears to me that you’re more concerned with substance than style, and I can’t fault you for that matter of preference. However, there are those of us who appreciate hip hop virtuosity and hear Wayne as not an ignorant rapper who doesn’t use big enough words, but as a rapper who is focused on doing interesting and innovative things rhythmically, sometimes at the expense of content. I’ve always cringed at the but what is he saying debates in hip hop because it also calls into question centuries of non-lyrical or lightly lyrical vocal music – scatting, chanting, humming, whistling, throat singing, beatboxing, etc. This voice-as-instrument legacy is especially prevalent in black music.

It’s funny that you continuously bring up Cat In The Hat and Dr. Seuss. While those books were written with a young audience in mind, they were meticulously crafted and often beautifully absurdist. Seuss was a serious artist with a very specific grasp on language. Like Wayne, it’s often more about the interaction of the word sounds than the meaning of the words. To suggest that either of their works are simplistic or shoddily constructed is to have a very simplistic definition of complexity.

That being said, Wayne’s catalog isn’t devoid of a message. His “Hollywood Divorce” verse was a pretty interesting take on the commodification of hip hop culture and “Georgia Bush” is basically everything people who complain about rap being apolitical have been asking for. (Seuss’ work was also littered with very political overtones, but that’s a discussion for another day).

Billy sez: “Don’t we all know that sporadic means ‘occurring singly, or occasionally, or in scattered instances’? Does that word fit with someone who is supposed to be a prolific emcee? Is sporadic how you would want to describe yourself if you had a strong work ethic?”

In this context I don’t think sporadic is intended to describe his recording consistencey or work ethic, but his style of flow, which functions in irregular and seemingly unexpected rhythmic patterns. And it’s a pretty apt description of Wayne’s cadence. Listen to the first track here and tell me that doesn’t strike you as “sporadic spit.”

I know I’m well beyond the point over intellectualization in this debate. But it is what is.

Today is a great day to use your dollars to keep independent and fiercely individualistic hip hop alive. Purchase that new Devin record. Or if that’s not your thing, cop El-P’s album, which doesn’t really appeal to me personally, but is definitely a unique work from a hip hop artist.[2]

[1] Or maybe I just wanted to silence those who accuse me of not posting here enough. FYI – I meet my obligations to XXLMag.com. As much as I love this site I don’t make a habit of doing pro bono work for major corporations.

We also solicited Kanye’s own top-five picks for Hottest MCs.

“I’m only gonna accept a couple of people being ahead of me,” he said. “Only two.”

Here’s the rundown in his own words:

    · 1. Lil Wayne
    · 2. Andre 3000
    · 3. Kanye West
    · 4. T.I.
    · 5. Fabolous

And since Kanye is so rich with swagger, we also asked him to give us his top five MCs when it comes to just that: swag.

    · 1. Jim Jones
    · 2. T.I.
    · 3. Young Jeezy
    · 4. Kanye West
    · 5. Lil Wayne

While we were on a roll with the Louis Vuitton Don, he opined about our #1 and #2 Hottest MCs, as well as his own lyrical progression.

    On why Wayne is #1:

“He’s in a zone. It’s like Eminem with ‘hood records. You go to the strip clubs, they know his words all the way through. People know his records. … When he gets on tracks, he gives excitement, he has a combination of punch lines, excitement and swag. Some people got real lyrics, others have a lot of swag. He combines both. His voice cuts on the track too. His lines are real memorable as well.”

    T.I. the King:

“T.I. came from being super-lyrical, and what he’s doing right now is so easy for him. It’s so much swag. I just feel like he has the life. He can go in the studio, knock a song out in 10, 15 minutes, and do whatever he wants for the rest of the day. T.I. never overdoes it; he gives you exactly what you needed.”

    Kanye’s wordplay evolution:

“I just want to step up everything — step the videos up, step the gear up. … What [Andre] 3000 told me when he heard ‘Can’t Tell Me Nothing,’ he said, ‘I believe you.’ A lot of rappers, they say sh– they don’t believe themselves. When I’m talking, y’all believe my passion. I think it’s important to cover all bases. Even though we doing shows with 50,000 to 100,000 people, I want to have that respect in the barbershop. I want to make something where somebody driving their car, they could be like, ‘This n—a is saying something.’ My lyrics don’t be for play, they be for real. I’m talking about real sh– people could relate to. This is not no fantasy rap.”
