URB Wu-Tang Feature

Here’s that URB cover story on Wu in its entirety.

RZA speaks on 8 Diagrams and reveals that it will feature production from Marley Marl, Q-Tip, Easy Mo Bee and possibly Dr. Dre. He also says Ghost is the only clan member who hasn’t yet recorded any verses for the album.

“I told Ghost, ‘Yo, I’ll do this album without you, Ghost,’” says RZA. “‘I’ll do it without you, man, because it ain’t about you; it ain’t about me; it’s about Wu-Tang. It’s about what it means to the people. It ain’t about what it means to us no more.’”

He also says that U-God of all people is spitting the most fire out of the Wu right now, and that he is composing joints "that you can have Carnegie Hall play one day.”

Eating dog shit on toast > Wu without Ghost

    Well, maybe not.

Meth, Rae, Deck and the God GZA can carry them through an album lyrically, but Ghost would be sorely missed.

I’m kind of worried now that Ghost will phone in his 16’s, under pressure, and they’ll be bullshit.

  6. BagsDonner Says:

its not lookin good for ghost after them allegations of Superb and he aint put nothin down yet. Either Ghost shook or tryna find another style.

“How has the South dominated hip-hop for the last four, five years without lyrics, without hip-hop culture really in their blood?” RZA asks. “Those brothers came out representing more of a stereotype of how black people are, and I think the media [would] rather see us as ignorant, crazy motherfuckers than seeing us as intelligent young men trying to rise and take care of ourselves.”

    ^^^^^
My god, Rza could not have put it any better!!!!!!

    Rza = The Turth

Ghost better be on this album, his clan work is so much better than his solo work!!!!!!!!!!

Why is Ghost being a bitch for? It’s not like he’s out there promoting More Fish. They need to take it back to the days when they were recording together as a group in the studio.

Props to Rza for remembering the people.

I can’t wait for the numbers game on this album: “Well, this is our fifth album, and that’s important, because there are 5 lions that form voltron, 5 power rangers–fuck that green ni**a–, earth, wind, water, fire, and heart–5 elements that form Captain Planet.. That’s us. The Wu is the VoltronCaptainPlanetZord–and we savin’ ya’ll mufuckas.”

Also, I like U-God, always have (no homo). Based on Wu-Tang Forever (cuz that was the last time I fucked with Cap–nh again), U-God > Cappadonna.

^ What up G? I half agree. But then I remembered that the last clip of them all together that I saw had Rae screaming on U-God and Ghost looking like he’d wandered in off the street looking for crack.

That’s the best line to come from any rapper since the dawn of time.

  15. icon (trillbert arenas) Says:

    From the article-

Can Wu-Tang exist without Ghostface? In today’s world, Ghost is the Wu’s most relevant solo member. His Supreme Clientele, is widely credited as keeping the group afloat, and his recent string of prolificacy has built up the greatest body of solo work. He was also RZA’s roommate when Wu-Tang Clan was created and perhaps, most significantly, the first Clansman to unsheathe his sword on the first song of their first album.

  16. icon (trillbert arenas) Says:

That’s the best line to come from any rapper since the dawn of time.

***There are better lines on OB4CL and Illmatic…lol and j/k…

  17. icon (trillbert arenas) Says:

Remember that movie, Rhyme and Reason (or was it the Show- think it was R&R, though), when Ghost was getting aggy @ Meth in Japan, because Meth was acting like he was above the clan, and stealing the spotlight? Ghost was on some “no one man is above the crew” ish, but he was obviously kinda jelly of Meth’s solo shine….Look how the tables have turned….

  18. G7 Says:

^ What up G? I half agree. But then I remembered that the last clip of them all together that I saw had Rae screaming on U-God and Ghost looking like he’d wandered in off the street looking for crack.

^^Ghost is the most successful commercialy out of the group. When Supreme Clientelle dropped a lot of people were talking about how that album saved the group and kept them relevant. Ever since then Ghost has sorta been the member on the outside.

^ To get to the point where RZA is saying this kind of thing in interviews, something must have happened between the two of them. Face it, this is not RZA reacting to one phone call that Ghost didn’t return from yesterday. RZA must have been trying hard internally before he took the issue outside and made it public. Ghost is starting to look more Theodore Unit than Wu-Tang Clan.

    Just a theory tho’…

hummm, thats a tuff one. I think Wu-Tang would have to grab production from lesser known hip hop producers to make an album work with out RZA’s beats. Popular producers now wouldnt know what to do with Wu. Just Blaze and Alchemist is the only dude outside of RZA that can prolly handle the task.

I am sure Rza will slap in a few ol ODB verses, but Ghost has that unique voice and flow for a full Wu album. We already have concerns if this Wu comeback album will be strong, but to not have a clan member especially with Ghost, who has the most solo lps out….is not a good move. I hate to say it, being a die hard Wu fan, but they might as well not release this album. Yea it is for the people and a missing clan member should not prevent a project already in motion, but ask yourself…isnt this what the people want…a Wu comeback album….not a Wu minus Ghost comeback album.

Master P Replaces Bill Clinton as NAACP Keynote Speaker

Yesterday (July 11), former President Bill Clinton was scheduled to speak at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Mich. for an NAACP town-hall meeting. The forum, which saw more than 1,000 NAACP members attend, addressed the idea of a “new state of young Black America” and tackled issues such as poverty, education, politics and health. Clinton, who is jokingly referred to as the “first Black President,” was scheduled to be the keynote speaker, but at the last minute, he canceled his appearance. “It was on his calendar and it was on our program,” Deidre Malone of the NAACP told the Detroit News. “We are not quite sure if the NAACP got a solid confirmation that he was coming, but we got a confirmation that he won’t be able to make it here.” So who did the NAACP find as a replacement? Master P, of course. According to the Detroit Free Press, the No Limit founder talked to the audience about becoming strong Black leaders and placing value in education. “Don’t be afraid to make a change,” P said. “I come from the ghetto. I’m a living witness that you can make it.” Master P also addressed the controversy surrounding hip-hop lyrics, telling the audience that hip-hop needs to be fixed but it shouldn’t be used as a cop out for African-American’s social problems. “I was once part of the problem,” P said. “But I realized, by having kids, that if I’ve got to get in the car and turn down my own music, something is wrong and I’ve got to fix it.”

G.U.R.U.- underrated as a lyricist, but it’s primarily his fault for that JAZZAMA-AZZ bullshit….(First volume was aiight, but…) I was just listening to Daily Operation last night, and I was telling my cuzzo how that shit doesn’t sound anywhere near 15 years old…

You can’t tell me life was meant to be like this
a black man in a world dominated by whiteness
Ever since the declaration of independence
we’ve been easily brainwashed by just one sentence
It goes: all men are created equal
that’s why corrupt governments kill innocent people
With chemical warfare they created crack and AIDS
got the public thinking these were things that black folks made
And every time there’s violence shown in the media
usually it’s a black thing so where are they leading ya
To a world full of ignorance, hatred, and prejudice
TV and the news for years they have fed you this
foolish notion that blacks are all criminals
violent, low lifes, and then even animals
I’m telling the truth so some suckers are fearing me
but I must do my part to combat the conspiracy
The S.A.T. is not geared for the lower class
so why waste time even trying to pass
The educational system presumes you to fail
the next place is the corner then after that jail
You’ve got to understand that this has all been conspired
to put a strain on our brains so that the strong grow tired
It even exists when you go to your church
cuz up on the wall a white Jesus lurks
They use your subconscious to control your will
they’ve done it for a while and developed the skill
to make you want to kill your own brother man
black against black you see it’s part of their plan
They want to send us to war and they want to ban rap
what they really want to do is get rid of us blacks
Genocide is for real and I hope that you’re hearing me
you must be aware to combat the conspiracy
Even in this rap game all that glitters ain’t gold
now that rap is big business the snakes got bold
They give you wack contracts and try to make you go pop
cuz they have no regard for real hip-hop
They’ll compare you to others and say: “but yo, he sells”
and you know in your heart that he’s weak as hell
So you say: “I ain’t doing that corny stuff”
but they tell ya that your chart positions will go up
Sometimes they front big time and make you many promises
and when they break ’em then your mama says
“Son you’re making records but that guy seems shady”
it could be too late and your career could be played gee
I hope you listen to the things that I’m sharing see
we all have a job to combat the conspiracy

^Ty… you’ve probably picked my most favorite Mos Def song EVER! Like… I don’t know what it is… but it seems that Mos was just flawless on there… his flow mixed with his singing (not to mention the hook was borrowed from a reggae song) was a ill combination. No other harmonizing MC could pull off what he did on Travelin’ Man. Plus the concept was dope. Honda went in on that beat.

Speakin’ of which, the Ranjahz (from Jay’z Hard Knock Life album) got a song with the same beat featuring C-Lo on the hook. It’s actually a pretty good song.

From open mics to solutions I got a collage of answers
and a ten point program, just like the Black Panthers
One: First respect yourself as an artist
If you don’t respect yourself then your rhymes is garbage
Two: Make sure your crew is as tight as you
cause when them niggaz fallin off they gonna bring you down too
Three: Understand the meaning of MC
The power to Move the Crowd like Moses split the seas
Four: Know your shit and don’t ever be blunted
If you don’t know what your words mean then your rhymes mean nothin
Five: Kick facts in the raps, and curse with clarity
What’s a curse when language is immersed in vulgarity
Six: We gonna fix industrial poli-tricks
Shit they made an artform out of ridin dicks
Seven: We soldiers for God needin new recruits
So if you rhymin for the loot then youse a prostitute
but Eight: Acknowledge that you need food on your plate
In order to say your grace make sure your business is straight
Nine: We buildin black minds with intelligence
and when you freestyle, keep the subject matter relevant
Ten: Every MC grab a pen
and write some concious lyrics to tell the children
I’ll say it again, every MC find you a pen
And drop some concious shit for our children
    The Manifesto!

tell me that shits not even more relevant today

SMH @ sensitive thugs who need hugs….

    A gate-crasher’s change of heart
Gunman bursts into party, tastes cheese and wine, gets hug, then leaves
    By Allison Klein
    The Washington Post
    Updated: 5:47 a.m. ET July 13, 2007
WASHINGTON – A grand feast of marinated steaks and jumbo shrimp was winding down, and a group of friends was sitting on the back patio of a Capitol Hill home, sipping red wine. Suddenly, a hooded man slid in through an open gate and put the barrel of a handgun to the head of a 14-year-old guest.

“Give me your money, or I’ll start shooting,” he demanded, according to D.C. police and witness accounts.

The five other guests, including the girls’ parents, froze — and then one spoke.

“We were just finishing dinner,” Cristina “Cha Cha” Rowan, 43, blurted out. “Why don’t you have a glass of wine with us?”

The intruder took a sip of their Chateau Malescot St-Exupéry and said, “Damn, that’s good wine.”

The girl’s father, Michael Rabdau, 51, who described the harrowing evening in an interview, told the intruder, described as being in his 20s, to take the whole glass. Rowan offered him the bottle. The would-be robber, his hood now down, took another sip and had a bite of Camembert cheese that was on the table.

    ‘Can I get a hug?’
Then he tucked the gun into the pocket of his nylon sweatpants.

“I think I may have come to the wrong house,” he said, looking around the patio of the home in the 1300 block of Constitution Avenue NE.

“I’m sorry,” he told the group. “Can I get a hug?”

Rowan, who lives in Falls Church and works part time at her children’s school, stood up and wrapped her arms around him. Then it was Rabdau’s turn. Then his wife’s. The other two guests complied.

“That’s really good wine,” the man said, taking another sip. He had a final request: “Can we have a group hug?”

The five adults surrounded him, arms out.

With that, the man walked out with a crystal wine glass in hand, filled with Chateau Malescot. No one was hurt, and nothing was stolen.

The homeowner, Xavier Cervera, 45, had gone out to walk his dog at the end of the party and missed the incident, which happened about midnight June 16. Police classified the case as strange but true and said they had not located a suspect.

“We believe it is a true robbery,” said Cmdr. Diane Groomes, who is in charge of patrols in the Capitol Hill area. But it’s one-of-a-kind, she said, adding, “I’ve never heard of a robber joining a party and then walking out to the sunset.”

The hug, she said, was especially unusual. “They should have squeezed him and held onto him for us,” she said.

Rabdau said he hasn’t been able to figure out what happened.

“I was definitely expecting there would be some kind of casualty,” Rabdau said this week. “He was very aggressive at first; then it turned into a love fest. I don’t know what it was.”

Was it the wine or the cheese?
Rabdau, a federal government worker who lives in Anne Arundel County with his family and lived on Capitol Hill with his wife in the 1980s, said that the episode lasted about 10 minutes but seemed like an hour. He believes the guests were spared because they kept a positive attitude during the exchange.

“There was this degree of disbelief and terror at the same time,” Rabdau said. “Then it miraculously just changed. His whole emotional tone turned — like, we’re one big happy family now. I thought: Was it the wine? Was it the cheese?”

After the intruder left, the guests walked inside the house, locked the door and stared at each other. They didn’t say a word. Rabdau dialed 911. Police arrived quickly and took a report. They also dusted for fingerprints — so far, to no avail.

In the alley behind the home, investigators found the intruder’s empty crystal wine glass on the ground, unbroken.

    From XXL:

Yonkers born rapper Jadakiss and two associates will go to trial in Westchester County, NY over weapons possession charges they picked up in October 2006 in their hometown of Yonkers. Kiss and friends Darnell Frazier and Kristian Smith were charged with third degree criminal possession of a weapon after Yonkers police stopped a car they were riding in. After claiming they smelled marijuana, police searched the vehicle and discovered a handgun. According to The Journal News, prosecutors have decided to move forward with the case, even though DNA tests performed on the weapon revealed that three different men had handled it. A fourth occupant of the vehicle, which belonged to Frazier’s girlfriend, testified before a grand jury and was not indicted. “He had no knowledge of the gun in the car,” said Jada’s lawyer, Clement Patti. “They’re saying that there’s a presumption [of possession]…but with no fingerprints, [other people’s] DNA, in the interest of justice they should dismiss the charges.” The case is currently scheduled for trial assignment.
