^ I was thinkin’ the same thing, lol. And that was also one of my favorite MJ songs. I like how he got his name and album title written in Arabic script, payin’ homage to his religion. That’s kinda ill.

one of the reasons that hip hop became watered down is the fact that artists had to appeal to a wider audience so instead of 10 bangers on one disc its only 2 or 3 and for my demographic and 2 for radio, 2 for another demographic females or whatever
that bein said this Lupe kid must be on some real “in my hood” type shit …and that may be good for hip hop …and I know lil homey can spit…but I really dont understand the hype aboout this dude

^ Charli Baltimore ruined that sample to the point where no one in hip hop wanted to use it afterwards.

With the title of his album, I expected to see Lupe eating a slice of deep dish pizza, drinking a Bud lite on the cover? Instead this looks like some when space niggaz attack type ish! Whatever though. I can care less about the album cover, it’s the music that counts. Hopefully, the album is tight?

You see. Hip hop used to be about originality..

Not anymore.. Nowadays it is about biting.. Most Companies want to put out someone who sounds like someone already cause they think, if that guy sold, their new clone will sell too…

Im not saying Lupe cant flow, or that he doesnt have lyrics, but DAMN he is on JAY’s dick so HARD.. (no homo?)

I mean, every time I hear him for more than 10 seconds I have to shit off the song cause it get pissed… He sounds to me like he is trying his hardest to sound like JAY..

He swagger Jacked Jay HARD as hell.. if this dude was doing his thing and had his own VOICE and style it would be hot, but until he hops off Jay’s balls, I have to call a BOYCOTT..

Can you imagine telling HABIB from the bodega to “watch my skateboard son”..while you go cop 2 dutchies?

  31. Street Jamz Says:

Lupe seems like he has his own thing going on. Comparing him to Jay seems like a stretch? I mean I could agree with that scenario of Shyne & Guerilla Black trying to capitalize on the Biggie’s sound, but Lupe doesn’t seem to immulate Jay to that degree.

JAY – Z owns LUPE or should we Call him LUPUS..

You see, Jay owns stock in him, like howard stern does in serius radio…

When LUPUS starts to make that paper, JAY gets his cut, SO.. Jay uses his connects and gets shit poppin for this dude..

Now I cant hate on that.. and I did admit this dude has skill, but like I said, he isnt playing right…

Due to his nerdiness and potential marketability he got JAY on board..

it might work, it might not, but THIS dude is a puppet right now..

Until he does something to stand on his own 2 feet, I aint fuckin with this dude..

I would rather listen to Sean Price..

    or Ali Vegas..

or about 1,000,000,000 other dudes.. its just sad how the game goes, but I guess its real.. The real never wins, always the fakeness…

i aint knockin it. Alot of people r saying rap is whack, but its not, its just a change of generations. everyone in their life goes thru a period where they get old and leave something behind. Like wrestling for example…well that happens with hip-hop but we’re to ignorant to even say something other than “he’s whack cuz he sounds like…”.

Hip-Hop belongs to the new generation..and i gladly gave it up. im about to give up on the hood in general in a second…shits looking bleek…fuck these niggaz.

If he wasnt down with Jay he wouldnt be shit.. I KNOW 100 dudes on that nerd rap shit as nice as him.. But bottom line is, HE HAS NO IDENTITY of his own in his music and is living off mad hype.. Wich is cool too.. Im not hating, Im just pointing out that he is a puppet and not bringing much to the table..

…the sixties were even more creative…the 70’s is when the business aspect of music started to intervene into the creative process, because the biting did begin, there were several groups that would bite EarthWind& Fire….male singers were starting to mimic the vocal stylings and mannerisms of James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and Donny Hathaway….the famale artists were becoming Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Chaka Khan clones….and every group or solo act had to have a “disco” song regardless of their own genre…the sixties was the last time music was void of the creative pigeonholing that exists today…black acts were heard on white radio and vice versa….(c) Jimi Hendrix, Isaac Hayes, Bob Marley, James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, Aretha Franklin, Motown…

Filthy why you so mad at Lupe though? You tight cuz he got a deal with a major and you still posting your Myspace link?

    ^^^^^^

Thats a good one Eskay.. Way to try and get at me..

Im not mad.. I know whats good with LUPE.. he came to the studio and wrote 2 bars in 3 days..

I had a deal with ATLANTIC this year.. It didnt work out in the end cause I wouldnt rap like Paul Wall..

Im good with mine.. I just dont like the hype on someone who I dont feel deserves it… I mean, if you work from the bottom up you deserve all the benifits you get with it..

But this dude is walking the easy route right now, some say he deserves some might not…

To tell you the truth, this dude aint even fuckin with KANYE as a rapper.. Kanye really opened the door for this dude..

Kanye deserved it.. He busted his ass.. This guy is living off that, then on top of that I dont think he is bringing anything new to the game..

Im sure he is dope, I have heard he is great, but like I said, theyre are alot of talented rappers out there who aint getting the CHANCES he is getting.. (because of affiliation) (marekablity) and other things, Like Jay owning part of him..

^all the artist you mentioned made their greatest work in the seventies. Motown in the sixties was a machine and repeated itself often. Stevie Wonder in the seventies was greater than Stevie Wonder in the sixties. Same for Bob Marley, EWF, JB, Sly etc

^ I see your point, but if you nice, you nice. There are plenty of cats who tried the Kanye/Lupe route and they SUCK at it. Just so happens that they were nice at what they do. Nobody said that the labels didn’t PURPOSELY look for these cats. Both had Jay as a co-sign which helped a LOT. But does that take away from the artistry? Not at all chief. I know good music when I hear it. I’m still waitin’ for Jay to co-sign Jean Grae so that the dick riders will finally recognize her skills and she can get that exposure.

Jean Grae lyrics to “No Doubt”

    I ain’t afraid to shine different.. c’mon

Devoted life to the dream of lights and fortune and fame
I might just gain the vision, or just might be livin in vain
See in the game it’s cool strolls and platinum thugs
Stack the cash, drugs and women ; bubble in crime, trouble in time
I stay humble with mine, had drama for words
Encountered some birds who tried to take the shine
But I’m illuminatin like a thousand frozen wrists in the glint of the sun
Worth the Franklin Mint and Wall Street combined into one
They can’t see it yet though, different like niggaz sayin petrol
for gas, english metric system, graded on the past
Just tryin to reach y’all, no one’s at my arms length
Wanna stay in the race but slowly runnin out of breath
They all alike, can’t understand, maybe it’s safest
to play the role and be another glitch in The Matrix
    Repetitive flow, embedded in dough
I run the risk of pissin everybody off, but I don’t care if you know

    – Jean Grae – chorus
Yo I’m on the line like white, china, table
Lay it all out for the shit ; nigga, no, doubt
Fuck real, I’m right, told you the last time man
    Fuck y’all, say it
Bring it, lay it all out for the shit ; nigga, no, doubt
Fuck real, I’m right, told you the last time
    Things ain’t different, say it
    Bring it, I’m on, now

    – Jean Grae –
Quit for good, too many times, shit maybe I should
But it won’t prevent rejection reappearin in life
I even lay the toughest down for you
Paint the ground blood pink for you, only so that you feel me right
Then hear me tight from the ills perhaps
But not a lot of scenes like movie stills are fleein from fiends and caps
I had, thrills and high spills, couple of hot chases
Romance with Jacks, Jills in dirty places
No jail cell been filled and no court cases
But committed murder of flesh, two of my own faces
At best I’m, a dime each, not a dozen, never cheap
Fornicated adultery once and now I never cheat
Younger sibling or two, family disfunctional
Problem with bein on time, hardly ever punctual
Punchclocks give me the runs, just not in my blood Akki
Y’all flashin guns at me, time to go ? Let it be

    – Jean Grae – chorus
Yo I’m on the line like white, china, table
Lay it all out for the shit ; nigga, no, doubt
Fuck real, I’m right, told you the last time man
    Fuck y’all, say it
Bring it, lay it all out for the shit ; nigga, no, doubt
Fuck real, I’m right, told you the last time
    Things ain’t different, say it
    Bring it, I’m on, now

    – Jean Grae –
See I got these bill collectors, practically at the door chillin
I can’t explain to Visa how I’m tryin to stack a million
Hustle on the side for chump change, it’s not big time
I only do it for fries, chicken and wine and hump days
Reality spit, dudes and rap bitches sick of me
And if they right, they still print, I’m tryin to do calligraphy
All real, sit up just all night, just thinkin it’s all wrong
    Won’t sleep ’til everything’s alright
I made brush fire noise ; I need four alarm
Three A.M. on the lawn with two kids and one slipper on
Blaze now, your days phase out like old sitcoms
Tryin to save the show by puttin new fuckin kids on
Love me or not, respect it for what it’s worth
I’m like a bundle of dough in a knot in a purse under your cot
Undiscovered lines like connectin the dots
It’s gonna happen, sooner or later
    Fuck rappin, just givin data

    – Jean Grae – chorus
Yo I’m on the line like white, china, table
Lay it all out for the shit ; nigga, no, doubt
Fuck real, I’m right, told you the last time man

I’d be willing to bet my left nut that most of you motherfuckers have some secret interest that you’d never let on to anyone cause it might ruin your whole “thug” persona and put you in a different light as a real person. 231. Big Meat Says:

Yall Just don’t get it. And Honestly you all never will. Remember “Back to the Future”, Voltron, Transformers, Thunder Cats. Lupe is taking you back. This is one of the first real artist to come out in a while. Talking about his life which is like most. You don’t look to be killers and thieves, or pimps and hoes. But growing up you look at your imagination. Use that Imagination thing that God gave you. In the Words of Napoleon Dynaminte “Gosh”

  232. fuck down south Says:

Lupe is not a gangsta rapper! He is not like any rapper dude out.He is different and I respect that.

  233. boston bishez Says:

  234. earth-mc'aden Says:

the cover is kinda fruity and it does remind me of MJ, but i still respect this nigga’s music. i mean at least he has the damn mothafuckin guts to be himself which a lot of rapper from now are missing.it gets tiring when you see all the rappers w/ the same gangsta/thug/hustla attitude, likeif they copying from each other.sometimes change is a good thing unless the person is maaaaad wack.

  235. KNONAM Says:

You kids gotta be about the fuckin dumbest bunch of no nothing about hiphop I ever heard in my life. why you ask? because all you do is complain.
“Oh, the cover wah wah cry.” The cover is really tight if you ask me..
You would rather have him eating a slice a pizza and drinking a bud light?
like I said.. Kids. Your the reason for this hip hop crash and burn.
Fuck off. I wish I could stand you all in a line then put a bullet though the person in front, hoping it passes through all of you..

  236. Let.It.Be. Says:

The cover is very well done. It reflects Lupe’s personality, his influences and his interests. I don’t think it is meant to impress, but to reflect, as it should. Besides, it allows you a glimpse into the other world of hip hop, the one that holds quality and originality in high esteem, as opposed to the quantity, excess, and violence that mainstream hip hop sells to the masses. The whole point of music is expression and if you do not respect someone for their expression, including how they want to present their cover, then just close your eyes and cover your ears. Hip hop is not about conformity. Criticism is good, but not when it is tainted with disrespect. Also, listen to the music first, then look at the cover again and you will see that they go hand in hand, there is no discrepancy between what the visual reveals and what the music reveals. (P.S. Sorry for being so corny.)
