Emmis Broadcasting wins a small battle in the fight to evict Hot 97

Someone explain to me exactly how $19,000 is considered a reasonable monthly child support payment.

Sure Tool and Pearl Jam beat out Mobb Deep for the the #1 and 2 spots on Billboard, but hey at least Hav and P surpassed the High School Musical Soundtrack!

  3. Foekist Says:

Oh my goodness. This might bring the return of Sweet Booty Luis. I think he’s been silently awaiting the numbers to be released.

  4. Foekist Says:

$19,000 a month is ridiculous. They CAN’T have a healthy friendship after this. She probably don’t care. Man, this is like a crime. Our judicial system has SO many holes. Since when does the amount of bread the father of a child makes determine how much is needed to support a child that doesn’t even live with him?

  5. Bhopal Says:

19 G’s a month. Bitches be gettin away wit murder.

Hot 97 is a joke nowadays, and has anyone else noticed how much Power 105 be dissin them all day long?

That new 50 feat. Mobb album is trash, if they are lucky it will go gold by next summer. Everybody that was gonna buy it, got already so expect sales to come a fuckin halt.

  6. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Fuck the rap game, child support is the best hustle in the country right now. No child NEEDS $19,000 a month. I think Justin is like 13 or 14, so that means he will have giving her over 1.5 million by the time Justin is 21. This DOES NOT include schooling, medical expenses, etc. Shit got me mad.

  7. Bugsytheboss Says:

BLOODMONEY is #3 on the Billboard and #1 on the hiphop charts is not bad for some underground niggas who only went platinum once after 9 albums

  8. el_feces_loco Says:

buck fush..the whole clan of them…

  9. Foekist Says:

And I agree that Hot 97 either need to get their act together or bounce. Their putting other people’s lives in jeopardy. There’s no way you can have multiple SHOOTINGS take place at a got damn radio station and not do anything about it.

  10. Plug industries AKA the Regulator Says:

I was thinking the same thing. Why would someone have to pay child support like that if he taking care of his. I wonder if he was to only gives the mother a credit card to kids r us and toys r us and the local grocery store would that be legal. This way the money is guaranteed to go only to the child.

  11. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

foe- yea but do you think he’s happy with that or not, i mean everyone of the stans were predicting @ 250,000 shit t.i. did 500,000 in his first week g-unit stans live and die by soundscan i cant see that being close to enough to make them happy.

yo that master hip-hop culture is whatsup. in SOME forms of hip-hop theres lots of knowledge to be gained and passed on

  12. Sour D. Says:

i been too busy to post but i’m loving the mobb news. not cause i wanna see mobb sleep fail because really, i don’t care. i just wanna see the gunit stans cry. i wanna see what excuses they can use to come back from this.

“The rap veterans’ first release for 50 Cent’s G-Unit Records outsold the soundtrack to the Disney Channel original movie “High School Musical,” which moved 94,000 copies”

i mean damn, 106,000. they didn’t even hit the 110k that people were low balling. fucking embarrasing for any gunit fan that is always talking about sales.

look at this dude making excuses. excuse me did you just call mobb deep underground???? wow they might not of been commercial but even when they were brand new they werent underground ( i guess you probably think they are backpack rappers now to huh? )your fucking reatarded so them doing the same types of number buddens did when they have had an established fan base for a decade and are under the g-unit machine meanwhile you slam buddens for his sales but he went gold off one single no promotion and no one every hearing of him.

yea your right not bad for 2 underground rappers everyone knows and has been in the game for over a decade fucking clown

thats cause they heard the album and they were probably amazed that 100 people would go buy it.

They didn’t have a single and no extras on the CD. At least Yayo had a couple of singles and videos.

This album had no momentum at all. I didn’t hear any singles on the album. I thought that 50 would have made sure of that. At this rate one of them are going to have to get shot to go gold.

  20. Dro410 Says:

I know one thing for sure, there is no way in hell that another Bush should be allowed into the office.

  21. Bugsytheboss Says:

They will go gold and make a ton of money on tour. And dont sleep because Banks is coming next and that album should put them back to platinum status.Besides everybody knows Mobb Deep was a gamble as far as sales show but i still wanted to see them shine.

And for P.Diddy fuck’em he need to pay 19,000 a month.Thats pocket change for this dude. Were talking about Mr.Puffy who blows 10,000 in one night at the club on chris and shit.

And keep hot97 on the map.Just put more cameras up so we can see better on the shoot outs.(LOL)

  22. Sour D. Says:

bugsy, you were just talking abotu how they are gonna kill sales. how they will sell so much more than (according to you) backpacker joe buddens. stop being in denial. the gunit machine is becoming outdated and obsolete. didn’t you hear banks last album that got leaked. i’ve heard evelator music that was better. they’re done. and it will all be confirmed when 50 makes another album and it sells 2mil. only then will you realize the failure that you support because any other artist that flops, you will have an excuse for them.

  23. TYRONEBIGGUMS Says:

i love how bugsy is making excuses for them they will make tons of money on tour. but he calls everybody else in hip-hop broke the dudes that have been touring for a decade ( yea they might not do stricly stadium concerts but thats only 50 the rest of them still have to rock the clubs from time to time ) they aint gonna be making all that much more money of touring than the lox or fat joe or anyone does 50 yea but they after selling like this ive already told you they OWE 50 money on the advance

  24. Kev Says:

My mother raised me on 40,000 a year in the hood and I came out good. That bitch don’t need 19,000 to raise and support that kid. Puffy should request monthly statements of were the money is being spent monthly from that bitch.

and you cant understand a damn word he says that mushmouth motherfucker *

  26. Sour D. Says:

its crazy that puff was paying the highest amount paid in child support in U.S. history. jeezy shouldn’t be complaining. but on the real, it makes no sense. and its a common thing. fathers pay crazy money in child support and barely 20% of that goes to the child. i speak from personal experience of seeing my boy’s daughter tell him that she needs new clothes meanwhile he is paying $2000/mo in child support. its disgusting that these bitches use there kids as a source of income.

  27. Tiffany Says:

As a single female parent myself, no way does she deserve that much money, and only if she can supply him with 19,000 a month too. I thought it was equal parenting, not just the father taking care of him. That money should just go into a trust fund for him, because she should equally be able to live off the 19,000 a month that she is contributing!!!!!!!!

  28. KonishiwaBitches Says:

19,000 shit thats why u gotta be cool with your babymoms

  29. Sour D. Says:

and nobody is voting for jeb bush. forget that his family are a bunch of rich fuck ups. the man made it legal to body someone in florida so long as “you felt threatened”. now i lived in broward county in florida. my first week living there, i almost got smashed by a car and cop cars in a chase. the last thing that state needs is a redneck fuck making it OK to kill someone so long as you use the classic south park line “He’s comin right for us!!”

  30. Bugsytheboss Says:

    Tyronebiggums says,
you slam buddens for his sales but he went gold off one single no promotion

It only took him a year in a half GTFOH with that buttons talk cuzz nobody aint tryin to hear it. Eskay can’t even make a joe buddens thread platinum(100 hits)so stop hyping that nigga cuzz he is a NON-FACTOR in the rap game.

  31. ONE Says:

I dont know what the big deal is… Outta all people, Diddy had it coming. I mean, He can use the lox money to pay for this shit. Or the money he saved by not paying Shynes lawyers

  32. Bugsytheboss Says:

And for you Sour D. you act like G-Unit aint been running the rap game since 2002 dumb fuck. These other niggas is playin catch up because the money is made already. The whole click is caked up,they just trying to re-invent they style cuzz the game is so fucked up that people hating on 50 while the south is blowing up taking all the sales with this waterdown laffy taffy bullshit.

  33. T. Okes Says:

That’s why I don’t leave the crib without a hat haha. I don’t give a fuck. Niggas go out & come back with the monster or a baby they don’t want and still don’t fuckin’ learn. Pussy’s a hell of a drug. Hard to fight it sometimes, but I never let a girl think she can have her way ’cause of her puss…that’s how niggas get whipped right from the start.

And goddamn @ M-O-B-B, comin’ in with 106,000….I can’t believe I predicted 220k, and I felt I was bein’ realistic. Like we were talkin’ about last week, $2/album is a generous amount from a record label to the artist….and they cut that in half since there’s obviously two of ’em in the group…y’all do the math…

  34. iceberg slim Says:

Sheeit, that won’t always help. Think about it. “Hmmmm, $20 -35k a month, or be Puffy’s widdle fwind.”

    Nuff said.

  36. Sour D. Says:

bugsy, i don’t care about sales. the first time i cared was with this mobb album and it was because you were hyping it up saying its goin plat. and gunit has been running the COMMERCIAL game since 2003 and already dying off. ja rule had a longer career and he’s been getting hated on since his debut on the jay single (at least by me). the way you talk about gunit is the way someone would argue whether or not britney spears could sing. saying that people might hate her but she’s makin mad sales. NO ONE FUCKING CARES. figure out a new argument. no one cares how much money they have. i don’t care how big there houses are. and if you really wanna talk money, 50 is the only one with dough. the money they are currently making supports the lifestyle they have. in 07 or 08 when the gunit machien finally breaks down forever, these dudes will have a modest apartment in jersey and will be telemarketing for $10/hr to make there rent. and the reason they’ll be in jersey is because they’re no longer welcome in their hood or anywhere in ny for that matter..

    ———

Valid point. However just like in movies, record sales are often about momentum, and the first week is always a pretty good method of measuring how the rekidz gonna do overall.

  38. Sour D. Says:

True story. It’s called dick control. Just like everything else, being successful with women requires discipline. If you can learn to dictate when THEY get some, vs. vice versa, you got her where you want her. Females will start asking YOU for some, verses the other way around (and the way it usually is).

  41. G-town G Says:

Damn that child support bullshit is ridiculous man.

They be actually excited about becoming a martyr for the destruction of Israel. It’s amazing how mind control works. I can’t imagine… They believe that when they die they will go to heaven and have 7 virgins wives, or something like that.

Basically what I’m saying, is Bugsy, why don’t you sign up?

  53. Sour D. Says:

i was talking more about banks and yayo than mobb or MOP. and your saying that we’re backstabbing??? first of all, i don’t got alot of love for the south. i like some shit but very very little so don’t say that i take whatever music the south throws at me. second, you said that we don’t support new york rappers. us not supporting 50 is like atlanta not supporting D4L. its not backstabbing, its disagreeing with what certain artists are turning hiphop into a gimmicky pop machine.

  68. Bird Says:

    Check this out poor people……

How do you think the children of Sean Combs should live? I’ll tell you how:

    Private School – 10k/month
    Nanny – 3k/month
Food (dining in and out) – 500/month
    Clothes – 10k/month
    Entertainment – 5k/month
    Mortgage – 5k/month
    Car note – 1k/month

19k is 228k a year out of something like 20 mil this dude takes home after taxes. I’d bet cash money he spends more than that on clothes and jewelry. Do you expect his kids to be in public school and living in a normal neighborhood and wearing the same clothes more than a few times? That is not how wealthy people live. Now if Diddy doesn’t believe Misa is going to spend the money right then he needs to fight for custody. If he don’t want lil man then he has to pay for him to live just as well as he does. Don’t look at it from your broke ass prospective. Look at it from his.

  69. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Why would he be paying her mortgage and note? What kid you know needs 10k/month on clothes? The broad got two other kids in the house as well, so diddy got to pay for them too?

  70. G-town G Says:

    Bird
What the fuck private school costs 10K a month? Thats krazy to me but I live in Texas I kould see maybe a Grand at the most.
Why the fuck would he need a nanny and he 12 years old? If his moms is a good woman he shouldnt need that niggas dont need to be living on some ole Mr. Belvedere type shit!
And I would want my son smart but not like one of them preppie ass lil punks anyway.

And who exactly will be driving this car that costs 1K a month? Child support is child support not baby mama support and the fuckin attorney generals be gettin out of hand wit that bullshit

  71. G-town G Says:

Yea Milwaukeee I aint even get to the mortgage nor did I know she had 2 other kids. Thats another damn good point

  72. G-town G Says:

MY BAD FOR YELLIN BUT SHIT iM SO FUCKIN TIRED OF MUFUCKAS TRYIN TO SELL ME SHIT TO LEARN HOW TO MAKE MONEY.

WTF? I BET PPL FALL FOR THAT SHIT TOO I GET LIKE 10 LETTERS A DAY IN THE MAIL BOUT THAT SHIT

  73. KonishiwaBitches Says:

the 19,000 is already ontop of him paying for school and medical and shit his sean combs shorty get clothes for free

  74. G-town G Says:

Another good point! Why the fuck would he need 10K for clothes and his pops fuckin makes clothes… I see I aint the only one thinkin like this

  75. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

So on top of the support she gets from Diddy, she will most likely be getting alimony and child support from her ex-husband(who is an executive in the industry). If she getting $3000 a head for the other 2, plus the $19000 from Diddy, she at $25000 a month. That means a year she will bring home about $300000 in support income, plus the 150000-200000 she makes from her business.

GRAND TOTAL: $500,000-Most of this without leaving her home.

  76. Plug industries AKA the Regulator Says:

like the skit on the lox cd “we’ll be rapin you rapin you rapin you……”

  77. G-town G Says:

And thats bullshit. All that money to take kare of kids when thats what the fuck u supposed to be doin anyway. But this is the thing, she was already gettin a decent amount but NO, this wasnt enough for her she needed more. Thats shit is just greed rite there, and if u makin that much on your own u dont need that much anyways

  78. Foekist aka The Cosigner Says:

Plug, exactly. That’s why it could be karma comin back on his azz.

  79. G-town G Says:

They got money in addition to the cars and what about the recording budget??? They were running around saying they got 2 mil for that (I’m sure they were exaggerating, but still).

I know that Mobb has to re-coup the money back to the label, but it’s not like this is turning out to be a financial success for 50.

  84. G-town G Says:

Whats up wit that name Maddenmaster? U supposed to be kold in Madden or something? NIgga Ill merk yo ass wit them Kolts boy

  85. G-town G Says:

  86. MaddenMaster Says:

I WILL SHUT THAT SHIT DOWN

  87. G-town G Says:

That was last week. And whatever they sold good for them but I still dont fuck wit them or any other G-unit affiliates. I kant even say Ill be jammin them when they finish wit Gay-unit if they not on there for the rest of their lives which I suppose they would be since they gettin tattoos and shit

  88. G-town G Says:

    Who u ball wit Madden?

  89. kaostx Says:

First of all, he is PAYING his girlfriend, the broad he actually lives with similiar amounts in child support. so why is one of his children worthy and not the other. In every state child support is a % of the non custodial parents income, why should he be any different. I personally saw the dude throw 5k in the air everynight during all-star and he has a problem giving that kind of money to his kid! Men kill talking about what is actually spent on their kids. If the woman didnt have kid to take care of she could use that money to do whatever she wants to do. she wouldnt need the extra bedroom that results in more rent or mortgage. Men act like women are dropping down on benzes of their little ass child support. the only people that can are the ones that have a baby by a super paid dude. i do believe they can be cool, hell he still with kim and he paying her like that as well. Actually that was part of what prompted Misa to go and get her money because of what Kim was awarded. That man will never feel that payment. Your child should live the same lifestyle that their parents live. A parent should feel guilty dropping the child off at some 5th floor walkup apt when he gets back in the bentley headed to his mansion in the suburbs. Misa makes money but dont forget we are talking about NY, one of the most (if not the most expensive) real estate markets in the country. Stop complaining. That man has plenty of cash. He wont miss one meal. If he’s hungry he can just stop by the restaurant named after Misa’s son.

  90. MaddenMaster Says:

    ANYBODY!!! I’M NICE LIKE THAT

  91. kaostx Says:

I bet the attorneys filing the appeal gets more money a year than Justin.

recording cost is not that bad when u own the studio (material recorded on tour bus cross seas) almost every guest appearance is g-unit and marketing and promotion they will recoup or its still a biz expense aka cost of business operation……

  93. D. Billz Says:

“Yall dont see the BIG picture..this is puffys son..he aint goin to Joe Clark High, he goin to Snobnose Academy, nigga need a driver, security, a nanny or “manny” to help him pick out his glasses, spray his clothes with unforgivable and hold a umbrella over his head, nigga need Pro active, his mini shiny suits dry cleaned, he need toothpicks, tapdance lessons, he gotta buy out the snack bar in school..this is Puffy’s first born man…he need all that cake.”

    ^ Fuckin’ hilarious.

  94. iceberg slim Says:

and I know everyone saying mobb eep aint selling shit…..but truth be told noboy miving records in n.y…….come to think about it…this might be the highest debut for a n.y artist since 50…..which was about two years ago…..oh and tony yayo…am I wrong?

  95. MaddenMaster Says:

    Yayo did 220 first week

  96. G-town G Says:

Madden I hate when niggas say that shit Im not an average madden player man u may wanna pick someone u kan actually ball wit so u dont make no excuses when u get yo ass whooped.
If I beat u tho, u kan neva go back to jammin G-unit again.
U win Ill jam nothin but G-unit all week including Olivia…. LMAO
Just kiddin kuz I actually lost I would probably commit suicide after 1 day of that shit

  97. Filth Says:

how many units did the mobb move??

  98. D. Billz Says:

$19K/month is fuckin’ ridiculous. What’s crazy is that it was reduced from 30K. I remember when I heard that I damn near flipped. That was the topic of discussion on every urban radio station. That’s some peoples’ salary in a year. This child support shit is way outta hand. And didn’t Kim Porter have a baby by Uni-Brow aka Al B. Sure!? Damn, them Mt. Vernon niggas must be suckas for love, lol. Just kiddin’.

Btw, for those of you who think that Al-Queda, Jihad, or any Arab had something to do with 9/11 obviously didn’t see the “Loose Change” documentary. I encourage all of you to watch that and if your perception doesn’t change then you’ll never understand. Word to William M. Cooper!

  99. G-town G Says:

And what happened after that first week Madden? He aint sell too many more after that did he…

  100. D. Billz Says:

Yayo moved more than Mobb the first week? Well, his single with 50 was being played everywhere so that does make sense. And the video birthed the vixen we all know as Buffy “I’m Still a Stripper” The Body.

  101. G-town G Says:

    @D.Billz
I havent seen that shit homie but my brother sent me a message with like pics from the Pentagon and it was sayin a plane didnt even hit that mug. There was no plane wreckage or nothin and it was rite after it happened. Strange shit so I feel what u sayin Im gonna have to check that out

  104. G-town G Says:

Buffie the Body been hot ever since too
But the diference in that is that was Yayo’s debut cd it aint like we havent heard the Mobb before people were anticipatin that shit but I guess were disappointed. Mobb deep lost fans by signing wit 30cent

  105. MaddenMaster Says:

I WONT TAKE A LOSS TRUST ME….. I WILL LET YOU PICK MY TEAM!!!

  106. D. Billz Says:

    @G-town G

On everything I love and live for chief, it’s the accurate account of any 9/11 conspiracy. Now, this is coming from a self-proclaimed conspiracy theorist. So I take everything into account and use rational judgement when approaching these issues. But yo, definitely check it out. It’s some shit in there that will mentally fuck you up. And your brother was absolutely right. It’s more to that story as well that will be revealed to you once you watch it.

And to think, I’m typin’ all of this on a government computer. As Shyne would say, “now that’s gangsta!”

  113. Bugsytheboss Says:

All you clowns don’t know shit about the record bizz.First of all Mobb Deep don’t care if the shit sale as long as you get 50 and Interscope they money back with a lil interest.Mobb Deep going to make they money off of shows and buisness ventures. And everybody knows those Porches are a tax right off(it aint like he gave them both Phantoms)for 50

Tony Yayo did more numbers the first week but he had Kanye West to compete with and that shorted out his shelf life but i think the BloodMoney shelf life will be longer since there is no new hip hop album coming out till Busta’s Big Bang. What do you think Busta will do as far as numbers go???Better then T.I.????

  114. iceberg slim Says:

the sad thing is if g unit is flopping what is every other east coast rapper doing and I know everyone saying gunit flopping …..but truth be told nobody moving records in n.y…….come to think about it…this might be the highest debut for a n.y artist since 50…..which was about two years ago…..oh and tony yayo…am I wrong?

  170. eskay Says:

anyway, that Pap sounds like Big L shit is so played out. it’s cute to say but come on that nigga is way more advanced than L ever was. the only reason people ssay they sound the same is because their voices are similar and he uses that same heavy metaphor punchline style.

  173. iceberg slim Says:

    ________

Who AIN’T more advanced now than their rhymes were back then? You got 14 year olds with flows more advanced than niggas back in the mid 90’s or so. That’s not a solid defense.

  182. eskay Says:

Ok, first off I doubt any of you have ever really listened to Pap. Go pick up all his mixtapes from last year and get up to speed and come back and talk to me.

as for Weezy, like I said yesterda, his flow is nice but his lyrics are weak.

Plug, you brought up that www line from Pap? well explain: “Dear Mr. Toilet, I’m the shit”

  183. KonishiwaBitches Says:

i hate to break niggas hearts but paps “nah” do shit this year, his just not good enough to get behind as a “saver” of nyc rap may if he was alil more charismatic he could win over more fans. NYC needs needs and wants somebody to get behind but right now there are no visable candidates. Maybe they should import an mc like atlanta did wit jeezy.

  184. eskay Says:

    >>Who AIN’T more advanced now than their rhymes were back then?

thank you, now tell that to Plug and Milwaukee. and that wasn’t a defense it’s just a reason why you can’t say Pap sounds like L.

  185. iceberg slim Says:

man big l even gave hova trouble on a couuple free styles they were on together…….y u think he signed with the r.o.c right before he died………man big l had sicker word play than eminem..trust ask him

  186. Plug industries AKA the Regulator Says:

@ everybody, What was a better metophore, “I’ll put a dot on your head like w,w,w” or “Dear Mr. Toilet, I’m the shit” ?

  187. eskay Says:

just like Pap would give Hov trouble now.

anyway you niggas is wilin’ Lil Wayne? be serious, Pap would manhandle that niggas whole flow

  189. iceberg slim Says:

  191. Plug industries AKA the Regulator Says:

Name one song that paposse has shined on with a featured guess…… Everyone can shine playing solitiare.

…papoose is crazy with the pen, but his flow and delivery are kinda stiff, lil weezie so loose and relaxed when he spit…maybe he can’t get deep like pap can with the lyrics, but he got mad flow, cadence, and confidence on the mike…

  211. eskay Says:

what you guys fail to realize is I don’t judge a rapper on their ability to put out a hot retail album. most times retails are the worst projects in an artists catalogue imo. if your into radio friendly hooks and commercial beats, then do you. personally I’d take a mixtape 9 times out of 10 over a retail.

heard many moons ago that Ras Kass was going to sign with G-Unit. That notion quickly became one of the many discarded and ignored B.S. rumors I get on a day to day basis. But I look on AHH’s flicks page and what do I see? Ras Kass chilling with Lloyd Banks and G-Unit at the young moneymaker’s birthday party. Now, they have me thinking. Is Ras going to The Unit? That would be an epic signing as it was when Ras first signed back in the day. Wow! Ras, give me another “Nature of the Threat” please! (PS: Look at Sha Money XL in the back – hahahaah!)

but i really feel bad for those girls man, that aint fair, once again religion destroys the hopes of little girls that just wonna have a concert that they worked so damn hard for, people need to relax, its not like these girls are gunna start fucking people the second “sexy love” comes on, fuckers(but personally “get down like that” feat. ghostface is my favourite track on his album…

oh poor mobb sleep, got knocked off by real music, haha what rank did there album come in on, i didnt even bother chacking, cause i knew it would of flopped, niggas thought they’d make #1, not even in there dreams…

i want to be apart of this hip hop movement(the revolution wont be televised, it’ll be learnt in classrooms!!!) this is what hip hop needs, but most importantly we must study the craft and the pioneers, let these people know the begin and move up, if we can do that, then maybe people will understand why there’s so much controversy over whats hip hop and whats not…

  216. eskay Says:

Really? Last I saw he was riding the pine. Besides, that’s only one guy. Just like if Pap blows and is able to put out a decent album (from my knowledge) that would be groundbreaking. It doesn’t happen often. Just like 5% of the Smack DVD thugs will make it.

  229. eskay Says:

    >>Eskay name your top 5 mcs……

^ top 5 ever? or right now? either way there is no such thing as an Eskay’s Top 5. I don’t really get into listing M.C.’s like that cuz I’d never be able to justify leaving some people off and including others.

  230. Bugsytheboss Says:

Lil Wayne has grown alot in the lyrical department and has proven to the record labels that he is a star.

Papoose aint done none of this shit and only rocked a couple mixtapes. Not saying he cant grow but he got alot of dues to pay

  231. Darth Cipher Says:

i think alto of the and1 players, would do justice in the league(no one thought skip could adjust but he did) think of all them and1 dunkers catchy alleys all day and dunking on niggas like shaq cause its something they do on a regular basis…

rass been gettign the proper respect he deserves, niggas been around but you just dont know it… plus alot of emcees make alot more money underground then they would if they switched up… think dj quik

  232. Foekist aka The Cosigner Says:

    Eskay,

I see you ain’t have shit to say when I stated the fact that Papoose ain’t got nuffin on Busta.

  233. Cold Play helped me gradually deprive my insatiable appetite for hip hop (formerly known as Reggaetonslasher) Says:

i figured it out, paps flow is the same on every track, his pitch dosnt change with the beat hes just very bland

  234. Darth Cipher Says:

lil wayne is a product in the rap game, so whatever the type of theme buzz the media industry will have, he will rap about, period…

they trying to make papoose a product, but its not him, hes a lyrical guy and to be putting him on those club type beats, just doesnt work, thats why his new mainstream shit is floppin, they need to keep him how he is and stop fucking with his style, think of dmx… when dude first came out, his shit was bumping cause its straight gutter man… and all his mainstream appeal shit seems fake and soft cause it aint him

  235. Plug industries AKA the Regulator Says:

Reggaedude, somethig like chamillionaire. Since there voice doesnt change it makes you seem like youre listening to the same dam song.

  236. Darth Cipher Says:

busta will always be a top artist for the simple fact that, even when he became a product, his style corisponded with that change… if busta and pap went head to head, i would put my money on busta for the simple fact that busta is not only lyrical but his flow is demonic… when pap is on a nice beat thats underground appeal he sounds right at home, when hes on these other shits i wonna smack him on theside of his head and say wtf you doing son

  237. Bugsytheboss Says:

Paps is trash and thats that.About to be another tax right off for Busta becuzz he can’t move no units with that flow in this day and age.I mean mabe some real hip hop head who likes that old style NY flow but thats it!!!

  238. eskay Says:

    >>Papoose aint done none of this shit and only rocked a couple mixtapes

^now, this question isn’t just directed at Bugsy, but why the fuck do ya’ll care so much about a rappers star quality? I mean it’s important if your considering whether they’re gonna be a GOAT but what the fuck does that have to do with lyrics and their abilities on the mic? you niggas really think you fucking run an A&R department don’t you? talking about whether or not an artist can appeal to the masses or is a star is fuckin homo.

where I come from we buy (well download nowadays) mixtapes and albums, pop ’em in and play em. if the shit is hot it’s hot, we don’t fuckign analyze the guys marketing plan or crossover potential, get a fucking grip.

and for the record, I have never said Pap was gonna “bring NY back” (cuz it never went anywhere to begin with) or that he’s gonna be the next Jay-Z or KONY. I’m well aware that he is a mixtape rapper and that his album will probably flop. but that’s cool with me because this isn’t Eskay’s Artist Development Inc. it’s a motherfucking blog!

  239. eskay Says:

    >>Eskay,

I see you ain’t have shit to say when I stated the fact that Papoose ain’t got nuffin on Busta.

^ I said that I thought I was talking to people who had a clue, but now I see that I’m wrong.

  240. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

It don’t have to be an major label release, just something other than a mixtape. Just about anybody can sound good over the best beats out at the time. Pap does have a couple of concept songs thats ill, but thats over years, he got to do it for a whole album over his on beats.

  241. Foekist aka The Cosigner Says:

    >>think of dmx… when dude first came out, his shit was bumping cause its straight gutter man… and all his mainstream appeal shit seems fake and soft cause it aint him

I sort of agree, but with DMX, he NEVER changed. You ever heard people say that “what will make you laugh can make you cry?” Well the gimmick barking that was part of his M.O. got old. X had mainstream shit that was str8 BUMPING for a while. That “Slippin”, and the love song joint off his first CD was hot, so with X it ain’t have nuttin to do with him being an underground rapper out of his element.

To me Wayne and Pap are different being that they got in the game different ways. To me a better comparison is Lupe, who I feel is better….by a WHOLE lot!

  310. Bugsytheboss Says:

Im Sorry but kids look at rappers as rolemodels eskay and no one is going to look at paps as anybody when he got no ice on and drives a honda civic. And being nice with the flow dont cut it no more.If i want to here lyrics i can go up to Project Blow on Crenshaw and listen to all the backpackers go at it.

  311. eskay Says:

    *continues ignoring NYC*

    >>To me a better comparison is Lupe, who I feel is better….by a WHOLE lot!

^ well, even though I disagree, at least I can respect that opinion. Lupe is a true lyricist, whereas I think Wayne still has a ways to go

  312. eskay Says:

    >>m Sorry but kids look at rappers as rolemodels eskay and no one is going to look at paps as anybody when he got no ice on and drives a honda civic

  313. eskay Says:

and anyway Bugsy, Pap got ice and pushes a Benz so do you respect him now?

  314. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

Even though I like Wayne, I feel like he regressing. He getting better lyrically, but he lacking as far as topics and album structure.

  315. Bugsytheboss Says:

Paps aint nice and you can’t fool me to like him becuzz you heard a hott verse off a mixtape. I rather listen to Lupe(skateboard)fiasco album before a Paps.I wouldn’t buy or bump either one though

  316. NYC Says:

Dis nigga papoose always sound like he’s crying on every fucking track……….i can’t even listen to da nigga first 8 bars…..Worse than freeway…..
    Nigga sound like snaggle puss!……..

  317. iceberg slim Says:

on the real…….I can’t accurarely judge Pap….he is not really in the league yet until that album drop……he has to construct an entire album with topics thatv r entertaining….some riding chill music……some heart felt shit….some gansta shit an something my little sister like before he get any real credit…….until then he just the nigga in the park that’s bad on the basketball court but was always ineligible to play for school

  318. eskay Says:

    >>he has to construct an entire album with topics thatv r entertaining….some riding chill music……some heart felt shit….some gansta shit an something my little sister like

my only thing is if they drop and sell only enough to get number 3…..and these other niggas can’t even get a release date, what does that say…..shit styles p, had I’m black..like what almost two years ago..joe b did t mix tapes……fabo had a couple of mixtapes no album…..shit jada had a ton of free publicity and didn’t capitalize off shit

  321. eskay Says:

^ so what’s your point iceberg? I could care less if no NY rapper ever sold another album, I give a fuck about sales. I’m just loving the Mobb flop because niggas like Bugsy and Madden (and you too obviously if you’re keeping track of New York’s first week #’s) act like sales are the fucking end all be all.

  325. eskay Says:

that’s that bullshit I was talkin about worrying about niggas retails. I hope you work in the industry worrying about this shit.

  326. iceberg slim Says:

unfortune we have to consider sales……that’s how u keep score……no sales no album….ask jadakiss styles p canibus…..some of the best spitters but no album……

  327. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

What we mean eskay you got to give it to the world at one time. 15 mixtapes over 3 years, why not just drop an album. Forget sales, give it to us in a album.

Also, mixtapes alone are not an accurate measure of if your a great artist, likewise for albums. They only tell so much. The greats can do both.

  328. Bugsytheboss Says:

So What are you saying you want to see all New York rappers homeless no ice no benz no record deal but they nice with the flow on that street cornerGTFOH you got alot of learning to do youngster(i hope you just BS)

  329. eskay Says:

    >>that’s how u keep score

no, that’s how YOU keep score.

    >>you got to give it to the world at one time. 15 mixtapes over 3 years, why not just drop an album.

^ so I could wait while an artist goes into the studio, clear samples, gets his recording budget up, markets, promotes, and shoots video’s, irons out label bullshit and finally drops a watered down commercial album….

    OR

I could get a mixtape next week.

I’ll take the mxtape. you niggas are brainwashed thinking you have to pay for something for it to be good. open your eyes, it’s about the music

  330. Sour D. Says:

^ that’s the problem with you kids these days. like I said, give me a broke homeless rapper anyday, preferrably one with an open wound

LMFAO. co sign. actually no. i could care less. money, no money, it makes no difference. all you idiots do is talk about sales and commercial success. ITS NOT ABOUT THAT. its about talent, and the fact is that pap can eat up any artist in the game. and thats a big thing to say. i have other artists i like as much as pap, but lyrically, no one can touch him. i don’t care if he’s driving an 86 corolla that motherfuckers lyrics will be just as hot.

and btw, i’ve had the wrong advance of lupe’s album. i just been listening to his shit this weekend and OMG. this fuckin kid has some talent. i was iffy about whether or not i liked him but that album closed the deal

  331. Bugsytheboss Says:

This nigga Eskay is either playing the dumb role or is really confused and dont realize New York rap is at a all time low ever and the real enemy is not 50 cent its this new so called wave of music from Down South(laffy taffy, leanwitit rockwitit)thats fucking up the interior of hip hop(lots a learning to do)

  332. eskay Says:

Bugsy address me as Mr. Eskay from now on..

of course I don’t mean that, it’s just something I say to assholes like you who work in Wendy’s and think they’re fucking Interscope employees. but honestly, yeah I’d listen to an album by a homeless nigga as long as he’s spitting

  333. Sour D. Says:

and made in milwaukee, his mixtapes are hotter than most peoples albums.

  334. nBmore Says:

Yall put to much power into sales. Some of the best albums never went platinum. Nas, Bootcamp click even Rakim (paid in full). Sales fatten your pocket but can also hurt your hunger for the game.

  335. eskay Says:

Sour D. that album is incredible. I knew it was hot when I first heard it, but I’ve been analyzing it and WOW. I just took it out of my car cd player yesterday for the first time in 2 weeks

  336. Sour D. Says:

yeah es, that shit is classic. i mean i feel like that shit moved me. i love the beats and how real they are. and any muslim thats been in the car with me has become a die hard fan. they all say he knows his shit and isn’t popping hot garbage to seem smart. i hope that there will be something new on the june 27th release but either way, i’ll be supporting good hiphop.

  337. Bugsytheboss Says:

Well its obvious you live in a dreamland where the MIXTAPE GAME(which 50 damn near created and pioneered so all you mc’s can follow)is better then a STUDIO LP.But if you ask me if your truly a star(not just in the hood)you can do both

  338. eskay Says:

yeah man, and did you notice that kid did it without cursing once? I mean he has some sexual references and a couple of ‘niggas’ but other than that nothing. it’s nice having an album I can play when my moms or daughter is in the car.

  339. iceberg slim Says:

unfortune we have to consider sales……that’s how u keep score……no sales no album….ask jadakiss styles p canibus…..some of the best spitters but no album……and a mix tape is usually on other niggas beats…hooks and song structure…..be creative and put out ur on creation……

^lmfao @ 50 creating and pioneering the mixtape game. nigga you believe anything you read don’t you.

and why can’t a mixtape be better than a studio LP? give me one good reason

  341. Sour D. Says:

bugsy, 50 started the mixtape game as far as you are concerned. anyone whose been around knows better. anyone remember DJ S+S, Rated R, the old Clue. you are a young’n to this shit bugsy. and i could care less if pap sells 3 cd’s with me, eskay, and busta to be the only people to buy one. his shit is hot. i don’t care if he appeals to the world or even just america. he apeals to anyone from new york. he makes music for us. and i could give a fuck whether or not he makes music for you.

  342. MaddenMaster Says:

    The adults are back!!

  343. Sour D. Says:

i didn’t even notice the cursing thing es. i was just in a daze listening to it. i never like any concious hiphop. i liked strictly ny dblock pap type shit. but his shit is just on a completely different level.

  344. eskay Says:

    >>and a mix tape is usually on other niggas beats…hooks and song structure…..be creative and put out ur on creation……

do you really listen to mixtapes or do you just say that to sound cool? you’ve never heard a mixtape with all original beats?

and what happens when you buy the studio lp and the beats are trash? I bet that mixtape with all the bangers on it looks pretty good then wouldn’t it?

who gives a shit about where the beats come from?! is the song good is the bottom line. I can’t ever imagine hearing a hot mixtape track from anybody over someone elses beat and saying to myself “well that would’ve been hot if he didn’t steal so and so’s beat” GTFOH! who cares? who fucking over analyzes shit like that? no wonder niggas don’t enjoy anything.

…….and alot of you niggas who were defending Weezy and talkin shit about Pap act like Weezy don’t flow over other niggas beats. shit he stole the whole Shooter concept from Robin Thicke (i know he didn’t steal it, you know what I’m saying)

  345. Sour D. Says:

  346. nBmore Says:

  347. eskay Says:

    aight I’m out I’ll get up with ya’ll in a few…

  348. D. Billz Says:

Why do we waste arguing about who’s nice when the same argument is always reoccuring? The same assholes always attempt to equate financial success with flat-out rhyme skills. I don’t care if Your Favorite Rapper puts out his own line of alphabet soup, turbins, contact lens, or whatever else market he can exploit. NOBODY CARES! Jay-Z could be homeless and I’d still say he was nice. I mean, I wish the brotha much success with all his endeavors outside of recording, but I gives 2 fucks about that other shit. I don’t buy his albums based on his franchises. I buy them based on the quality of his music. You guys really show your age when you start mentioning brands before the music. People like me who grew up with the origins of hip hop respect talent first. Some might label me as a purist, but that doesn’t bother me. Big Daddy Kane got his own talk show on the radio and I think that’s wonderful. He has used hip hop as an outlet to reach people and financially support him and his family in the process. MC’s like Mos Def, Common, and Q-Tip now appear in movies because hip hop has allowed them the opportunity to network with others. But, if those 3 MCs aforementioned never made one movie, I wouldn’t give a damn. Why? BECAUSE IT’S ABOUT THE MUSIC FIRST, STUPID. Nelly got about, literally, 7 lucrative business ventures outside of music. Shoes, drinks, clothing line, and other endorsements. None of those things would make me buy his album because I don’t like his music, nah mean? Yall niggas, AND I DO MEAN NIGGAS, let mainstream (white) America segregate us based on labels: backpack, gangsta, commercial, underground, blah blah blah. What does the label placed upon them by people who know nothing about our culture has to do with the music? How old are you, 12? So you’re saying because someone like Papoose isn’t signed means that he’s not a factor? Are you tellin’ me a barcode on your cd cover is what seperates one entity from the other? Before you state your argument, please realize that I move amongst those who had a lot do with hip hop before the new millenium, so choose your words wisely. And what kind of niggas are yall to actually care about “commercial and marketable appeal”? Biggie was fat, darkskin (which by “commercial” standards isn’t marketable), and had a lazy eye. Technically, there’s nothing “appealing” about that image at all. But does that take away from his lyrical ability? Are you saying that if he wasn’t on a boat with Puffy and driving backwards in Benzs, then he would be just another “backpack” or “underground” rapper? It’s funny how many of you are quick to label someone, yet can’t even define what “backpack” even means.

I gotta take it back to the essence and say yall niggas is 85, for real. Since everybody in here wanna be an A&R, I suggest yall pick up a few books, startin’ with Walter Yetnikoff “Howling At The Moon”. Don’t know who he is? Thought so. But yall know claim yall know the industry right? FUCK OUTTA HERE! LMAO @ a bunch of damn kids.

    Eat your breakfast first…

He had alot on his chest . whoa))))))))

  350. MadeInMilwaukee Says:

I never said sales mattered, I will say you need to drop an album. Either independent or major drop an album. Hell dipset have new album out every other week it seem like.

  351. Front Says:

Hot 97 will continue to own NYC as long as they have those hot Summer Jams. Simple as that.

“This nigga Eskay is either playing the dumb role or is really confused and dont realize New York rap is at a all time low ever and the real enemy is not 50 cent its this new so called wave of music from Down South(laffy taffy, leanwitit rockwitit)thats fucking up the interior of hip hop(lots a learning to do)”

Get use to it, it is the pop version of rap, just like what we consider “Pop” today is just the pop version of Rock and shit. I guess people feel the need to “Get stupid”. There is good music from Down South though. T.I. King is the early favorite along with Fort Minor for rap album of the year.

NYC is at an alltime low, mainly because of Dipset, who the fuck supports these guys? Jenny Jones should not be allowed to talk.

Papoose is one of my top three right now without a debut, so whatever that means. Lupe is #1. He is gonna be huge.

50 cent is trying to do a copy + paste of Jay-Z’s career it seems to me, but Jay-Z didn’t build Rocafella through Bleek or Sigel, he fucking released a new album every 9 months. Get with the program 50. Also, Banks album was not bad, that is all I’m gonna say.

Eskay made a reference about blink. As somebody who appreciates and listens rock and other genres, hip-hop underground music and with the corresponding mixtapes completely fucking blows the rock underground scene out of the water. Rock underground is filled with so much garbage and has a far too strong anti-commericalism attitude to it. Plus, nobody fucking records anything similar to mixtapes, with a few exceptions (LP mainly). I love getting hip-hop mixtapes, hearing and learning what is gonna be poppin off in the next few months or years, and just be all over that shit. Shit, I’m ramblin’ adios.

  352. Front Says:

“…….and alot of you niggas who were defending Weezy and talkin shit about Pap act like Weezy don’t flow over other niggas beats. shit he stole the whole Shooter concept from Robin Thicke (i know he didn’t steal it, you know what I’m saying)”

    oh shit, more newfound respect

  353. D. Billz Says:

nBmore… Lol, yeah I be at work bored readin’ a lot of the B.S. these yellow-bus kids be sayin’. But nukkas know by now that I’m good for postin’ a short novel/essay on here.

Btw, what up chief. B’more in the buildin’.

  354. D. Billz Says:

Yeah, that Shooter joint was on Robin Thicke’s first album which I happen to own. I don’t know why Arista didn’t promote that one. Dude was on a Sprite commercial (with Andre Harrell in the background) and the whole nine. They failed as a label to get him as exposed.

  355. D. Billz Says:

Oh yeah… Phonte = King of the South. Bet it!

  356. nBmore Says:

Why hate on the south. When nyc wanted to be all grimey & laughing at biggie an puffy for dancing an shining. The south picked it up. The reason why the south is getting played in NYC is because nyc is playing down south sh.t in there hoods. Lyrics dont go but so far. Alot of times a MC spits a 1000 bars but once u hear it u dont wanna rewind that cus 800 of it was a bunch of bull. Check games 500 disses that aint worth listening to.

  357. T. Okes Says:

Gotta cosign with you D.Billz…especially this part:

“Yall niggas, AND I DO MEAN NIGGAS, let mainstream (white) America segregate us based on labels: backpack, gangsta, commercial, underground, blah blah blah. What does the label placed upon them by people who know nothing about our culture has to do with the music?”

That’s the whole downfall of the entire music genre. Those old white folks we never get to see are runnin’ damn near this entire industry. These are the muthafuckas that program people into liking songs like “Ms. New Booty” and “Laffy Taffy” instead of songs with more consciousness, or at least songs without excessively dumbed-down content. I mean a club song every now & then on the radio ain’t hurtin’ nobody, but goddamn…they don’t need to be hammered into our fuckin’ heads 24/7, unless you’re actually IN THE CLUB 24/7. & People don’t realize that usually it’s these old white dudes who know all about money & business but nothin’ about hip hop are the ones tellin’ rappers what should & shouldn’t be cut on an album. It’s a goddamn shame.

All these muthafuckas do is program certain songs into all radio stations nationwide then sign rappers that fit. It’s almost too easy for these cats. Sellin’ music to peeps that treat hip hop like a fad rather than the full-blown culture that it is. I’m tellin’ ya…corporate greed is a bitch. So long as people are willing to pay for a CD full of ass-shakin’ songs instead of a CD full of real talk, more & more cats are gonna go the more lucrative route….until they make ‘real talk’ “cool” or some shit…but that’s impossible seein’ the way some of these young cats act.

  358. Front Says:

    T. Okes, why would a label want to make an artist underground?

Also, I’ve yet to see a white Def Jam executive, maybe I’m just not paying attention.

  359. D. Billz Says:

    ^ Ditto @ T. Okes

  360. Reagan didnt end the cold war Says:

Hey peeps, mixtapes are hot and are like the and 1 version of the rap game. We want to see you keep it gangsta, but then we will also like to see how you do in the fundamental game.

Mixtape- def.- straight up raw spitting, no particular topic, just kicking rhymes for the hell of it, survival of the fittest camp, you can bust out the mad handles, by just saying hot gangsterish punchlines, or you can get raw and dunk on niggas headz by releasing some ill shit and set up a couple of niggas straight if you have to( game 240 bars and Jay and Big L 7 minute “freestyle”- Which is probably the greatest hip hop “song” ever. )

Album- def. – this is where you take the street essence and combine it with the emotional essence, intellectual and spiritual essence of your soul. This is your “big break” to show people that you can deliver some fire ass soul food, and that your mac and cheese is on fire, ( and is not cheesy like white people’s) your dressing is on point, Yams is pure candy, and you dont even need no hot sauce on some collard greens. This is where you try to make every nigga hit the couch and fall asleep as soon as you hit em with that soul food crack.
This is also where one combines his fundamentals, conceptualizes, and brings things from his perspective to be laid on wax. The album has rules regulations so its classical in a sense, not to be taken as a joke. This defines who you are and how you want to be seen.

  361. D. Billz Says:

@ Front… Um, Jay-Z and L.A. Reid are not the button pushers. Universal runs that label and whatever they say, goes. It’s a heirarchy like any other company. From the big cheese, all the way to the mailroom guys. Somebody is takin’ orders from another. People laugh at Koch, but I’d rather have more artistic control over my music. Plus you have to understand that the owners of these conglomorates have meetings with the big cheeses of radio. And that my friends is what you call a C-O-N… spiracy.

  362. T. Okes Says:

    Front Says:

    T. Okes, why would a label want to make an artist underground?

Also, I’ve yet to see a white Def Jam executive, maybe I’m just not paying attention.
    __________________________________________

    1. Never said they should. Like I was sayin’, all labels want is dough, which means they have to make the artist mainstream…and if the mainstream ain’t feelin’ that underground vibe, the label has to make the artist broaden his music to appeal to more people. This includes anyone & everyone….so in other words, mostly people that usually listen to other genres. And when you tryin’ to appeal to that many people, you distance yourself from hip hop’s roots, see me? My whole point was that underground shit is never bought ’cause it’s so “condensed” & “exclusive” if that makes any sense. Not everybody will be feelin’ it, especially cats that aren’t really hip hop heads.

    2. I was generalizing about labels, man. We all know Def Jam ain’t even nearly as commercial as some other labels out there. I mainly had Interscope (w/ Iovine) in mind. Another point I was tryin’ to get across was the fact that cats conform to the mainstream to get their paper.

  363. D. Billz Says:

Reagen… Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  364. G Off Says:

Iceberg, I don’t give a fuck about the sales, but just so you will stop reposting the same incorrect shit:

LL Cool J- 116K first week
    Ghostface- 110K first week
    B.I.G.- 439K first week
    Juelz- 141K first week

Get out of here with your bullshit facts and that took me about 15 seconds to find out…

  365. nBmore Says:

Rap was a ghetto game that just blossomed into a business. If you thought it wasnt gonna be raped an abused then you are mistaken. Yall also need to get off that ol-skool was the best bull. Ol-skool was good but the ol-skool did not produce the best lyricist. The south has there share of wack rappers just like NYC did. Do we forget Fat boys,Kid & play, heavyD & etc. I think NYC is looking for excuses to cover up there mistakes. NYC started that payola on the radio dont push that on the south. They grinded there way up. Making NYC come to them.

  366. Reagan didnt end the cold war Says:

b more you talking about old school old school cats like when they first came out, or the 88-96 years?

  367. Front Says:

What is up with all of this anti-commercialism bullshit?

  368. nBmore Says:

Ol-skool to me is the beat street days. To me rap was not ol-skool after the DJ dissappeared.

  369. D. Billz Says:

nBmore… Heavy D was wack? I disagree. That dude had the most lyrical party songs EVER. “Nuthin’ But Love”, “Black Coffee”, “Aint All About The Sex”, “I Need Somebody”, “The Overweight Lover”… dawg, I could go on for days. Please believe that just because Heavy wasn’t hardcore doesn’t mean he wasn’t thoroughly respected. Kid N Play, also numerous lyrical PARTY songs (notice the capitalization). To say those artists aren’t pioneers is blasphemy. And I didn’t say that those artists were better than the ones now. I said that during that time THE MUSIC WAS RESPECTED FIRST. I think I need to put that in bold because I see that yall are still missin’ the point. LYRICS, LYRICS, LYRICS. If isn’t about the lyrics, how can anything else be relevant? Yall niggas should just cop an instrumental cd and just listen to beats then. Maybe drop your own album. M.OP. and OLD Onyx was considered LYRICAL “gangsta” rap. De La, Tribe, and Queen La was considered LYRICAL “conscience” rap. Heavy D, Kid N Play was considered LYRICAL “party” music.

Want me to prove my point even further:

    Southern Rappers I fucks wit’:

    Phonte of Little Brother
    stic.man of Dead Prez
    Stat Quo
    Scarface
    Luda (sometimes)
    Outkast

It has nothing to do with ol’ school, Dirty South, or any other reference. It’s all about LYRICS.

Did I mention that I was more concerned with the LYRICS?

I understand some point . But i disagree on (THE MUSIC WAS RESPECTED FIRST). I would say the culture was more respected. You had DJ’S an dancers. Remeber wearing lambskins an pumas. Now the hype man has replaced the DJ. You mention heavyD’s hit songs but were they lyrical songs or just good subject matter at the time. Lyrics can only go so far for me. I LOOK FOR SUBJECT MATTER. Scarface is not the 1000 bar hardcore spitter. But i love face. My favorite song til this day is (never seen a man cry). Just a strait real story.

  374. T. Okes Says:

Not sayin’ old school was the best, I mean a good MC can come out at anytime. It’s just that back then, the game was more focused mainly on who had lyricism & mic skills. Rather than now, how it’s moreso about who can get the club poppin’ the most. I mean there’s definitely nothin’ wrong with someone puttin’ out an album with nothin’ but ass-shakin’ joints, but that’s what I wanna hear in the club….not in the whip or my room, & not on the radio as much, and that’s just my preferences. If most people are less focused about actually bein’ talented when it comes to flow/lyrics/overall content then they are a decade ago, then wtf can I do? Cats say hip hop is dyin’ (in regards of how it used to be) & I agree…people who disagree, will just say that it’s simply not what it used to be which is not necessarily bad in their eyes.

Also, every region has their bad artists. nBmore, I ain’t knockin’ southern artists, the song titles I used were just brought up ’cause of relevancy.

And about “anti-mainstream bullshit”, Front that’s just how I feel homie. In my opinion, hip hop’s become more focused on hot beats, instead of lyrical content…just so they can immediately get peoples’ attention which leads to possible cash. Not sayin’ there’s anything wrong with hot beats, I just wish they could incorporate both better, together. That’s just my impression though. But no matter how you look at it, cats gotta dumb down to the mainstream audience when it comes to the whole idea behind marketing on such a broad level.

All you niggas trapped in the old days when lyrics were everything and New York was the front leader in rap but that shit is done and over and no Paps or Lupe will save that. Its a new era and people want to hear bass rattling from the trunk not no soft ass beat with some backpack Ny mc trying to kick knowledge. Now if this was 96′ then i would say hell yeah but shit has change. better production for one

  376. nBmore Says:

I hear what you sayin. But we have booty shakin, gangsta & that backpack music these days. Why get into a bizness not to make money. Nas illmatic cd put the spotlight back on lyrics. Now we all hopin MC’s like cannibis & papoose will someday hold control on the radio. Which will never happen. Has anybody heard any of papoose songs they are awful compared to his freestyles. He is a raw MC that needs coaching.

  377. Bugsytheboss Says:

Paps is nowhere near ready for the Rap Game and might not ever be but you ask these clowns he is the next Jay-z. I see Cassidy being more of a factor then this dude(mixtapes is far as he will go)

  378. Reagan didnt end the cold war Says:

I dont think people mind a good party song or even rap groups who are party people, but they have to have some depth in it. Naughty by nature was bringing hot party tracks, cause they were actually spitting.
I rather listen to luke, cause he is true to who he is. He’s not coming out like he a hot rapper he just making songs for the freaks and doesn’t try to be someone he’s not.
What I can’t stand is niggas claiming they so hard and put out joints like laffy taffy doing motor bike dances and gay wrist snaps. Thats what fucks it up.
When the west coast was on that party ish, they were hot with it.

KEY POINT- SUBSTANCE AND STYLE HAS TO GO TOGETHER

WHY CAN’T SOUTHERN PARTY SONGS HAVE A LIL SUBSTANCE?

YOU CAN MAKE A PARTY SONG THAT DOESNT TALK ABOUT BOOTY, CARS, CLOTHES, MONEY AND HOES

    Biggums,

You think Pap could come out with a album right now that would be universally accepted as tight? I think dude nice however, I don’t think he has the complete package. Not to say I want him to be getting crunk for a couple of spins, but I don’t feel like really ready yet. Right now he got lyrics and thats it. He got good material, but it seems like something is missing.

  389. nBmore Says:

I saw lupe video. Couldnt get with it. I never was into skateboarding. And i really dont know to much about him. So i am not checking for him. He reminds me of pharrel.

  390. iceberg slim Says:

this should sum it up………new york….conn and new jersey don’t care about any other music……so why in the hell do they think the other 47 states will care about there music….new york will never be on top if they only got 6 percent of the market

  391. Sour D. Says:

bugsy, your an idiot. all the shit you talk about money i wonder if you really even have any. we’re broke because we listen to mixtapes???? stop making everything about money. an LP doesn’t certify as a rapper. i agree with people who are saying he’s not ready yet. i think someone needs to make him a little more appealing to have a succesful album, but he’s still the best lyrically. you hate on his shit and i bet you never listened to it. i bet you heard monopoly and get right. that shit is no where near the talent this dude has.

  392. Bugsytheboss Says:

And this nigga Paps aint even on nobodys radar.Busta might be fuckin with him but i heard he had to son that nigga real quick on the phone on how to lay the tracks down right so this nigga is in pre-school with alot of growing up to do.

  393. nBmore Says:

Pap has potential to put out a tight album.
    check for:
    1). charades
    2) the Song saying he pac, biggie, pun malcom x
    3) menance 2 society 2
pap has potential to put out a decent album. But can he do it is the question.

  394. Sour D. Says:

nBmore, i would definitly check out lupe. i like strictly NY hiphop. i really don’t fuck with anything but that gritty shit. lupe is more than a skateboarder who raps. he’s spittin real knowledge and is artistically talented. i would check parts 2 and 3 of the farenhiet 1/15 mixtape series. and if you could find his album online, listen to it. it will change everything you think about him.

  395. nBmore Says:

If lupe is so tight like i been hearing why didnt he showcase this for his 1st single. I am turned off just off the song kick push. He needs to get me & others back. I will not come lookin for his music he needs to sniff me out.

  396. Sour D. Says:

i’m sure he’ll be kicking down your door trying to give you his next single nBmore. kick push wasn’t a bad song. i don’t hate it. i don’t love it. the reason i searched to find good shit from him is because people whose opinions i respect were telling me to check him. and not just from this site. i put in the effort and am really happy i found something new to listen to amongst all the bullshit out. his shit is fire and is completely different from whats out now.

  397. nBmore Says:

Allhiphop.com has a picture of Mike jones house. I didnt know he was seeing money like that. All off 1 album. Everybody in Nyc gona teer up when they see there money is down south well spent. LOL

Mike Jones did a couple hundred thousand independent, plus mixtapes and show money. Plus, swishahouse got a fanbaseso he was plugged in.

them dudes on swishahouse got all the money underground moving there own units, doing there own grind… so im sure the house was bought off industry money lol… since his album wasnt that fly man… i dont know a single person who actually bought his album… and im not joking

  404. Darth Cipher Says:

yeah i heard it, i got it on my computer… its not a hip hop album, its more indie pop style music which is famous in the UK, but if you like to listen to things other then hip hop, its something to look into… personally i liked it cause its so different, and it showed that dangermouse can make beats on an international scale and not just hip hop scale… if that answers your question

  405. iceberg slim Says:

thanks man ….ill check it out…..is it similar to coldplays shit..and is it in stores here

  406. Darth Cipher Says:

its not like coldplay, cause its not on that rock level, just alot more electronics then hip hop heads would be used to, but the lyrics are pretty good… go to youtube and check out the video “crazy” by them

Hey Eskay, POST THAT MOOK LINK AGAIN I WANT TO HEAR IT. THANKS

  410. Sour D. Says:

Couldn’t understand how raw the Hologram is
The mantis who use the flame rod
‘Cause y’all couldn’t physically bruise the name God

  439. Da Supa Emcee a.k.a DA Villan Says:

yeah now thats lyricsim fo a nigga mind right there. niggas got to evolve to understand

  440. Da News Man Says:

Jedi Mind Tricks mos def lyrical.

Hey yo I got a fetish, to see flesh rip
With my checks bitch, breakin’ the bone where your chest is
I dare a nigga to try and battle
I’ll put the sweat in your palms when you swallow ????
Eat MC’s like Chewbaca was eating cattle
Defeat disease rip Allah, frequently battle
Make the hardest man fall back and start to squeal

  441. Da Supa Emcee a.k.a DA Villan Says:

DAMN dats da shit .i play dat shit fo niggas down here in memphis an they ass be dazed and confused

  442. Da News Man Says:

I’m more into the real lyrical rappers myself. I can listen to other rappers that aren’t lyrical, but after awhile you gotta put those guys who have complex metaphores and shit on.

Megatraum is a Martian feeding off weed and cash
I dash for my shipment of Roswell crash
You smash when you dash with the clashing ox
Saw you in half without a fucking magical box
Wet pussy always seems to splash my cock
I’m dead they just didn’t leave the casket locked
Pass my block I let shots drill in your spleen
We’re ill marines with hand held killing machines
Steal dreams with the armored steel
    Guard your grill
Nigga, I was brought up by the kids in Smallville
Following Allah’s will, horror in the skill
    Caught up in the real
Don’t give me cause to kill
Nocturnal, I stroll where the darkness goes
If I had to follow the moon across the globe
With the staff and white robe
    I still hold metal
Disciples who walk on glass and rose petals

    Some more Jedi Mind Tricks.

  443. Da Supa Emcee a.k.a DA Villan Says:

megatraum is a martian feeding off weed an cash/i dash for my shipment of rosewell crash………..but i turn on tha radio an here laffy taffy. its enough to make a sane man go mad

  444. Da News Man Says:

LOL Laffy Taffy, i like some southern rap, but not that garbage. I’ll bump Project Pat, Scarface, The Product, UGK, S.U.C and others who got real skills. I’ll listen to Jeezy from time to time, but i’d rather hear Killer Mike anytime.

  445. Da News Man Says:

Can’t forget about the Geto Boyz and Z-Ro they got some skills too.

  446. Da Supa Emcee a.k.a DA Villan Says:

yeah i jus started listening to z-ro.he reminds me of a old school southern rapper

  447. Da News Man Says:

Yeah Z-Ro is good, i like how he can switch up his style on songs. He can rap fast, rap at a normal rappers pace, or he can do some tight chorus shit like on Bun B’s Get Throwed off of Trill.

  448. Da Supa Emcee a.k.a DA Villan Says:

yo i jus got dis 2-way from da jump off next door.u know how dat go 1

  449. Des Says:

this is a funny ass thread..
